Chapter 3 - Chapter 3: Words

Jace had done one thing for her, he had taught her the strange tongue speak. He did not do it in any Attempt to be nice or kind. Circe saw none of that in her world. He did it so she would understand she was the dog, her only purpose to serve him however and whenever he required it.

She now knew that her summer sleep arrangements were in a dog house. She knew her name, Circe. And the First man she now knew was named Frank.

Frank still never spoke to her and the one time she tried to talk he grabbed his electrical rod and shoved it in between her legs till she passed out. Jace was furious at Frank but only because she was unable to be used in that way for her truck duties for over a week.

Tonight as she lay curled in the grass she gazed up at the stars and she begged for something else. Anything else. Jace had warned her he could find her no matter where she ran and she found the truth of that after her first attempt of running father than her field. Memories surfaced and swirled in her mind until it seemed the field disappeared and the past was all that remained.

He had hunted her like the dog he said she was. It was two days till he caught up. And the chase began. Sweat slicked across her body as she ripped through the woods sprinting as hard as she could towards anything other than what she had left behind. Her heart pounded and breath burned her throat. And then a prick in her back and blackness.

After she had spent a week in the truck hooked up and used, fed through a tube shoved into her mouth. Piss pooled at her feet mingling with her blood and once a day they sprayed the van out with a high pressure hose.

The result of that week was her first pregnancy and the first time she died. When Frank told Jace she was pregnant he strung her up in the cellar and kicked her chest and stomach for hours. She finally knew she was dead because she wasn't in the cellar anymore she was sitting in a golden field. She heard a voice and looked up and a woman was looking down at her crying. The woman reached out and tapped her shoulder and she awoke In the white medical room at the farm house.

Jace didn't return for three months. Just long enough for her broken bones to heal. The next time he came he forced her to bend over and plunged a needle Into the back of her neck. He told her that she was chipped and that if she tried to leave the boundaries of the property again without being in the truck It would electrocute her until she was paralyzed and unable to move until he found her. She hadn't run again.

The next time she fell pregnant she was given an injection by Frank instead. After the injection she was suspended in the cellar until the blood clots stopped falling and the cramps had ceased. Then Frank hosed her out and washed her and chained her outside in the yard. The next four times that followed were the same and Circe figured that Frank had never mentioned To Jace that she was Pregnant again.

Circe wasn't entirely sure if words were a good thing or a bad thing. Some words She realized were necessary but most words were cruel cutting deeper than knives. Words were useful for her to expand her understanding. Names were given to identity and objectivity. Places were given words so you could find them or force meanings to them. The truck was horror. The field was lost hope. The doghouse was fitful rest. The cellar was darkness and fear. Words it seemed caused pain and heartbreak. And this never ending hole in her guts that twisted and writhed in anger.

Please, was a word Jace had taught her to say. He wanted her to beg and beg she did. Please was a dirty word that preceded pain and horror. But tonight looking at the lights in the sky laying in a circle of grass, crying and shaking, Circe whimpered out that horrid awful word hoping maybe this time it would work. Maybe this time it all would stop.

"Please".
