Chapter 35 - 35 Creating a More Personal Hell

Unlike Heaven, I wanted Hell to be less uniform. My angels were created as copies of each other, while these demons were all unique individuals. Also, I would be having people visit, so I wanted to make sure that there was plenty to appreciate.

I summoned the World Law Book for the world and perused the Laws pertaining to demons and monsters. Robin and Diamond attempted to read over my shoulder, but were stymied by the English language. I sighed and reached into their minds. Thankfully, they each knew how to read; Robin's father was high up enough in the totem pole to have his daughter get the best tutelage, and Diamond was an old lady. Even more thankfully, they both used a phonetic alphabet rather than symbolic characters. I had been slowly incorporating English into their language knowledge through the use of associating words I spoke with transmitted concepts, though Diamond had had much less time to absorb the language. I added the knowledge of the phonetic correlations to their inner dictionary. This way, Diamond could just ask Robin if she couldn't figure out what a word meant.

Returning my attention to the knowledge at hand, the first thing to consider was how demons and monsters spawn. In Spagetti's World, the catalyst for demon spawns are when the Demon King has enough power concentration to reawaken. The Demon King, an Aspect of the Apocalypse itself, causes that strain of mana to manifest lesser versions of itself. Then he just broods, like Apocalypses do, teasing the world with its imminent doom.

Monsters were actively spawned by the local demon. It mixed other types of mana together and catalyzed them with its own mana. Not only would this cause the monster to be inimical to the local sentient species, but using its own mana placed the monsters almost as firmly under its control as my cult converts were under mine.

As creatures of mana, both monsters and demons fed on ambient mana to survive, but would only grow stronger when absorbing higher concentrations. They could either manually condense the mana, something that required a high level of skill in mana manipulation, or absorb from other creatures, who naturally have condensed mana within them. Since fighting monsters or demons stronger than themselves would not normally end well, the physically weaker flesh based sentient species became the natural prey of demons and monsters.

Interestingly, if the Hero goes and beats the Demon King right away, everything falls apart. While killing the parent demon would not cause its monsters to vanish, killing the Demon King would cause all demons and monsters to dissipate with the vanquishing of the Aspect of their alignment. So I would have to save the Demon King for last, and probably have to kill him too. Since he was an Aspect, the prospect of mindwarping him would be extremely difficult, even for me.

So I would have to make Hell generate enough ambient mana for hordes of demons and monsters. Not only that, I had to arrange a staggering system so that the more powerful of them could survive on the ambient mana. If they didn't get enough to eat, they would fall into a deep slumber to conserve their energy. I could alter their makeup, or reduce their power levels, but that would involve messing with their Definitions. It wasn't a problem to do so, but it would be a bad habit to make. I needed to learn how to solve a problem instead of changing a problem into an answer, or I would stagnate as a Creator.

Then it struck me. That was it! I needed inspiration from how Spagetti, or rather his System, handled the issue.

I checked the book, and found the section on mana distribution. It turns out that Spagetti's World kept things simple. There were mana assimilator stones all over the world. The more stones there were, the lower the mana concentration level. The prime example of this stone would be the one holding the Sword. The stones were also linked, so the seven Heroic Measures were from around the world, not just from the local area.

Letting the ideas float through my head, I thought about creating a copy of Earth for its varied terrain and climates. Throw in a run down look, and the demons will feel at home in a post apocalyptic world. There were a few problems with this, however.

First of all I wanted to put in some effort for my first Hell. Even Heaven had some originality from its multifruit orchards and endless shawarma houses to its genderless angels. Copying Earth seemed rather lazy to me.

Second of all, I was not the best geography student. Even slowing down and studying my brief memories of a spinning globe would not be enough to accurately recreate my former world. If I couldn't do job right, then the feeling of something missing would be built into the World's Laws. Though maybe that would make it more Hellish, I wanted to be able to enjoy my time in Hell.

