Chapter 66 - Parting

Gordan sighed and sat down on the ground, taking off his cloack so that he could examine his arms. His finger tips had turned completely black and his arms were a slight grey color with red patterns like tattoos spread up his arms.

Orion conjured some flames and let them float motionless in the air as a source of light. He sat down across from Gordan and let his appearance change back as he watched Gordan inspecting his arms with curiosity. The color almost covered up the scars which covered his arms but they were still visible if one looked closely.

"When I turned twelve the king of my kingdom took interest in me and forced my into a contract which put me under the direct control of the king and all of his descendants. Since I was a child I really had no choice in the matter and my family was more than happy to get rid of me while also gaining favor from the newly appointed king."

He took a deep breath and then slowly exhaled, Orion watched him, not saying anything so that he could explain things at his own pace. Form the tone of his voice Orion could tell that it wasn't somthing that he enjoyed thinking about at all, but he still had a feeling that it was somthing that Gordan should talk about so he could get it off of his mind. The way that Gordan was acting at the moment was reminiscent of his own king when he would think about the past which wasn't that often.

"I worked under the previous king helping him re build an empire, somthing that was succeeded in his lifetime. But his son wasn't quite the same as his father, he was tired of being compared to his father and didn't really care about anything in general. In fact one could say that he was one of the rebellions key supporters, so when the rebellion struck he made no moves to stop it and did not allow me to either. So the country fell to ruin and the king was set to be executed, but then he was spirited away by some strange individual."

He continued to study the designs on his arms without looking up at Orion, who was listening silently.

"So what was the deal with the cottage? Was that your home or somthing?"

Gordan nodded his head and sighed.

"All of that research is lost now, how sad..."

His voice trailed off and Orion shook his head in a sympathetic gesture. Knowledge being destroyed was a hard sight to see even if it was unrelated to oneself.

"So what do you plan to do now that the contract has been broken?"

Gordan looked up for the first time and smiled.

"I plan on going somewhere safe for a change. And who knows I might find a reason to continue living while I'm at it. I've been under that stupid thing for so long that it's hard to think of what to do without it."

Orion patted him on the back and then looked off into the darkness.

"You could always join us you know? I'm worried that you won't take proper care of yourself if you don't have someone watching you like a hawk."

Gordan tilted his head to the side slightly with a look of confusion.

"You know I'm not that irresponsible right? I do know how to take care of myself."

Orion looked at him with an expression full of doubt.

"You do remember that the first time we met you walked through a hall of crazy heat and then preformed a spell that was tearing your arm apart in order to help me a person that you didn't even know. If you were left to yourself who knows what kind of trouble you might get into. Have a bit more self preservation."

Gordan smiled and laughed alittle, before leaning back to look up at the stars.

"Sorry, it's a bad habit of mine, my body can take a lot so I sometimes forget that it has a limit."

Orion let out a sigh and stood up holding out his hand to Gordan.

"Well at least I offered, but you have places to be don't you? Anyway just try to be careful, okay?"

Gordan accepted his hand and Orion pulled him to his feet with ease.

"I'll try my best but we will see how it goes. Anyway I guess we had better be heading out, it's getting pretty late."

Orion looked up to the sky, the stars were shining brightly and the air was crisp and inviting. He could still feel the presence of the Winter March as it had passed through the area. with a snap of his fingers his steed appeared in front of him. He had been waiting one hundred years for this moment to arrive, the moment when he would be able to return to his king. He looked back to Gordan who was holding out his hand to him while smiling.

"Travel safely, I hope you can find your king soon. It has been a pleasure to know you, I hope I see you again in the future."

Orion accepted the handshake and smiled at him happily, before mounting his horse. He had a nagging feeling in the back of his head but he also felt the urge to return to the Winter March So he waved to Gordan one more time and turned back to searching for his king.

