30. The sailor and his bride
A sailor and his new bride were travelling in a ship. Suddenly strong winds started shaking the ship. The wife was terrified and started crying. The sailor just sat down calmly and started praying. The wife was shocked. She cried, 'How can you be so calm when we are going to die? Aren't you going to do something about it?' Suddenly, the sailor picked up a knife lying nearby and held it to the throat of his wife. 'Aren't you afraid now that I am going to kill you?' he asked. Without a bit of fear, she blushed and said, 'When the knife is in the hands of my beloved, why should I be afraid?'
The sailor smiled and said, 'In the same way, when my life is in the hands of God, why should I be afraid?'
When the knife is in the hands of your beloved you don't have the fear that you will be killed. When your life is in the hands of the Divine, why are you afraid that you will be destroyed?
