"I'm home!" came Belinda's bright voice. She seemed so content with life right now. But I could see the bags under her eyes. She was weakening a bit more everyfreaking day and I could do nothing to help. Like every time I see her I put on my fake smile and try to not think about her state. I looked into her beautiful hazel eyes and acknowledged:
"You're chirpy today."
"Yeah I had a good tip day. Gerta said she might need a manager in a few years and she was considering me if I kept it up."
I loved Gerta, she was the owner of JP Grill and was a real sweetheart. She had needed help when her daughter got married and moved away. She'd hired B even if at the time her reputation in town was bad because of her anger issues. Gerta wasn't bothered by it, she always reserved her judgement until she met in person, and I admired her for that.
"We have a problem, honey"
B stopped and looked at me. She was going through scenarios in her head, I was sure. I indicated with my hand to sit on only other barstool. When she was comfortable, I told her about Aidair.
"You shouldn't have called him." She immediately said.
"I didn't thought I had an option at the time. But yeah, I should've been more careful. And you know, if we do have to move, you could always stay."
She shook her head "You know I'm not in control all the time, Xee. If an accident were to occur, I wouldn't be able to just wipe their memory, like you do. Plus, you're my family, you, Ambros and Lexie, when she's around."
I hugged her. I might be their sister, but really since our parents died 6 years ago, I felt more like a parent. A proud one at that.
That's when Amb choose to reenter the room.
"Hi B." He gave her a quick side hug looking worried. "I couldn't find a lot on him which is unusual since I cracked the Guard's database. I found very little on him. I think it's because he doesn't want to be find. He's a lone wolf who doesn't follow the rules and from what I read he could've been on the Council but just didn't want to bother."
"What is he doing her Lakehawk?"
"He's actually on vacation right now, it could be a coincidence." He said looking hopeful.
"Could be…" I said skeptically.
The doorbell rang. Lexie was here.
