Mo Tang shoved through the door of the Dusky club, as she brushes her wet hair with her hand and make her way to the barstool next to Wei Lang and sat down. The bartender hands her a clean towel so that she can wipe her dripping wet hair more.
"Thank you," she replied.
"I'm Yang Yang, your bartender for today, what can I get for you?" he asked
Before she could reply, her phone rang. She answers the phone while signaling Yang Yang to server her what Wei Lang was having.
"Hello?" she said in a soft, smooth voice that got the attention of Wei Lang
"Yes, this is Mo Tang speaking?" she replied to the person on the other end.
"What do you mean I did not get the job?"
She asked, trying to keep her voice down and hoping no one notices her. But Yang Yang, You Lee and Wei Lang all kept quiet as the eavesdrop her conversation. They could only hear her reply and try to fill the gap for themselves.
"Who told you I have cancer?" she asked again.
And the moment they heard cancer, they all looked at each other. You Lee, mouthed silently without a voice "Cancer and Jobless?" as he shakes his head
"Even if I have a disease, what does that have to do with me getting the job?
"Tell me the truth and be honest with me?" she continues to ask because deep down Mo Tang knew she was not sick; in fact, she was extremely healthy and robust. Therefore, she wants to know why they are refusing to give her the job.
"She is not my mother, she is my stepmother… Now I understand clearly why your boss refused to hire me. I should thank my stepmother for always ruining my life."
She exhales slowly trying to keep her calm and hold back her tears as she continues. "Can you tell me who they gave the job?"
Hahahahaha, she laughs suddenly, and for a second three men who were eavesdropping her conversation though she went crazy. One minute she was close to crying her eyes out, and next minute, she was laughing.
"They refuse to give me the job because I have cancer and gave to my stepsister… Well, Good Luck to you all…. Goodbye." As she hangs up the phone.
"Oh, dear God, now what I am going to do? She murmured to herself. As she places her head on the bar counter. But it was enough for Wei Lang who sat next to her to hear it.
"I think you might need a stronger drink than scotch?" Yang Yang asked as he deflated the silent air around them.
He smiled at her as he made a strong drink for her.
"This is called Midnight Dusky only signature for this club… drink it, and it will brighten your day?" he nods at her as he places the drink on the counter.
"Thank you but guess I won't be drinking any alcohol for a while?" she replies as anxiety and excitement rose through her gut, and she gently placed her hand on her stomach. A simple action that all three men missed to see.
Soon it will become more pronounced as she hits the fifth month of pregnancy. She needs to find a job, earn quick money in the next three months, and leave the country once she hit the fifth month.
That was her plan but now thanks to her stepmother it was ruined. She has no saving in her account as her father withdraw all of it, she has no place to stay as she was kicked out of her own house. As tears stung her eyelids. She heard someone clearing his throat as the man who sat next to her shift his sit.
"Hey, do not cry, life is not over…. I have a job that will pay you the right amount of money, and you can negotiate…would you be interested?" asked Wei Lang as he shifts his body to face her.