Third of all, doing so would be far too ironic. While poetic irony has its place, I didn't feel its place was a half done project.

I thought of my games. One of my favorites had been Pokemon, where I could raise critters up to level 99. If I sorted the demons and monsters in order of power from 1 to 99 and then made the Demon King 100, it could work.

How would I separate them? Zones, dungeons, or a stupid system barring harm to lower orders. There wasn't enough difference in power within ten levels to warrant a contrived rule like the third. Zones, where each order of power is in a separate world and needs to take another step towards Ascension to move to the next world, is possible, but would mean that I would have to damn them to Hells, not Hell. It didn't sound as great. Combining the zones into a custom dungeon could work. I could construct it as levels going up toward Ascension like a tower, but Hell means it will have to go down. So each floor would exist in the same reality, just be separated from each other.

There was also the question of population control. The demons could propagate more monsters, and the DK more demons, so how should I make sure I had enough room for the future? I would have to limit them somehow.

First, I should focus on the type of world I wanted. I wanted a staggered type, a sort of world dungeon. It also had to be deadly enough so that when I damned someone to my Hell, he very well stay damned. I also didn't want pleasant scenery like orchard forest in Heaven.

Huh. "System, make an announcement that our first Heaven's title shall be Orchard Forest Heaven." I received an acknowledgement of the official title proclamation, and turned my thoughts back to Hell.

Hell, I decided would have a different immortality system than Heaven. In my Heaven, it is not possible to die or be damaged, directly or indirectly. Hell, however, would have a respawn function. It would allow for many painful deaths to be visited on its visitors. My demons would respawn at their full strength from when they entered Hell, but any other being would have a level of power removed, taking him a step backwards on the road to Ascension.

Before I dismissed the World Law Book, I quickly checked out the Law of Heroes. "Son of a gun!" I swore. I immediately twisted the space before me and linked it to Spagetti's realm.

"Spagetti!" I roared. "Stop approving harem members! I don't need a third party arranging my love life!"

He looked up, frowning. "Aren't you happy with the selections I made? Admittedly, the Sirens were a System error from having two Heroes of different genders, but Robin and Diamond are very compatible with you and each other!"

I glared at him. "How many more? Oh my, three more? How was I going to come across them? Were they going to be shot to me on a rocket? Just stop."

Spagetti sighed. "Fine, I'll stop approving coincidental meetings and automatic positive relationship with potential harem members." He looked put out.

"Thanks." I gave him one final glare and mental check to ensure he wasn't fibbing. He wasn't, but the longer I took, the more he would be tempted. I made him feel sleepy and forget about it. That should work for a little while.

My impromptu message portal untwisted, and I took a look at my girls. They looked thoughtfully into space. Whatever, they were stuck with me now.

I made Hell. It had 100 volcanoes lined up in a row. They endlessly spilled out lava, and were submerged within a literally infinite sea. Somewhat cheaply, I named it Sea Volcano Hell.

The larger the volcano, the lower the level. When the lava they splled forth cooled, it released mana. The volcanoes sucked ambient mana in to power their various functions, with the strength of the pull varying according to size. Thus the smaller the volcano, the more ambient mana there was to be had, as they all produced the same amount of magical magma.

The Hell World Law for mana alignment was that ambient mana was neutral once no longer under the guidance of a Will. Demons and monsters could thus live off the ambient mana. While different from Spagetti's World Law that all mana has an alignment aside from that which is absorbed and filtered through the Heroic Gifts, it was only an environmental change and should not have any detrimental effect on my upcoming collection.

I needed a ruler for this place. I couldn't be in two places at once! Or could I? I remembered the feeling when I had Hypocrisy go into Avatar mode. I had been me and not at the same time. The part that was not was because of Hypocrisy's Will, though, so if I manifested an Avatar where there is no second Will to claim aegis, I could easily be in the another place at the same time.

I smiled at my ladies. "Want to see the birth of a new Demon King? Then pay close attention."
