Chapter 2 - Martial Hall: Forbidden

Eliza's request for assistance in dealing with the now occupied Martial hall had been granted but it was for naught, any who came close would be blasted by a noxious mist causing them to fall into unconsciousness. This had caused great concern as without the ability to study scrolls and scriptures within it caused the production of new Guardians to slow almost to a halt as they now had to be trained personally but this also proved to be a blessing in disguise as those proteges were able to gain battle experience by following their mentors.

Currently it had been a few months since the boy had taken residence in the Martial hall teeming with toxins, many would wonder how it was that child managed to live so long without food but soon their answer came as one night a swarm of insects and vermin alike came in droves carrying assortments of edibles. An ability many of them could connect to only one other, Pestilence. It lead to an investigation that had turned up results that had caused them a great bit of concern.

The autopsy from Pestilence had revealed she was weakened from childbirth but it was odd as no child was ever found but the father was obvious to any as they were quite open about their affair. Samael, a Cursed with ability of Absolute poison. With the facts laid straight many of the Guardians had begun to avoid the former Martial Hall except for one, Yuki stared at the Hall hatefully.

From her attire it could be seen she had indeed taken a drop in rank and the worn marks on her clothing showed her fall from grace however by her side was a small girl around the age of ten.

"Mother, why do we come here" asked the girl while Yuki continued to stare into doorway emitting noxious fumes.

"There is a beast in there, I come here in case it ever shows itself" started Yuki but a sudden burst of poison shot to her position forcing her to jump back with the girl in hand.

"See, it knows me as well." stated Yuki glaring at the doorway before leaving with the girl in tow.

Inside the Martial hall that boy read through the scriptures and attempted to practice Techniques in the scrolls as he learned to control his given abilities from the instructions of Predecessors long forgotten. He trained relentlessly, his thirst for strength not originating from vengeance but a will to survive and escape this Holy Land of Guardians.

Seasons came and went and the legend of the Monster inside the Martial hall continued to grow until members of the younger generation had begun to challenge the obstacle inside allowing for battle experience to be gained by the boy inside. Every challenger was eventually forced out sometimes being thrown or merely running with a smile of success but the fumes persisted until one day the fumes just stopped.

For six long years the Mist had drifted from the entrance of the Martial Hall until finally it just ceased to be one day causing confusion as many had forgotten about the young boy who had ran into it's depths for protection.

People began to gather as higher ups arrived on the scene to check the situation but what was found was a youth with wild light purple hair holding a bladed Gunbei. He sat at the entrance with his eyes closed wearing a purple Hakama, it was an odd sight as no one could recognize this person. Until an old man with an extreme edge to his aura stepped forward.

"You are the Child of Pestilence" asked the Old man

"I do not know that name" answered the youth opening his eyes to look at this person.

"I see, I am not surprised to hear this answer. Tell me, what have you been doing all this time inside this Martial Hall" asked the Old man

"Learning" answered the youth

"Learning? What is it have you been learning" asked the Old man

"Do not treat me as a fool." stated the youth his face remaining calm.

"Indeed.... You have been learning child. I fear that what you have learned from those dusty old scrolls may be outdated though" responded the Old man calmly.

It was an odd sight for these people, the head of their Holy Land was sitting and talking casually with someone so young as if they were equals. It was something unheard of.

"I see you have chosen a war fan as your tool, quite the appropriate choice considering your gifts" stated the Old man as he felt a bit of pleasure from talking to this youth who was quite formal.

"It is an unpopular choice as the years have progressed, however popularity does not equate to effectiveness" answered the youth

Their conversation continued as such for some time until the Old man decided to ask a question as Yuki and her child happened upon the scene.

"Would you be interested in attending the Guardian Academy, consider this a Formal invitation by myself." asked the Old man.

"I am uncertain if this would be appropriate sir, I am considered Cursed by those old texts and those gathered" answered the youth calmly.

"As I have said, those texts are quite outdated. As for those gathered, they have no say in the decisions of their Head" responded the Old man

"If this is the case then I will graciously accept this offer. May I ask a question of my own in return" asked the youth causing the Old man to chuckle.

"You have already asked but I will allow another question" answered the Old man truly enjoying this sort of talk.

"You seem to know my heritage more than I, would you perhaps be willing to tell me of my parentage" asked the youth causing the Old man to smile at the honesty of the question.

"I suppose it is only natural for one to wonder of their origins, come with me we shall speak somewhere that will allow us more comfort" stated the Old man rising to his feet.

The youth bowed lightly causing an interested gaze from the Old man as the youth stood.

"You carry yourself as a head, I can take it that it is because of the texts you have read inside for these few years" commented the Old man.

"Is it inappropriate, I am the head of my own family though it is only myself" asked the youth causing the Old man to chuckle again.

"No, I find it quite refreshing. Not many your age would carry themselves with such confidence, truly befitting of a head. Tell me, what is it I should call you" asked the Old man

"Sir I apologize but this one does not possess a name" answered the youth

"Interesting, to have grown so long without a way to call oneself. It must be difficult" commented the Old man

"How about Plague" came the spiteful call from Yuki turning the attention to her.

The youth seeing that woman found his gaze taking an edge which didn't go unnoticed by the Old man.

"Yuki, I would think after your earlier disgrace you would find it hard to speak in public." stated the Old man showing his disapproval.

"Head, I do not think Yuki is misguided in her words. This boy is the child of those two blights on humanity" came Eliza's voice as she stood next to Yuki, it appeared their friendship had returned to normal after all this time.

Now it was time for the youth take a dangerous countenance as he stepped forward.

"A true blight on humanity stands before me now, a grown woman who had dared to attempt slaying a child." stated the youth causing the Old man to chuckle at the truth in the words spoken.

"Should then, you be slain?" asked the youth causing Eliza to shrink back as if struck as there was no refuting his claims.

"That is different you had poisoned me at that time, you are Cursed. One of the being's that we as Guardians have sworn to kill where we find them" countered Eliza but the youth merely shook his head.

"I cannot deny these allegations against me but should the actions of a child be judged with a death sentence, did I not correct my wrong doing and thus you stand before me today to hurl venomous words. However let me ask you, what is the difference between you and I" asked the Youth as the Old man felt a smile working its way onto his lips.

"The difference is obvious you are Cursed" stated Eliza as if it was obvious.

"What makes me cursed" asked the Youth causing Eliza to smirk.

"Your powers" started Eliza but she was cut off before she could continue.

"Then with your reasoning would you all not be Cursed as well? I have read the scriptures and texts within this hall for some time, I have read the differences between the Cursed and Guardians. Do you want me to explain to you the difference" asked the Youth calmly causing his words to spite Eliza even further.

There was silence as Eliza was still reeling from her words being turned on her and the rest of the Guardians.

"I am interested in knowing the difference" spoke the Old man as he stepped forward with a smile at the happenings so far.

"It is the intent behind their use, a Guardian could easily use his powers and techniques to harm another and you would call him Cursed as if he was not one of you. Just as easily a Cursed could use their powers to help others and you would claim them as a Guardian. You are a foolish woman who should never peek into the matters of a conversation between men" started the youth until the Old man coughed ending the speech as it appeared those texts were truly outdated if the boy had learned such beliefs about men and women.

"I think that is enough, come let us speak elsewhere" stated the Old man leading the youth away before he ended up putting his foot in his mouth.

Meanwhile Eliza was left fuming as was Yuki and a few other Female Guardians and trainees around while some of the men rooted for the youth for putting the cocky woman in her place though they wished he had spoken differently.

Thus the youth and the old man talked as they walked about random things and the youths heritage or at least what was known by the Guardians.
