"I organised this dinner so the promise that had been in exist for many years could finally be fulfilled" Kathryn while looking at Emil said
' This stubborn woman, couldn't she have discussed with me first !' Felix mumbled under his breath. He looked to Emil and saw him busy with his phone.
He proudly smiled, ' This is his son ! He never loses his cool no matter what situation he finds himself in .'he thought
" Father, don't you also think its high time we fulfill the promise that was made?" Kathryn looked hopefully at Elder Tang as she spoke
The elder briefly looked at his daughter in-law and withdrew his gaze. He didn't get why she used " we" instead of "I" in her sentence !
' Does she need someone to remind her of how the supposed promise came to exist ?!'
'Was I a part of your so called promise?' He wanted to ask this question to her. But for some unknown reason, the words couldn't come out of his mouth.
It maybe because he didn't want her to lose face. Or it probably was because, he didn't want to wash their dirty laundry outside for all to see.
He cleared his throat and opened his lips, " Since am ageing, there are a lot of things I can't quite remember, so I would appreciate it if you could refresh my memory on what the promise was about" he said
Kathryn became flabbergasted when she heard what her father in-law said. But because they were in "public", she carefully thought of her choice of words. She swallowed hard before she spoke,
" Father, the promise am talking about is the betrothal of Emil and Louisa when they were both very kids "
Elder Tang knitted his brows and questioned, " And when and where exactly did such a thing happen? I don't remember anything as such !"
" Father !" Kathryn exclaimed almost in a scream,while staring daggers at him
Elder Tang chuckled in a mocking way, ' You shouldn't have got me involve in the first place'
"Mum don't be mad at grandpa if he can't remember, we can do this some other day, right grandpa?" Louisa softly said in her sweet angelic voice.
She looked hopefully at the elder expecting him to agree to what she said. But regrettably, the elder didn't even spare her a glance. It was as if she didn't call him at all !
Kathryn turned to her husband, expecting him to say something to her defence, but the man was busy chit chatting and smiling with his sons !
How disappointing !
"Am sorry, but we don't have all night. This isn't our house. So, can we please wrap things up?" Leah spoke suddenly causing all heads except one to turn to her.
Emil was still busy with his phone. But this time, he was scrolling through his phone texts with Yvonne.
Kathryn: "I propose the engagement ceremony must be held soon"
Leah: " How soon should it be?
Kathryn: " A week from now will be okay"
Charles: " That soon ? Let's ask the kids what they think of it"
" Emil dear, is a week okay for you to prepare for your and Louisa's engagement ?" Kathryn fixed her gaze squarely on Emil as she asked
" Mum, don't you think you're rushing with this decision of your? Please stop imposing your decisions on brother" Daniel spoke with a deep frown
Kathryn felt anger and embarrassment with her second son's words. She didn't know how to reply to his words.
Louisa looked viciously at Daniel with a corner of her eye. She felt extreme anger towards him,
' Why is he always against her?!'
" Son, I think you should let your brother answer for himself. Such decisions are best if the young ones doesn't go against it. " Leah said with a smile but in her heart, she was stabbing him with a knife
"So Mrs. Kim, are you saying my son has no say if he's being forced to do something against his will? Is that what you meant?" Felix asked in a cold voice earning an approval smile from Elder Tang
" Being forced? Is it that disadvantage to marry our little princess?" Charles questioned with a deep frown.
' He can't sit and watch on as his princess gets insulted !'
" Charles please don't be angry, and don't misunderstand what my husband said . Louisa is like the daughter I never had. So how can she be a disadvantage? " Kathryn tried to calm the angry man
" Then can we please hear from Emil if a week from now is okay for the engagement "
" Yes, its okay, we will have the engagement one week later"
" Mum, please allow brother to decide?" Daniel calmly but sharply said
" Son, just let me be the one to handle everything alright?" Kathryn looked with begging eyes to Daniel. Her look seem to say, " Please don't make things difficult than they already are"
Daniel looked at his brother and saw him occupied in his own world. He chuckled, ' Okay handle everything and see who gets engage on that day!'
"Next week Friday evening at 6 o'clock is the engagement day. Does anyone have any objection?" Kathryn singlehandedly pronounced
"Mtch" , Emil who had been silent all this while suddenly made a sound. It wasn't very loud,but it loud enough for everyone's ears
" Grandpa, I guess it will be okay if we take our leave now?" Emil spoke right after he made the sound
" Yes yes, you can go. I think the minutes gone was enough for us to enjoy some tea. Am also tired so I want to go and rest" The elder said as he made a move to stand up
"Son, we are not done with the matter at hand. So you can't leave ."
" Oh ! Is that so?" Emil gazed menacingly at his mother
" Just some few more minutes and you can go"
" You called me for dinner and I came. So now I want to go because dinner is over"
" So do you agree with the day for the engagement? "
" Mother, " Emil turned his whole body to face his mother and said " this isn't how we make deals. You should have informed me about the other matters when you called me for dinner. In this case, I would have come prepared. " He spoke all this words calmly but emotionless. The only emotion that could be deduced from his words was WARNING.
He turned to his father and grandpa, bowed in respect and took large strides towards the door.
" Emil wait !" Kathryn commandingly called
He halted his steps, " Mother, we've hard enough drama for today." he said without turning around to face them and continued his walk to the door.
Daniel likewise, bowed to his grandpa and father, looked disappointedly at his mother for a second and strode after his brother.
