"Oh, man. If I weren't just a human, I would have done more. " Nadine said and yawn. It was ten o'clock in the evening and she just finished one chapter. That's the result of being too excited to write. The idea rush like a wildfire. She wrote nonstop.
Nadine's plot is simple. It was all about a girl who fell in love with her best friend. And through all that, Nadine's inspiration to her hero is Grey. And of course, she is the heroine! The idea made her smile. It made her heart beats like crazy. She felt that even in that story she could stay with Grey.
Nadine secretly sighed as she remembered the situation. That's right. Their story only ends in a book. She can't be with Grey. She has to avoid him, right? Also, she's just a ghost. She's only borrowing Ereen's body. When she finishes her mission, she will leave as well. Sure enough, by that moment Ereen's soul wanted to wake up. Nadine will be evicted by that body
"You are lucky. Ereen lives alone. You don't need to deal with other people." Lily commented. She bid goodbye afterward and asked permission to look around the apartment. The unit has two rooms. The first room use by Ereen as her room and she made the other room as her storage.
Nadine knows nothing about Ereen's personal life. There is also no indication that she still has parents. There is no family picture in the house. Her unit seemed dull. The designs were outdated. There are no plants or anything. Her furniture aren't appealing too. She only has a few appliances. But fortunately, she has a laptop. Ereen didn't put any password so she could use it. It seems she was using it when she brought some work at home. Some of the company's files are saved there.
Nadine nodded. "Right. I'm sleepy. I will take a rest."
"Okay. I will look after you." Lily said.
Nadine laugh. If only the situation was different, she would have been terrified but eventually she was happy. She has a guardian and she appreciated that.
Nadine fell asleep and she didn't expect that she will dream of Ereen…
"Ereen!" Exclaimed Nadine. She saw her sitting quietly under the tree. The surroundings are clear. Green pastures everywhere. However, despite the clear surroundings, Ereen's eyes were filled with tears and sadness. Nadine saw it when she looked back at her.
"You!" Ereen exclaimed and stood up when she recovered from shock. She looked at her from head to toe with eyes wide open and covered her mouth. "Y-You are the ghost I saw in the office! You have a kid, right? Where is she? "she said and looked around, trying to look for Lily.
"She's not here," Nadine said and rub her head. She thought of the easiest and nice way to explain to her everything until she decided to just be true. She looked at Ereen seriously. "I'll introduce myself first. I'm Nadine. You have to know everything... " she said and confessed. Ereen remained silent until Nadine finished.
"E-Ereen, I'm sorry for what I did. But believe me. I tried to leave but I couldn't. W-What do we do? "Nadine asked worriedly.
Ereen leaned heavily on the trunk of the tree and looked sadly away. "It's not your fault. This is my fault."
Nadine's eyebrows furrowed. She wondered what Ereen had said. "How can you say it was your fault?"
"It's my gift to see a ghost. I inherited it from my grandmother who was a psychic. My grandmother wanted to polish my ability. She wants me to help lost souls in fulfilling their mission. My parents didn't like it so they took me away from her. But because of my ability, I often see ghosts. I can also talk to some and I don't realize that at first. It had a big impact on me because for everyone else, I'm not normal…." Ereen said.
"Ereen…" Nadine murmured. She pitied her.
"Because of my ability, they think I'm crazy. They see me talking alone. Sometimes, I thought I was talking to a real person and in the end, I will found out that it was a ghost. So they gave me back to grandma. They were scared to be with me. My grandmother explained that psychic like us can be possessed as long as we allowed them to or as long as we didn't control and refuse. That's the reason why you were able to get into my body effortlessly. I don't refuse and didn't control." she explains.
"But it is not your fault to have this ability ..." Nadine commented. Her heart broke for Ereen.
Ereen smiled sadly. "But others don't see it. For them, I am weird. Freak. "
"It's annoying. People are judgmental. " Nadine was pissed off.
"You're right. It's sad that the only person who understands me died. My grandmother had a heart attack. She didn't had the chance to teach me how to use my ability properly. After burial, I was sent to Manila to go to college. I stayed here until I graduated. I found a job here. My parents and siblings don't visit me often because they are afraid of my ability. I have been alone for a long time. I don't make friends because I don't want anyone to know about my ability. I do not want to be feared anymore…" Ereen was crying while telling her sad story.
"So you will just let your co-workers treat you that way so that your ability will not be exposed," Nadine concluded.
Ereen bowed her head and wept. Nadine's eyes watered too and hold her shoulder. She could feel her pain. She sympathized with her. She could not help it but resent her family who had turned their back on her. What kind of family are they? Instead of helping and supporting, they drove her away!
"It's exhausting, Nadine. I-I don't feel like getting out of here. Every day, every time I wake up in the morning, I feel alone. Everywhere I go, that's how I feel… " she said. Ereen cracked that moment. She was emotionally drained.
Nadine shook her head. "No. You need to get out. It's okay to take a little rest because you're tired. Giving up is not okay. Hang on, Ereen. Don't give up." she advised.
Ereen looked at Nadine. She smiled. "Let's make a deal. Get some rest here and I'll do my mission. When I finish that, you should be okay." Nadine asked and raised a pinky finger so they could have a pinky swear.
"Nadine…" Ereen murmured. Tears still falling from her eyes.
"Now I understand why I can't get out of your body. You gave everything up. You are dead inside; I had the chance to possess you. Once your soul wakes up, I can be evicted. One body can't have two active souls. So please, Ereen. I'll be trapped in your body if you stay here. I can't cross the other world. You will be trapped here in the world you created inside your mind," explains Nadine.
Ereen paused until she embraced her. She was crying on Nadine's chest. She just let her be. She sighed until Ereen stopped crying.
"I'm sorry." Ereen murmured.
Nadine smiles sympathetically. "I understand. Hope you understand my point too. "
Ereen nodded. "You're right. I have to wake up. We have an agreement now." She said. Determination was written in her eyes.
Nadine smiled and gave her a big hug. "Thank you," she said. She took a deep breath. Somehow Nadine was happy. She thinks she helps Ereen get through it all.
And that was the time she finally woke up from the dream…