Gordan stood there smiling sadly while watching the figure grow smaller and smaller until Orion faded completely into the distance. He looked up at the stars and felt a wave of sorrow wash over him. He was alone again, just like always, no matter who he met, they always had a place that they needed to return to eventually. But now he didn't even have a home, he was completely alone in the world. He suddenly dropped to the ground and sat there with his legs crossed looking down at his blackened fingers which now resembled claws.

He was tired, how long had he been here for? Did somthing like that matter. He couldn't help but question why it was that he was even here at the moment. He dropped his head in his hands and let out a long sigh. He had tried to start over and now here he was again with absolutely nothing. He was at square one again, but maybe this time things would be different. He looked up at the screen which had suddenly appeared in front of his eyes and flinched alittle bit as his eyes adjusted to the different lighting. He stared at the item which was glowing on the screen and he slowly reached out and touched the air in front of it. A small box appeared in front of the screen asking if he wanted to use the item at the moment. He clicked the yes, and suddenly there was a bright flash of lights and then blackness.

Orion heard the noice even from this distance away and was able to feel the traces of a massive teleportation spell which seemed to have alittle somthing mixed into it. He sighed and continued to ride. He hoped that Gordan would be alright, and he wished him good luck in his new adventure, what ever that might be.

As soon as the spell was activated Gordan was hit by the light and the teleportation process began to activate, but he noticed that his body was also changing slightly, which was rather uncomfortable.

[Warning: Due to the host's person, physical changes* must be made in order to ensure the host's safety in the new location.

*Changes might cause mild to severe pain to the host so it is recommended that the host be prepared. Changes will be made based on the host's most dominant thoughts.]

Gordan smacked his face and instantly cleared his head of all images. He had no idea where the spell was planning on taking him but he had a bad feeling about the waring that he had just received. He waited for a few moments to see what would happen but without any thoughts in his head.

[Warning: Due to the lack of information the system will pick the changes randomly]

Gordan felt the pain intensify as his body began to change. he felt like he was being pulled apart and sloppily stitched back together into something that he had never been before. He decided to ignore the pain and instead focase on the what was happening around him. He guessed that he was being taken to a location which was quite the distance from where he had started since the spell was taking so long. He seemed to be hovering in darkness of a sort, and it didn't look like he would be getting out any time so he decided to do some reading while he waited for the pain and spell to stop. He opened up the screen and began reading through the patch notes.

At some point he finished reading the last of the patch notes and decided to take a nap since he was still a bit depressed and in quite a bit of pain. As he felt himself being dragged back into the world of his mind he wondered how the others would fair now that they were all on their ways.

He opened his eyes back in his own mind once more next to the odd twisted tree and ocean of blood. The figure was standing next to the edge of the water and turned around as soon as it heard him entering his brain.

"Hey, look at it this way, you still have me."

Gordan raised an eyebrow and frowned slightly. Which made the figure shift uncomfortably.

"Hey you know how it is... Don't take what I did personally okay? I was just, the hero needed a wake up call, and by bringing him here he got that. You know that even if someone needs to be taught a lesson, that doesn't mean you have to almost kill them to do it."

Gordan just stared at him with an expression of slight annoyance.

"You know he would have done worse if he had been in the same situation, so don't try to deny it. He was a spoiled hero who had no business in protecting people."

The figure shrugged its shoulders and sighed.

"Well what ever the case may be, what's done is done. On another note, are you doing okay?"

Gordan looked at him with an almost sarcastic way.

"Are you talking physically or mentally? Becouse physically I'm being ripped apart at the moment, and mentally I feel like drowning myself in food, so I guess the answer is the same either way. I feel terrible."

The figure sat down across from him and looked at him carefully.

"Well all you have to do is start over right? That shouldn't be to hard for you as long as you try to forget about the others. I could help you with that if you want?"

Gordan shook his head and then felt a strange tingling in his skin, the spell was coming to a close.

"I would prefer not to forget anything at all, see you later."

The figure waved and watched as Gordan faded from veiw.

"Man I can't tell if he is still mad or what, and that is really troubling. He should be okay soon though. All he needs is a change of pace. Maybe him participating in this game will be good for him."
