Chapter 5 - Annulling the Engagement (1)

"Sorry to have kept you waiting, Your Excellency," I say as I climb down the stairs into the sitting room with a fake plastered smile on my face.

Sitting in a single cushioned seat of the sofa was an intimidating figure. He had dark pitch-black hair and a dark blue navy coat suit around him with a cape behind his back. Right behind him to his right was his trusted loyal servant: Lord Knight Antonio.

"En," the Archduke said as he didn't even look at my face. My smile twitched every second. Ah... this man doesn't even know how to talk! I looked at Lord Knight Antonio. The fellow young man had a small smile as he said:

"Greetings My Lady, may we pass on the condolences of your late father, Late Duke Castano. We and his Excellency were unfortunate to not been able to attend the funeral. Please understand, Mademoiselle,"

I smiled small as I sat down across them both and said: "It's alright, thank you for your consolation,"

Sigh... The translator, Lord Knight Antonio was the most trusted loyal servant of the Archduke for twelve years. I sometimes used to call him the translator the Archduke. He's the one who spoke on behalf of the Archduke.

In two lifetimes, I found only one thing hard. It was communicating with my fiancee, the Archduke Leon von Volpe. He was a block of ice, I'll tell you. No feelings, no emotions, no words. If you would have carved a statute out of him, people would start worshipping him the next second. His face had this handsome aura out of him that made him feel like a god.

I bet you, even in my second lifetime, I'll have trouble conveying anything to him. He is a non-living thing that only knows how to draw his sword and yell: "To Elerdia!"

And for god sake... those are the only words that come in full sentences.

"Hmm..." or "Eh..." are his way of talking.

The only time he ever talks in five-year-old language is when he is with the First Prince, Emperor, and Lady Alicia. Oh god... I hated that woman. She is from Count Schien's family. The second daughter of Count Schien. She's a vixen too.

...

"Would you want some snacks?" I ask them politely. The translator looked at the Archduke, who had a poker cold face as he barely even moved his head.

"Hmm..." he grunted softly.

Tch... if you want to say something then say it... I'm already wasting my time to spend time with you. Don't look at me like you were forced to be here. At least have some common decency.

"Yes, thank you," the translator said.

Soon snacks and a teapot of tea was served in front of us. I took the cup of tea and softly sipped it. Ah... calm down Mirabelle. If you want to live in peace you must take care of things one by one. But I wanted to discuss about annulling the engagement. But with this kind of atmosphere with Sir Knight Antonio... it might be a little stressed.

I can't slap the letter I was planning on sending to him- on his face. B.T.S. I can see their swords around their hiplines. I bet on one hundred percent that they would probably have their swords drawn by the time I get to explain.

So... what do I do? Can't die now.

"Sir Knight Antonio, I have a small simple request- can I have some privacy to talk about a few things with his Excellency?" I ask him politely. The translator switched glances with the statute.

Seeing that the ice block statue nodded, the translator said: "Certainly," and left.

*BAM*

Soon leaving us both alone.

There were only a few occasions in which both him and I got to talk one-on-one. But the settling atmosphere where he was staring me down... was awkward.

"Your Excellency, there is this unsettling matter that I want to talk to you about-"
