Edward choked on his coffee and started coughing hard, it looked like he suddenly developed Tuberculosis. Assassin?! Conrad forced a smile, the corners of his mouth twitching in nervousness.
For some reason, their reaction delighted Exia. "Cool, right?"
"R-right. Haha. So, did she tell you anything about being an assassin?"
"Hmm. Not much. Just that, she said… she kills people sometimes".
"Did she tell you why?"
Exia stopped eating for a moment and stared at the unfinished cookie she's holding before she answered. "To survive."
The deeper their conversation goes, the clearer the cracks become. Conrad felt a tight knot in his stomach. With no one to tend to her wounds, her body mended it on its own. Must fate be that unmerciful to this child?!
"That's interesting. You mentioned a window before. Can you tell me about it?"
"Sure!" She continued to munch on the cookies. The sugar kicking in, Exia switched into a talkative mode. "She took me to her room one time. It's just right outside my room, really. So, her room is quite unique. The walls are just plain, no colors and decorations unlike mine. There's no bed as well! It only has brown, wooden chair in the middle and a small white window."
"That's odd," Conrad commented.
