Chapter 1 - Prologue

The usual buzz in the city; the traders trying their very best to sell their products, items were being transported and children loitered, with or without supervision.

"Buy the best apples here! Extremely sweet and healthy!"

"Purchase beautiful jewels for a fair cost!"

"Spices sold for a worthy price. Ya meal won't lack."

In the new bakery, Millicent had awoken from her slumber. She yawned quite loudly as she stretched her hands. Getting proper control of her limbs, she bounced up and went to open the curtains.

The size of her grey eyes grew fiercely as she spotted the morning sun shining in the sky. Quickly, she got herself into her blue kirtle and ran out of her bed chambers. She spotted her grandmother, perched comfortably on a wooden stool and drinking water.

"Heavens! The old should scorn the young." She exclaimed, grabbing a broomstick.

"There's no dirt, child." Millicent dropped it. Everything in the bakery was in place. The dark grey curtains were tied, windows opened, the floors thoroughly wiped and on the door, the open sign was put up.

"How can you open the shop without me? We just settled in this new town last night and I rather not have to listen to cries of backpain."

The greying woman ignored her and sipped on her water. Giving up on the woman, Millicent began to make her way to the kitchen until her grandma faked a cough.

"There's an interesting job I found for you child but remember -"

"- Wear the cloak at all times or the townspeople will question me, I am well informed."

The woman tsked at her lack of impatience. "This time, show yourself to our buyers."

She parted her lips. "How are those special?"

It's useless to interrogate her grandmother, she knew but never learnt from the last. "You'll see. Do as I tell. Oh, do take another bath and dress your best."

The next Millicent found herself in front of a castle towering her a thousand times than she is. What separated her from the castle is the wooden gate.

"Who art thou?" The tallest guard out of the two inquired. She gulped.

Her voice lost itself in her throat until she hit her chest and filled her lungs with air.

"The baker, just delivering." She choked out, putting her head down.

The man eyed her sucipiously and unexpectedly grasped a hold of her slim wrist. Only her golden blonde hair was exposed and she forced down her head the more with her free hand tightly holding the cloak as the basket of pastries tumbled unto the ground.

"Betrum, the lady may be innocent." The other informed him.

Betrum instead snarled. "Keep ya yappers shut. There are many enemies in hiding."

The gates began to open from the indoors. The guards and Millicent moved out of the way to see Ulric, the royal advisor.

In his garments, anyone can tell the elderly yet healthy man is not a mere peasant.

"Unhand the lass." Being a brute, he sharply released her making the girl loose her balance. To avoid embarrassment, she hastily gained balance.

The guards showed a sign of respect for the man and Millicent did the same by bowing.

"My apologies, the goods are soiled."

"Not at all, come there are more pressing issues."

Betrum narrowed his eyes at the girl as she strode over to Ulric's side and the gates were shut behind them.

The castle behind the gates were even more marvellous. Under her thick eyelashes, she hid her emotions.

"Aren't you keen?" She shook her head a little. "Uttering my mind to a sire would make me seem..."

"Uncompossed?"

She nodded. Although, it wasn't in her mind. The other guards inside watched the two and dared not to question Ulric.

Once they entered, the peasants hurrying to fufill their tasks too had their eyes on the mystery stranger in a green cloak. Millicent dared not to pull it off.

Finally, Ulric led her to the throne room. He closed the door behind her. "Raise your head, child." A domineering voice called out. It made her blood freeze more than Betrum's.

Pulling down the cloak, her straight golden blond hair fell fully to her knee. She blinked and took in her environment.

A royal wine rug covered the grounds, the red curtains dropped at both sides but it was trasculent enough to receive light. At the front, two thrones were built in.

The king occupied one while the other was vacant. Above, a portrait of the present king was placed. The man is old yet younger than Ulric. His face was shaven, making him appear more younger

The big crown on his head made her kneel without hesitation. "Your Royal Highness."

Unexpectedly, the king descended from his throne and moved towards her. "That's okay, arise now."

Immediately, she did. The king wasn't that tall so she looked at him straight. He fished out a locket and popped it open.

She scrutinised her eyes at the girl. They resembled each other too much. The only slight difference is the girl had honey blonde hair.

"Princess Krea. The lady is unable to make an appearance. " He put the locket into her hands. "But you can."

She felt a bit lighter on her feet. 'Wasn't I to deliver pasteries? That old crook at the bakery must have had a hand.'

"No. My grandmother, will die without me." She confessed, avoiding eye contact from that moment.

"She is well aware and be taken care of. The woman has already been granted 1/10th of the payment."

In her head, she used several profanities yet managed an angelic smile. 'No wonder we finally moved our bums! What else has that woman done behind my back.'

"It's new to I. Can I be excused for today?"

"You may."

With her legs, she moved to the door slowly still in extreme shock by today's events. Before she left, Ulric grasped her shoulders making her stop in her tracks.

"Thou lips shall be sealed." Ulric, the royal's advisor adviced Millicent in a menacing tone.

Then she left with that in mind.
