"By the way, what's your name?" I tried to break the silence between us while we were walking down the destroyed streets.
"Oh, right. I forgot to tell you." She laughed nervously and scratched her head. "I'm Ashes."
>Ashes, what a weird name...<
"And what's your name? I already forgot sorry"
"No problem. I'm Adam"
"Adam?", she repeated. "That's a weird name."
"So, why do you help your people?"
"I am pretty much the only one that is capable of doing so in our shelter." She answered.
"What do you mean by that? Bein the only one who is capable of doing so?"
"You are pretty much forced to have a good System out here. Everyone gets a job at what they are best at, you know? That's how we make sure that no one gets in a situation he is uncomfortable with." Ashes explained.
"Makes sense to me", I answered, while just thinking, >Oh shit... I will defiantly need to lie about my System now. Even though I would really like to know where a Sex System would bring me in this world.<
"Speaking of it-"
>Here it comes...<
"What is your System?". The all so mighty question that could just be answered by another lie.
I wanted to sigh but I also didn't want to expose myself, so I had to come up with a quick lie again. "I have a hunting System."
"Oh wow, really?" She looked surprised. "I don't know about Atlantis, but out here Fighting Systems are super rare."
"It is the same in Atlantis. That's why I was one of the few who wanted to get out and help in the first place."
"How brave of you!", she replied.
>She's really biting it, huh? She is either super naive or just it's just normal to just trust everyone because I feel like my lies are complete garbage...< "Thank you." I smiled at her. >Come to think of it, I really wanna know how old she is. She could be in her mid-twenties but her height makes her look 16 at the same time.< "And what is your System?", I asked her.
"I have a Gun System", she said proud of herself.
"Oh, that is cool. I guess that's also where your Sniper was coming from, right?"
"Yup, It is a Level 55 weapon. It is suuuuper strong." She said excited. "You wanna know how it works?"
"Sure!"
"You remember the MFS from earlier?"
"The... Magnetic fluid soaker... right?" I asked, trying to remember what that damn thing was called.
"Yes! It drains the Magnetic Fluids off dead Floodhangs."
"Floodhangs?"
"The Monster that I killed earlier. They are called Floodhangs."
"Okay..." >Floodhang, huh? Weird name...<
"They have a magnetic fluid surrounding their body. That's why I didn't want you to attack with that thing earlier." She pointed at my Plasma Blaster. "The Floodhangs are quickly adapting to new weapons used against them, so one defense mechanism they have evolved are these fluids. They repel everything slightly magnetic... Even Plasma."
"Wow, okay. Then thanks for warning me when I was about to attack."
"No problem at all." She smiled at me. "As I said, I'm a helper! Anyway, my System gave me this weapon", she flicked her wrist once and a small blaster appeared, "and it wo-"
"Hold up, hold up", I interrupted her. "Didn't you have a giant sniper just a few moments ago?"
"You mean this?" She flicked her wrist another time and suddenly the big sniper rifle was in her hands again.
"Wow, how do you do that?", I asked amazed.
"It's part of my System." She answered, while laughing at my amazement for something, to her, so primitive. "It's call 'Gun Inventory' and is a Passive Skill that allows me to store my weapons anywhere while accessing them at any time."
"That's a cool skill!" >Not like mine...<
"I know right! But anyway. These two weapons have an everlasting light inside of them. And if you combine these lights with a crystal that can be made out of the body fluids from the Floodhangs, you get a gun that can shoot solid light."
I was baffled. "Solid light?", I asked. "How is that even possible?"
"I have no idea, to be honest", Ashes admitted. She flicked her wrist again to get the blaster in her hands. "It is a mystery to myself." She started to inspect her blaster. "All I know is that it basically works like normal light, just with the small difference that the light does not reflect and goes back to our eyes so we can see. It kills on contact..."
>Well that's not a small diffrence< "So it is basically like a strong EMP-Gun or Taster?" I suggested.
"Not quite. It doesn't shock or anything. It just kills", she said scarily cold.
"It just... kills?" I repeated. "What do you mean?"
"I've never seen a single life form that can withstand just a single shot by this gun."
"Well, that's pretty scary."
"You could say so." She flicked her wrist again o that she had no gun in her hands. "But I see it as a blessing."
"In that kind of world, you are probably right", I admitted.
"Yeah. And that's why I'm the leader of our Military Squad. Some just say I'm lucky. Which I defiantly am by the way. But I don't want to have status or something. I just want to help our people, who can't care for themselves."
"You are defiantly a good person Ashes", I said, hoping that I could bring up the mood again a bit.
"Thank you."
