After surveying his surroundings, Aiden muttered these words: [Far Sight].
Aiden's vision immediately expanded and he could see the surrounding area without difficulty. He then quietly used more spells to map the surrounding area for miles on out and to detect any presence. He then cast the final spell: [Gate].
[Gate] was exactly how it sounded, an 8-ft tall circular portal. Gate can instantly transport you to your desired destination once you step through.
When he walked through, his vision changed to that of a small room. In the corner, there was a full-size bed and shelves surrounding the walls, so much so that if you wanted to know the color of the wall, you would have to remove the shelves. The shelves were filled to the brim with an assortment of manga and with the occasional shounen figurine. His closet was one part of the room that was not almost entirely covered. He had shabby clothing and a terrible taste in clothing.
Of course, the room was entirely dark, and Aiden was just using a simple spell to see in the dark. He's been used to seeing in the dark, ever since he had gone into hiding. He had very vague memories of this room since he had been gone for more than a decade. He had accepted the fact that he might never see this world again, including his family. So for this moment to come, a horde of emotions had overwhelmed him, but he regained his composure soon after.
'I'll have to rest first, and have to get rid of my items before anyone sees them'. In the other world, magical items were commonplace, but this was not the case anymore. 'If a normal passerby sees me, they'll think I'm cosplaying, or think it's too early for Halloween.' So he used his item box to store the magical items that he had on his person. Item boxes were only given to Summoned Heros, and thankfully, he could still use it on Earth too. He had stored an enormous amount of magic tools and weapons in his item box, that combined, was worth more than an entire continent's money.
After raiding his own closet, he regained the 'feel' of his room. Before he knew it, he had been lying on his old and squeaky bed, ready for sleep. He had placed multiple anti-divination and protection barriers out of habit, so he just kept one of each barrier up.
'It's definitely overkill, but better to be safe than sorry.' Aiden had lived in hiding for so long, that being 'overkill' was an underestimation, for all of these barriers were extremely strong. Strong enough to withstand a nuclear strike, bullets, missiles, or quite possibly the moon (though that might not be true).
'There still might be a possibility that I am not the only magic caster, or have knowledge of another world.' There is no limit on how overcautious that someone can be. So Aiden did what was right to him and covered his entire house in another protective spell.
"Maybe this can help me remember," he whispered. Aiden took out a small notebook from his item box. Its look was aged and worn, and the cover was made out of leather. Aiden had bought this book after he had been summoned to write down his experiences in another world. It was full of hope and wonder since his summoning was something that only happens in novels.
His life was not as easy as the novels made it out to be. He had filled several notebooks with traumatic experiences coming from training or monsters. This book was just the first of many, but he had also written about his family here, so this book had served as a refresher.
A refresher to remind him that his parents were dead. A refresher to remind him that he is a shut-in.
A refresher to remind him that he is still alone, that his only family left was his rich older brother who had disowned Aiden. A refresher that his house was, in fact, empty, hat it once had been filled with family. The only thing he really had was Alex and Kate.
Kate had her own family, her own life, and her own dreams, that could have never been fulfilled since she had most likely been tortured and executed. So does Alex, since he has his younger brother to look after.
'I'm actually getting depressed thinking about this.' Aiden wiped the tear off of his face before putting the journals back into his item box.
