Chapter 60 - 60. New Film

After bidding farewell to Marion Cotillard, Rowan decided to call his investment manager Elizabeth first and then enjoy the rest of the day as he won't have time to call her tonight.

"Rowan I was waiting for you to call me, Sarah told me that she successfully sold the rights of your books and I have trying to find various ventures for you to invest in but it will take sometime if you want me to find something that get fast returns." Elizabeth stated

"Don't worry Elizabeth I already have something for it, I need you to buy large amount of Thai Baht in mid-may around 60 million dollars worth."

"What? Rowan are you crazy do you know what's the situation with the Thai Baht is nad you want to buy $60 million worth of it, why do you want to waste your money like this!" Elizabeth couldn't believe herself that a genius like Rowan would make a stupid decision like this.

"I know exactly what is going on with Thai Baht Elizabeth that's why I am asking you to buy it next week, It's not a mistake not am I being stupid it's a calculated subject and let me remind you that in calculation I am never wrong so let me be clear buy $60 million worth of Thai Baht next week or I will find someone else to do it." Rowan said and disconnected the phone, he was in no mood to listen to her and ruin his mood.

After talking with Elizabeth, Rowan left the hotel with his two bodyguards.

The other two bodyguards were given the day off by Rowan

Two bodyguards come in shifts.

Rowan also covered the travel expenses for the two and their families.

Cannes is a good tourist destination and its safety is relatively guaranteed. Rowan asked two bodyguards to accompany there family on a trip to relax.

There are less than ten people, so it won't cost much including food and accommodation and now he cared even less.

A small amount of money can significantly improve employee happiness.

After all, it's to protect himself, so Rowan will still consider the cost of buying people's hearts with a small amount of money.

The bodyguard and his family had a great time shopping, but Rowan hadn't taken two steps outside when he was called over by a phone call from Director Girard Pires who asked him to come to a restaurant and meet some of his friends, Rowan was of course happy to meet them and agreed to get to the restaurant.

After entering the restaurant he saw Girard Pires sitting with some of the famous directors in the European film industry.

Rowan entered the market as an investor, and with the halo of a "genius mathematician and Biologist" around him, because of that they were quite enthusiastic about him.

In the food chain of status, mathematicians have always been above artists - at least above art film directors.

After a few drinks, Girard Pires drunkenly shouted "Roberto, you can ask Rowan to play the leading role in your new movie."

Rowan looked over and the information matched his mind, Roberto Benigni, a famous Italian comedian and director, nicknamed the 'Italian Chaplin'.

Roberto Benigni smiled and shook his head "I like this script very much. I plan to direct and act in it myself."

He said this while smiling at Rowan apologetically.

Rowan said he didn't care, but he was a little curious in his heart.

He more or less understood what Girard Pires meant, and was obviously optimistic about Roberto Benigni's new project.

Rowan thanked his old partner for the favor, but was not overly enthusiastic.

He certainly doesn't look down on European films, but he doesn't take them too seriously either.

After all, Spielberg has a big production coming up next month, so there is no shortage of movies to watch.

If there is a chance, it's fine. If there is no chance, forget it...

Rowan remained calm.

This made the surrounding directors look at him with higher regard, thinking that he was worthy of being a genius, with a calm personality and a perfect temperament.

But Girard Pires didn't give up."He can act much better than you!"

"Your film is about Jews in concentration camps. You're a comedian, not a Jew. Be careful that those guys won't like your identity. Rowan's father is part Jewish, so he's perfect for the role!"

"By the way, aren't you still in need of investment? If you bring out your perfect script, Rowan will definitely be willing to invest in you."

After Girardot Pires said this, Roberto Benigni became a little hesitant.

The subject matter is serious and nothing special.

Roberto Benigni has his own philosophy. He believes that laughter and crying come from the same point in the soul, and that serious themes and comedic effects can be done well at the same time.

But ethnicity is a key issue.

Because he was a Gentile, a comedian and not a Jew, his other friends, except Girard Pires, also advised him not to make this movie, and even if he did, he should not play the Jewish leading role himself.

Roberto Benigni insisted on pushing forward, but because of this the process of attracting investment was not smooth.

Objectively existing problems will not disappear just because of subjective insistence.

Should I insist on directing and acting myself but not know when to start filming, or should I hire a male lead who is suitable to join the crew with funds and start filming immediately... That's the problem for Roberto right now.

A friend who knew him well had already seen the clues and whispered in his ear "Roberto, when you think about this problem, it means you have made a choice."

Roberto Benigni was silent for a while and then looked at Rowan "Mr. Rowan, can you try a scene?"

Rowan nodded "No problem."

Roberto Benigni pulled the script out of his bag.

Rowan took it and looked through it.

Unlike Luc Besson's neat and standard Hollywood master-level scripts, the Italian director's scripts are much more casual and the storyboards are more self-conscious.

But Mr. Peters teaching was not in vain, and all that literature he read was not in vain.

Rowan scored full marks in reading comprehension and understood the story quickly.

The script tells the story of a humorous and optimistic Jewish waiter and his son who were sent to a concentration camp. The father used his imagination and humor to lie that they were in a game. In the end, the father kept his son's childlike innocence intact, but he himself died tragically.

A story that is both comic and tragic, very Chaplin-like.

Rowan closed the script and understood why Girard Pires cared so much.

Because this is a good script and a good project that is both commercial and profound.

Although there will not be high-value loot, the background itself is worth the copy. Moreover it feels like he has seen this movie in previous life but can't name it yet but even this vague memory is enough for him to be sure of it.

Can't miss it!

Rowan handed the script back to Roberto Benigni "Give me some time."

Roberto Benigni held the script with a puzzled look on his face "Script?"

Rowan shook his head and started "I have memorized it completely."

Roberto Benigni "???"

While he was stunned, Rowan closed his eyes.

The lights in the restaurant went out one by one.

In the darkness, the air turned icy cold.

The pungent smell of disinfectant.

Rowan seemed to have traveled through time to a cold place decades ago.

In the darkness, the corpses in the camp were slowly wriggling, wailing in pain as their humanity was drained away.

Rowan watched quietly.

Suddenly, he turned his head and looked in one direction.

There was a father and son who had just arrived.

The father's white lie and the son's vision of a beautiful life.

In such a cruel environment, the optimism and warmth are so conspicuous.

Rowan felt the warmth, felt the emotion, watched the joys and sorrows of this cold land, watched this scene of black com edy.

After an unknown amount of time, Rowan opened his eyes and looked at Roberto Benigni "I'm ready."

Roberto Benigni suddenly felt that something was different about him.

He inexplicably felt more expectant and opened the script to select a scene.

This is the scene where the protagonist Guido enters that place and tries every m eans to find an opportunity to contact his wife in the women's prison, while at the same time protecting and taking care of his young son.

In order to protect his son, he coaxed his son into believing that this was a game and that those who followed the rules would eventually get a real tank to take home.

Optimistic yet depressing.

This conflicting emotion made the performance extremely difficult.

But Rowan pulled it off perfectly.

There was no extreme expression, just a quiet gaze, and those black eyes expressed all the emotions.

Everyone present realized at this moment: he was the father.

Roberto Benigni's emotions were so in tense that he wanted to shout.

This is the Guido in his mind!

He felt like he had found the actor he wanted most, and without further hesitatio n, he said, "Rowan, I want you to play my leading role!"

Rowan instantly returned to normal and smiled elegantly "My pleasure. Does it have a name?"

Roberto Benigni: "Life is Beautiful."
