Chapter 16 - - First Money Earned

Qiao Hongye, of course, didn't know of Qiao Weimin's filthy intentions. When she thought about Jing Yunzhao not being able to attend school anymore, it made her mood a little better.

So she obediently made breakfast.

But Qiao Hongye had never done any housework. Her breakfast, of course, was hard to swallow, and she was scolded again by Qiao Weimin.

While all of that was happening in the Qiaos' house, Jing Yunzhao had already arrived at the county town.

She only had a little more than 10 RMB on her, excluding bus money. Her scholarship money was limited, and the Qiaos have never given her living expenses. She sometimes earned money from tutoring elementary or junior high schoolkids, but she was still tight on money.

(T/N: RMB (renminbi) is the currency of China. 1 RMB = $0.15 = €0.14)

But this time, she found a way to make money.

Many of their fruits had been left to rot and wasted because of how busy the funeral made them. Jing Yunzhao took the apple and orange seeds when the Qiaos weren't home and kept them. When she planted them in her space at night, they grew very well.

The water coming out of the stone dragon fountain had the ability to speed up the growing process, but she has to manage the ratios well.

If she wanted to rush the growth of normal fruits, the ratio of the fountain water to the well water needed to be 500:1. If she were to put more than that, the fruit tree wouldn't die but the fruits would grow to be abnormally large. If she were to bring them outside, there would definitely be a huge fuss.

She originally thought that the water coming out of the fountain was water from the well, but she found out otherwise after testing it.

The water in the well was very normal and could be drank directly. It made it convenient for her because she didn't need to get water from the outside to water her plants.

After getting off the bus, Jing Yunzhao found a remote area and took out a wicker basket from her space. The basket was filled with apples. It was a basket weaved from the twigs of an apple tree she grew in her space so it was very sturdy.

She carried the basket weighing more than a 100 jin on her back. It was very heavy.

(T/N: Jin (斤) is a unit of weight. 1 jin = 0.5 kilograms = ~1.1 lbs)

Luckily, the place she wanted to go wasn't very far. Before long, she placed down the weighty basket and prepared to sell her apples.

Oranges were sold cheap. She was in a rush to earn money, so she left the oranges in her space. But the apples she had were red and round. They looked much better than the ones in grocery stores so they will be easy to sell.

As expected, someone came even before 10 minutes had passed.

"How are these apples priced?" The person touched the apples with a face of satisfaction and moved forward to smell them. She kept thinking that these apples had a nice, fragrant smell to them. They were unlike the apples of other places that were covered in pesticide.

Jing Yunzhao was in charge of buying all of the necessities for the Qiaos, so she knew the average price of the apples.

"Aunty, six RMB per jin," Jing Yunzhao smiled and said politely.

It might not have been cheap, but the apples were of good quality. Compared to the stores with the same price, her apples were better by a lot.

The woman was already curious about the young seller. When she heard Jing Yunzhao's polite voice, she had a good impression of her, so she didn't hesitate to bag about 10 apples.

Jing Yunzhao didn't have a lot of apples to sell, but she earned 30 RMB within the blink of an eye. With the woman starting things off, Jing Yunzhao's business only got better and better.

The basket was empty within four hours.

Touching the 700 RMB in her pocket made Jing Yunzhao a little excited.

She had lived for so many years in her past. She had always lived for others. She had done so many jobs, yet she was always penniless.

But in this life, she'll never live like that again!
