*Flashback*
Two tears Ago
Alpha Tidus P.O.V.
Everyone in the room was dead silent, no one dared to make a single noise, not even the arrogant ruler of vampires himself made a sarcastic remark. Everything was riding on this single moment, we were like gods looking down on our creation of life, scared but also completely fascinated.
"Alpha," Ben spoke breaking my concentration. "Alpha, the first injection was a success. No vitals still, but the test subject is very much viable to continue." With a nod of my head I gave him the signal to inject the test subject again, but this time with a higher dose.
"Test subject has been injected with the second dose, it is recommended that we continue to monitor vitals and have Dr. Noel close by in case there are any changes we are not able to notice while gone." I let out a heavy sigh that I hadn't realized I had been holding in. "Thank you Ben, I think you deserve a much needed break. Soran and I can take care of the rest from here." without hesitation, Ben respectfully bowed and left the lab.
"My friend! Why do you look so glum?" Soran had been attempting to play nice, but I knew the only reason he cared for curing the humans was so that his people could have there live stock back. "I'm concerned that this might not work Soran, and even if this does, how do we move on from this point?"
Soran shifted his gaze to the docile flesh eater we had strapped to our subject table. "Isn't it funny how the humans created a virus to kill the very thing they hate but end up turning themselves into something entirely worse. The even bitter irony in all of this is, in the end, they needed us for salvation, our blood and science for the cure. Pathetic really, no wonder they remain so low on the food chain, and now even lower." I take a seat on one of the swivel chairs nearby, "your point? I ask annoyed he was being haughty."
"My point being my furry friend, is that we will need to keep the humans in check. With them being at an even higher disadvantage than before, they will need to be governed properly, and protected away from both of our clans. Their numbers are extremely small even with successful resurrections, we can't risk our people killing them for sport or love anymore."
"I agree Soran, but how? My people love and coexisted with the humans up until they found out what we were. Have you forgotten that some even are mated to my pack... and severing a wolf's mate from the other is absolutely out of the question. How can I put a male or female through the pain of potentially never finding there mates." I sat there silently rubbing my temples, being a leader and making hard decisions were not something new to the two of us, but we had the wait of a species hanging in this delicate limbo and it was up to us to figure out how to preserve them.
"It is a mere suggestion, but what if we hand picked and trained a small human military force to help restore a simple functioning society? That way they have some control again, and they prove that they can rebuild their communities without being under our thumb. let them elect a leader such as we are for our own people, this time we can sit and have negotiations with all parties included."
"You know, you surprise me with your intentions, I half expected you to want to enslave an heard them as cattle." I laugh to myself, "Tidus! I am hurt that you would think of me as such!" We both share a laugh, if you would have told me five years ago I would be sitting here having a simple conversation with a vampire, a king at that, I would have knocked your teeth out.
"I agree with what you said whole heartedly actually. Once we cure them back into humans and gather the remaining that are still alive, we give them a good chunk of land and leave them be. Any human already mated of course can stay in the pack, otherwise they are to stay in their own section, and no werewolf or vampire are allowed to step foot there until we all agree otherwise."
"See Tidus, being a three thousand year old vampire is good for something. I may be cold and lack empathy when it's needed but with my experience, time and patience is all we have left now." We both shared a smirk, "I couldn't agree with you more."
While we were having a conversation we had both failed to realize that the disgusting rotting corpse that had once laid in front of us had been able to regrow all of its human tissue, that looked perfect... almost too perfect.
"Tidus, look and him." Soran pointed his finger towards the test subject and I was just as shocked as he was. There in front of us, where a rotting corpse previously laid, was a now immaculate male. We both began to circle him completely in awe. "touch his skin Soran, he feels as cold as ice but his skin tone looks a healthy hue." I couldn't read Sorans expression, but I could tell he seemed worried.
The serum had begun to work faster now with our added blood, and with two doses... It seemed to even bulk him up a tad. Come to think of it, Dr. Noel hadn't even had the time to show up for his watch shift, which means that he was able to reanimate in less than fifteen minutes. long enough for the two of us to hold a trivial conversation.
"He looks absolutely untouched," Soran noted, "and even with all of his human flesh back I still hear no pulse, nor is he making any signs of breathing." I shook my head still amazed about what we were witnessing. "What is even more peculiar is that moments ago I was able to smell his rotting flesh and now he is completely scentless." I spoke up trying to breathe the air around me deeply to get any scent on him.
"Well this is the first serum test we have done, it took us two years alone to decipher the formula that the humans created to make this damned disease, and two more to create the anti virus that would even fight this thing under a microscope. He might need a few days for his brain to restore function to help with breathing and such." I raised my head to look at Soran in the eyes, "but something doesn't feel right... my wolf has been on edge all day." He shakes his head chuckling at my worry, "that feeling is called being on the edge of a brake through Tidus, and we are finally able to see it with our own eyes. Relax, the worst that can happen is that it doesn't work, right?"
All you could hear next was the agonizing screams of the man on the table. His eye lids had shot open and his completely white irises looked around the room frantic and afraid. "Jessie! Fred! What the fuck have I done! Oh god, oh god, forgive me please... but your flesh...." The man or creature before us voice started to distort. "Your Flesh tasted so good~ more~ give me more... I want MORE!"
"Tidus!" Soran yelled at me to snap out of it, "I will hold him down if you get the metal clamps latched to the bed! We must restrain him, we have no idea what he could possibly be capable of! He sounds like a new born vampire wanting blood for the first time." Soran let out a chuckle and looked at the creature struggling with him on the exam table. "Hungry pal? sit like a good dog and we might just feed you!" The creature snarled at Soran but made no more moves to fight back, instead they held each others gaze while I had finished putting the clamps in place.
"I don't think it is very wise to antagonize something we don't understand Soran." I backed a foot away from the table giving everyone space to breathe... if that thing even needed to breathe. I looked at them both still gazing fixed at each other. "My god," Soran spoke up looking away from him, "I do believe he was just trying to hypnotize me like vampires do before a meal." He flicked the creature on the forehead, "it might not work on me, because of how old I am... but something tells me that the same might not go for you or a younger vampire."
My whole body began to break out in a sheen of sweat, "so are you saying that we created an even smarter and more dangerous version of a damn zombie?!" I was starting to panic, my people could barely hold their own with the undead... "Tidus, what I'm saying is, until we run more tests, and I mean, me and you specifically, we will have no idea the extent of damage or betterment we could have just done."
Our conversation is interrupted by the cackling of the Frankenstein we had created. "Frankenstein? Oh come on Tidus? if that's your name, you can come up with a more original name than that!" The creature continued to giggle quietly. "Plus I am much more fucking handsome than that fictional character." The look on Sorans face would have made you think I had given a kid a damn pony for its birthday, "can you stop smiling at this foul thing! He just read my mind, we need to figure out what to do with him, before the doctors arrive and halt all virus experiments until we figure this... this thing out!" I yell at Soran, "stop worrying, I have just the place we can hide this fantastic beast!
