Chapter 75 - Relieved (2)

Xi Jian's anger vanished instantly, replaced by a sense of wonder after seeing Ling Yue burst into tears.

"And why the hell are you crying?"

Ling Yue hurriedly took off her glasses and wiped her tears. She smiled awkwardly.

"Come here. I can't approach you now." Xi Jian, who sat on the edge of the patient's bed, moved his hand, ordering her to come closer.

Ling Yue stepped forward. This time it wasn't as heavy as before. "Sorry, I overreacted. I thought I would see your body lying rigid and plastered with many hoses. I really can't believe it—"

Xi Jian put his free hand behind Ling Yue's head, pulled her and kissed her lips.

Ling Yue froze.

"You talk a lot. My ears still hurt so you don't need to add it with your whining."

"Wha—"

He kissed her again. Ling Yue needed to hold his shoulder so as not to fall on Xi Jian. Her legs were too weak because of the round shock.

"Co--"

Xi Jian didn't let her say a word. He continued to kiss her until Ling Yue did not speak anymore. Xi Jian let go of her lips a bit.

Ling Yue took a step back as Xi Jian's hands loosen his grip. Her eyes were a little confused, her breathing faltered, and her face really red. She took the safe distance to talk.

"WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU DOING?!" Ling Yue snapped at him. He made her heart almost fall from its place.

A smirk danced on that man's lips. "Calm you down?"

Ling Yue wanted to throw her bag in that face. Although Xi Jian smiled, his condition was not very good. His left leg was bandaged, his right arm almost completely put in a cast. Several scratches were seen on his handsome face.

Ling Yue watched him longer.

"Why? Are you so fascinated to see me?" Xi Jian's words and expression were unusual. His condition was rather miserable, however he feels more ... alive.

"Who are you?" Ling Yue asked involuntarily.

Xi Jian looked at her then chuckled. "Don't be so rude. Come help me. I promise I won't do anything. I want to lie down."

Ling Yue approached him doubtfully. She felt very familiar with his attitude now. Ling Yue carefully helped him lie down.

"You're back." She said instantly. Ling Yue felt like she was back in their school days.

"I never left," he said while closing his eyes. "Stay here."

"You okay? I can't call you all the day. What are you doing today?" Xi Jian spoke again after a pregnant silence.

"Did you call? I'm doing some errands for Mr. Shi outside the office." Ling Yue searched for her phone. "I'm sorry, my phone dead."

Xi Jian mumbled. "I see..."

"Do you need something now? Should I call the doctor?" Ling Yue looked at him worriedly. Xi Jian's face contorted slightly.

"Nah, I'm fine. Let me sleep for a bit."

That morning before the accident happened, Xi Jian got a shipment of some of Ling Yue's most recent photos directly. The person who sent it was caught shortly afterwards. He said they captured Ling Yue and held her captive.

Xi Jian initially didn't really respond because he thought it was just a threat. Then he told Bai Xu to investigate Ling Yue's whereabouts that strangely no one knew at the time. Xi Jian called Ling Yue's cellphone but didn't connect. Bai Xu called Xi Jian's secretary and they said Ling Yue wasn't there. He called another colleague and they said the same thing. Bai Xu checked the CCTV footage of the office and only found Ling Yue leaving the office and there were no traces after that anywhere.

Xi Jian began to feel fear creeping into his heart. He used Bai Xu's car and drove himself, leaving Bai Xu and his bodyguard behind. They followed him using another car, hand in hand towards the address mentioned by the courier.

Eight kilometers before reaching the target's place, a high-speed truck crashed into Xi Jian's car from the side, another car behind him couldn't avoid and hit Xi Jian's car. Bai Xu who was only a few meters behind him was able to avoid causing only a non-severe impact.

Xi Jian held Ling Yue's hand tightly. He was so angry but relieved that this woman was fine and that it was a mere nonsense threat. He was really relieved.
