Chapter 45 - The Strongest Element

Chapter 45

"Now then, after two days of pushing ourselves to the limit, our power has grown. Who is the most powerful? That is a question that has been addressed many times in the past few days by way of constant nonsensical banter. Now, we will lay any doubt to rest after I dismantle each of your attempts at victory." Solis finished speaking and retrieved two long knives from his belt. He stood in his area and faced all of his foes. Luna, Ignis, Fira, and Telu all followed suit and took their stances as they each prepared to defeat the other four in a five-way battle.

In a preemptive attack, Luna thrust her hands to the ground forcing the others down with the weight of her gravity. She succeeded with the exception of a certain very large warrior. Ignis stood his ground using the rock under his feet to fortify his position. Then, an eruption of magma under her hands caused the small attacker to retreat.

As the others broke free, Ignis tried to use what little time he had to his advantage. Unfortunately, though, his one weakness would be used against him. Compared to the others he was quite slow. He had managed to create a sizable amount of lava around him, but it quickly cooled in a flash flood. Rain poured to the ground in a torrential storm. Telu's manipulation of her energy was one of the fastest in the group. If Lux wasn't involved, she had the advantage. The ground underneath the warriors quickly became a pool of water up to their knees. She waved her hands to create a current moving against the others. As they tried to move against her power, she stepped onto the surface. She then, propelled herself into the air with a forceful geyser. Once she floated above them in relative safety, she moved the rain into a spiral to construct a massive sea-dragon.

Before Telu could destroy them with her creation, Fira instantly formed a giant sun-like fireball in her hands. She flipped forward and pushed it through the water into the ground. It exploded with such energy that the water evaporated, and she shot upwards toward her adversary. As Fira approached what looked like a floating water-fairy, she fired thousands of intense flares at the recently formed dragon. It was destroyed, but Telu managed to extinguish the attacks just as her opponent threw a fiery fist at her. However, being clever, the graceful warrior had surrounded herself with a layer of water. As Fira drew too close, Telu used the rest of her remaining water to encapsulate her attacker in a large sphere.

From the ground, Solis found his opportunity to attack. He fired an intense ray of light at the two warriors in the sky who had reached a stalemate. The light refracted through the aura of their energies causing them to temporarily lose the bond with their elements. They both fell to the ground unable to stop themselves.

"Really?" Luna said with an accusatory tone, "While they were not looking? Very interesting from the one which demands I fight with honor."

"Well...I just-," Solis stumbled to defend himself.

She quickly took advantage of his distraction throwing a blanket of darkness at him. When he quickly deflected it, Luna appeared behind him and jumped on his back. Her hands glowed with the dark purple energy of the moon. Immediately, she wrapped her small hands around his eyes. Her counterpart fell to the ground as he was overcome by her Nocturnal Spell. Quite proud of her victory, she moved to face the last remaining warrior. Ignis had been standing away from the others as they fought amongst themselves. Luna prepared to defeat one last opponent when a feeling took her off-guard. She turned around to see Solis stand to his feet.

"Surely, the moon is aware that the sun cannot fall under the spell of night." He taunted with a gleeful smile.

"Oh confound it all! I forgot about such a thing!" She said angrily.

Suddenly, rock formations rose up around them and locked the feuding couple into place. Ignis stood behind them with a confident look on his face. He thought he had won the entire battle. However, Solis held a small knife to his side which he then empowered with his energy. His explosive power radiated from the knife destroying the rock which trapped him. He pulled out his greatsword and ran toward the large warrior. He giggled as he ran past Luna who remained trapped in the formation. Solis leaped in the air, turning horizontally he spun rapidly bringing his sword down with incredible force. The blade stopped abruptly as it hit the palm of Ignis' hand. It left only a small cut.

"So large a mountain cannot be cut down by so small a sickle," he declared eagerly.

"I should hope not," Solis quipped, "I would hate to get bored."

He placed his hand on the blade and it glowed with a bright amber. The two warriors charged at one another and exchanged varied, energetic attacks. Before they could establish a clear winner, they were both pushed backward with a flash of fire. Solis' body was launched into the rock that held Luna captive.

A figure wrapped in fire stood in the place they had been just moments earlier. A fiery warrior had reentered the battle with a vengeance. Luna and Solis emerged from the rubble while Ignis regained his stance. The four of them charged at one another to put an end to the battle. Then, a blue light appeared in the center of them, and as they each connected with the light they were thrown into the air. When the light finally faded, Lux stepped into view. Telu rose from her seated position where she had been watching the end of the fight and ran into his arms.

"I missed you, My Tempestas." She said.

He brushed her hair out of her face, "I missed you as well, My Dewdrop, and there is no need for you to address me as such."

She smiled, "My Light."

Lux turned his attention to the others who were just now standing to their feet, "I cannot believe the pitiable state in which I have found you. How could you fight one another to determine your strength? I could have joined if you had waited just a few moments." They giggled to themselves as they painfully walked over to him. Then, he added, "This proved to be pointless, though, as there is one of you which is clearly more powerful than the rest."
