Chapter 4 - Gambling My Life

'Screw it, why am I arguing with an inanimate system. It's not like it can even understand me let alone rationalize my situation'

*System can understand and rationalize your situation, you are approximately 300 times weaker than the average newborn on this planet. System recommends host accomplish missions as soon as possible*

'Da' Fuq' The System is A.I.? Oi, System are you intelligent'

*Confirmed. As host becomes stronger and introduces system to more information System will become more intelligent and be better equipped to advise host on the proper path to becoming better than everyone else*

'Alright if you're so damn intelligent quit calling me host it's creepy. Call me Eisen, I'll call you Mos from now on.'

*Confirmed, host will be acknowledged as Eisen from now on*

*Ding: Hidden Title Unlocked*

*Communicator: You are able to communicate your intentions to everyone, including A.I. All Communication based skills level 2.5% faster. Int: .15 gained [Int: 3.15]*

'Oi Mos, what is this nonsense?'

*Eisen will gain stats and exp towards levels based on accomplishments and difficulty of said achievements*

'And you just randomly determine this?'

*Negative, system is preprogrammed Mos is just an interface with no authorization to change system. Eisen may think of Mos as a desktop, able to access parts of the system but ultimately unable to change the system. Eisen will need to upgrade the system to gain any control over locked interfaces.*

'You keep talking about me in the third person, it's pissing me off. Can you quit it. And, what are these missions you keep prompting me to take?'

*Negative, Eisen will need to upgrade system to achieve a more lifelike interface. Mos recommends accomplishing missions.*

Mission 1: Roll Over, Reward: .01 Str, Failure: -.001 Str

Mission 2: Feed, Reward: .005 Str, Failure: -.001 Str

Mission 3: Coo, Reward: .005 Int, Failure: None

'What kind of missions are these. Embarrassing doesn't even begin to cover it. And, why is there a failure cost. I'm a baby damnit, how cruel can you be. If I had a brick I'd hit you!'

*Mos does not recommend that, as it would require you to hit your own head with a brick. But, if you insist Mos will wait*

'...'

*Eisen must chose one mission to attempt, please proceed*

'Mission 2! As if I can choose anything else, I haven't even figured out how to make any sound other than a yell/cry abomination…'

*Acknowledged, Eisen has 5 minutes to feed. Commencing count down… 3, 2, 1, Begin*

'Fuck, you never said anything about a timer!!'

"Wahhhhhh!" Eisen had no other choice than to yell like his life depended on it, his stats were so low if he failed a handful of missions he would literally kill himself. 'I wonder if I can take a loan out if I go negative stats?'

*Negative: Eisen will die immediately upon any stat reaching 0*

'Shit, please, pretty please, nurse hurry, and don't be dumb, I need food!' "Wahhhh!"

In the nurses station the system alerted the nurse that Eisen was in distress, and needed attention. "I hope the poor boy is okay, how could his parents chose life birth. It is just plain irresponsible to let nature decide when there is another option."

Of course she would never say this in front of Eisen's parents. She may be entitled to her opinion, but if people thought she was ignoring Eisen because of her opinions she would lose her job, and it was very difficult to get a job these days. Machines and A.I. did almost everything now.

There were few positions computers couldn't do better and faster than humans. For example there were doctors, but there were no more surgeons, it would be barbaric to let a human capable of making mistakes operate, when a machine could do it 100% right 100% of the time.

No mistakes, no lawsuits, no mishaps. Human error completely eliminated. It increased the longevity of humans by 15 years alone. Let alone the research that A.I. were capable of, they were able to cure all sorts of diseases without ever actually testing, or using money and materials. Electricity to keep them on, and the base cost of the units which cost less than a PhD and they could run 24/7. Added into the fact 1 machine could equal thousands of scientists and it was obvious what people would choose.

As she got to Eisen, the electronic pad she carried notified her that Eisen was dry, and none of his muscles were in distress, he was still half full from his last feeding. "You must just want to be held huh little fella." She picked up Eisen but he just kept crying, she tried to rock him and swaddle him but he refused to be calmed down!

'Feed Me!' Eisen couldn't understand why the nurse wasn't taking him to his new mother. He came from the 21st century and obviously didn't understand he wasn't 'in Kansas anymore' hell he could barely see more than a foot in front of his face and had a hard time hearing anything at all outside of a few feet radius. "Wahhhhhhh!" 'Feed Me!' Eisen tried his hardest to squirm and throw a fit but his poor infant body just could not do much to affect the nurse besides the ear piercing cry of death he emitted every time he exhaled. "Little fella, do you want your mommy?" Eisen immediately shut up. The nurse was surprised for a second, even genetically modified babies couldn't understand language for the first few months. She just shook her head and threw the thought away as she headed towards Lydia's room.
