Chapter 3 - Chapter 3

Shock was an understatement of what Scarlett's siblings felt when they heard of the misfortune their sister had to go through. They were standing next to her feet which were under the comforter. Marie was glad that her sister was safe at the least. Trevor's face was void of any emotions.

" Oh Trevor, she has changed so much, for once I'm glad that she was in the accident. It seems like her behaviour is getting better. She hasn't asked for-" " Shh, dad! don't wake her up." Trevor silenced his father.

As if she had heard them she stretched out on her bed and opened her eyes. She blinked a while to let her vision adjust. " Oh, Marie! Trevor! You both are back from school? How was your day? " She asked them with a small smile as she swept her brunette hair out of her vision and securing it in a neat ponytail.

" It was good, now how are you feeling? " Marie enquired with her hopeful blue eyes. Scarlett chuckled and tapped her little sister on the nose lightly " I'm fine sweet cakes" She winked and Trevor's eyebrows shot up in surprise. " What's with the nickname? " He asked. " Why? You want one too Trev? " She asked. " No, it's just that you nev-" " Ok! Dinners ready!" Their mother interrupted. That was enough for Scarlett to jump out of bed and trail out behind her mother.

While she was busy eating food as she has never before, she was interrupted by the silent whispers that were passing around the table. She tried to ignore their stares and the whispers as well, but now she was getting mad. " What's it about? Maybe I can join the whisper meeting as well." She snapped at everyone. They all looked at her in surprise and fear? " No honey, we're sorry. We just didn't know how to ask you." Her father answered after the looks passed. " Then please ask me. It's rude to be whispering when I'm clearly sitting right here." She said calmly. " We were wondering if you remembered that college starts in a week for you. Being your first year and all?" He spoke out. " Oh right." She let out a burst of forced laughter. " College. I'll be majoring in business, right? " She asked uncertainly. " Of course dear." Her mother clasped her hands together and looked at her with pride.

" I can't believe that my little scar is all grown up and ready to go to college." Her mom said with a proud smile as her chin was raised up, giving away the way she felt. Scarlett and her siblings suppressed their laughter as their parents batted back and forth about how great she was.

She decided to spend the time with her siblings the next day, maybe take them out to the mall or treat them with food? It felt like forever that she had spent some time with them.

" Marie! What are you doing?! Scarlett! I thought you wanted us to be ready by 10:00! You're not ready yourself! Girls!" Trevors yelling was so loud that the sisters had to hurry to shut him up. " Sorry!" They said together.

"Scar, I'll drive." Trevor offered. " Sure. My leg still hurts in the places where it's bruised." She told him and got into the passenger's seat. " So where are we going? " Marie asked excitedly. " Yea, the mall or movies? " Trevor looked at her with expectant eyes. " We are going to the mmm... movies!" She said and Trevor went crazily happy over the fact that he wouldn't have to carry any shopping bags while Marie sunk into her seat. " Sorry sweet cake, but we'll have a sister's only day shortly, for now, let's make this big guy happy," Scarlett said which lifted Marie's mood immediately.

They returned home only when it was dinner time. They had so much fun as Scarlett listened to them talk about their childhood with so much of interest. She just loved her family, even more, each day.

" Trevor... " She shook his shoulder in the attempts of waking him up. "Wake up! " He groaned and opened his eyes, tiny slits. " You promised to take me to uni. Don't you remember? " She asked him. He startled her by sitting up on the corner of his bed so fast. " Oh god!" He facepalmed himself and rubbed his palms over his face to get rid of the sleep that was weighing down his eyelids.

He breezed past her, making a fast beeline to the bathroom. She was waiting downstairs pondering over the fact that she was finally having a breakthrough with college. She took her admission form and confirmation letter with her in a neat folder. She also took all the certificates that she owned till that day as well as her medical record.

She might be the oldest in her class. She was 20 already while her fellow classmates might be 17 or 18 at the maximum. She was always the oldest one in all her classes, even in school. That's probably the reason why she's still a single fish, she wasn't into men younger than her.

Since she wasn't that social she didn't have anyone to call a best friend. She spoke to everyone, but only if it was really necessary. Her anti-social behaviour is a story for another day.

" Let's hit the road sis!" Trevor came down, he took the day off to drop her off in college while Marie decided that she wouldn't miss her classes, not that Scarlett complained about Marie not being there.

" Music? " Trevor questioned as soon as she bid farewell to her parents and stepped out with him. " No thank you." She pushed the earplug that he was holding out. They didn't take the car, instead, they took the bus from the bus stop.

They didn't talk much on their way to the university. She was a little nervous while her brother decided to listen to music.

Trevor rushed her out of the bus as soon as they reached and accompanied her to the administrative office where all the freshmen students were asked to verify their admissions.

They got Scarlett verified and directed her to the main office where she would be handed her timetable for the first semester.

" So I guess you can handle from here?" Trevor asked as he scratched his neck with one hand and held her shoulder with the other. Now she was getting terrified of being left alone. " Yea! I'll just be going then." She managed a good fake smile. He surprised her by hugging her " It's alright Scar, you'll do great. I've known you for too long to tell that you're smile was fake and you're freaking out." he said as she found some comfort in her little brother's embrace.

" Thanks, bro. I love you!" She shouted from across the hallway as she walked away which made a few heads turn her way. That made her uncomfortable, but she reminded herself that she was the oldest in the freshman block, so obviously she convinced herself that she was the boss.

With her chin raised a little high and with a brisk walk, she made her way for her first class.
