Chapter 2 - Sly fox

Tao Fuyuan was about to enter the 5 stages of grief when a bustling sound coming from behind yanked him back to his senses. He turned his head, only to see a white fox closing in on him.

Black lines covered his face.

He had absolutely no knowledge in regards to animals, much less how to act when standing in front of one. Besides, foxes with white fur...must be quite rare, ah.

However, a miraculous thing took place at that very moment. A bright light enveloped the fox and it's shape changed drastically, resembling that of a human being. After a breath of time, the light faded, the fox long gone. A white haired man stood in its stead, his golden eyes attentively sweeping over Tao Fuyuan whose mouth hung wide open.

"What is your name?"

The 'fox' was first to speak.

The youth gulped.

"Tao Fuyuan…"

He was still in a daze, but no longer held any doubts concerning him 'transmigrating' into a different world.

"Tao Fuyuan, you may call me Bai Li. I have been overseeing this forest for the past thousand years. However, the tempest you've caused upon entering this plane, I have never experienced such a thing before." He continued, "Those bolts of lightning destroyed a good portion of the magic herbs growing in this vicinity. Therefore, I've come to interrogate you."

Tao Fuyuan's face was blank and his head filled with many questions. However, Bai Li didn't give him the chance to voice his inquiries.

"Tell me about your race, age, affiliation and soul color."

"My what?"

The fox frowned as he repeated his question but, much to his displeasure, the black haired boy did not cooperate in the slightest. Instead, he once again, responded to his question by asking another question.

"What are you, dumb or deaf? Stop avoiding my questions by playing ignorant. Answer me truthfully and you won't be harmed."

"Answer you truthfully?" Tao Fuyuan retorted. "Alright, in all honesty, I have no idea what you're going on about. Soul this, soul that. All I can tell you is that I'm 20 years old and that I didn't have anything to do with yesterday's bad weather. Do I look like a weather fairy to you? Pei! I have no idea who or what you are, but can I leave now?"

Bai Li was utterly dumbfounded.

This was the first time someone had spoken to him like this. As a mythological-grade beast, be it man or creature, everyone would try to get on his good side. However, from the looks of it, the youth really seemed to be telling him the truth.

Bai Li hadn't been able to sense any spiritual energy on this young lad since he'd first discovered him last night, laying amid the lightning bolts in deep slumber.

The universe is home to thousands of different planes, great and small. Cultivation should be prevalent in each one of these planes, although varying in degree and development. Since Tao Fuyuan is not knowledgeable in regards to cultivation, does that mean…

Tao Fuyuan is a commoner originating from the lowest of planes?

That, or he's a waste and lost his memories…

Bai Li didn't know whether to laugh or cry.

The person who'd caused the heavens to wreak havoc is a mere commoner?! Madness!

The white haired man took a deep breath before responding to the latter's question.

"No, you may not leave. I will keep you here a little longer for further inspection, hope this young one won't mind."

His figure suddenly faded and disappeared from Tao Fuyuan's line of sight, rendering the latter speechless. Tao Fuyuan suddenly felt a force grabbing him by his collar and dragging him into the air before moving westward.

"Hey! Hey, ah! Let me down!"

"Are you sure?"

"No, please don't let me down!"

The fox sneered. Puny human!

The time it takes for a short incense stick to burn had already passed when the fox and human duo finally landed in front of a huge cave. The puny little human felt like crying.

"Can't you be a little more considerate next time?!"

Bai Li's veins bulged. He lifted his leg and sent Tao Fuyuan rolling right into the cave before following suit, a spiteful smile hanging on his face.

"Let's have a good conversation on this fine day!"
