"What happened that day?"
Yvonne mumbled these four words in a low pitch. She also want to know what had happened to the plane for something so tragic to happen!
Emil tightened his hold on Yvonne as he saw the girl shivered at his words.
In his moment of regretting, a soft voice sounded,
"That day after our encounter, mum and I boarded the plane to a place I didn't know and didn't inquire from mum. I trusted my mum's every word and especially when she said we were going on a vacation and we would be back only when my daddy recovers from the accident and brought us back to Country A. I was very happy because I will finally get to see my dad again. But who would have imagined a plane crash to happen after some hours of taking off " Yvonne at this juncture paused and raise her hand to her face, about to wipe her tears when Emil pulled her hand and wiped her tears with his hands.
He could already deduce that a conspiracy had been hatched. He knew of Plane Crashes, but how often does it happen?
He was sure something must have happened to cause the crash.
"The only thing I saw next was mummy lying on top of me with blood everywhere. She had her eyes widely opened with her arms circled around me. I.... I... "
Yvonne opened her mouth but the only word that came out was the letter 'I'. She sat on the green grass, her knees pressed against her chest with her hands circled around her legs.
She looked like a scared child protecting herself from something or someone.
Emil's felt something sharp stab at his heart. How he wish he can unload all her struggles upon himself! But sadly he can't.
In life as much as we want to relief others of their sorrows, it just couldn't happen. We all have some sorrows that need to be carried only by each and every individual. All what others can do to help is to be there and comfort us.
Do we sometimes feel useless when we can't help in any other way? YES we do!
And that's exactly what Emil felt. He saw how the girl looked but there was nothing he could do other than to hold her in his arms.
Sometimes all what one need is just a word of comfort and the feeling of safety.
Emil's hold on Yvonne created a sense of security that drew her from the dark past.
"I screamed, shouted, cried.... but no one heard my cries. Blood was everywhere. People were groaning in pain, but mum wasn't even moving and my pleas also fell into deaf ear. I didn't know what happened afterwards as I fell unconscious. By the time I woke up, three months had already gone by and my mum was no where to be seen. The face I saw was of that woman's. The woman who made us beg on the street."
That was when I got to know that I was in Paris.
How or when I got there, only God knows.
Yvonne paused as if thinking of something but Emil could see the emptiness in her eyes. He felt as if his heart was being pressed on by a very big hand.
How he wish he was the one who underwent the horrible event.
"I never saw mum's dead body and neither did I know where she saw buried. "
Big teardrops started to fall from her eyes. She finally couldn't hold herself as she wailed loudly in Emil's arms.
"Let it all out. The nightmares, the pains, the horrible experience, let them all out" Emil softly whispered in her ears.
"I...i sometimes think mum is alive somewhere and that she will come for me one-day. But seconds, minutes, hours, days, months, years and nothing seemed to happen. Mum never came"
Yvonne looked Emil in the eyes and asked, "Do you think mum is alive somewhere? "
Emil was taken aback by her question and for some seconds didn't know how to reply to her question. He didn't want to raise the girl's hope by responding yes to her question, and neither did he want to dampen her mood by responding no.
He brushed away the hair drenched with tears from her face and kissed her lightly on the forehead.
"I will always be here no matter what. And I promise to give you more love than you will ever need. Where ever mother maybe, am sure she's looking over you like a guardian angel" Emil spoke these words with deeper meanings, and for every promise he made, he meant it.
"Really? "
Yvonne stared Emil in the eyes asked as if to confirm that he won't ever disappear from her life like how her parent did.
Emil held tightly onto her and whispered "Yes, I will always be here"
