The next day, Raiden was sitting in a room full of twelve-year-olds. As the teacher came in. he said: "I'll call out your names and your Jonin instructor will come to pick you up."
He then started to call out names and dividing the kids to teams. After reading all of the names, Raiden still didn't hear his name.
"Um, my name wasn't called." He said to the teacher who looked at him "You must be Raiden-Kun. Just wait here, you're a bit of a special case."
He nodded and sat back down. The teacher left and the Jonin began coming in and taking their teams. Fifteen minutes later, all the teams were taken and only Raiden stayed in the room.
A poof of smoke suddenly showed up in the room, it was someone flickering. Raiden focused his eyes on the smoke and finally made out the figure of Jiraiya.
"Ah, Jiraiya-san what are you doing here?"
"Haha, be thankful kid, the great me has decided to take you as my disciple."
"Really?"
"Of course, I promised you I'll teach you one thing some time ago, but I changed my mind. It's pretty hard to find someone compatible with sage mode, not to mention someone marked by a sage."
"Then, please teach me sensei." Said Raiden while bowing towards Jiraiya. He wasn't going to waste a chance to apprentice under one of the three Sannin, especially after reading about their deads this year.
"Good, follow me."
Raiden followed Jiraiya towards a free training ground.
"Ok, normally any graduating genin team is given a test to make sure they have the abilities and dynamic to make a good team, but since you are alone and I'm sure you have the necessary abilities, we'll just skip that. Now, we'll spar so I know what's your strength level."
"Yes, sensei."
They stood about 10 meters apart looking at each other.
"Come at me kid."
Raiden complied and activated his two tomoe Sharingan before flickering to Jiraiya's back with a kunai. Jiraiya turned around and blocked the kunai using his own.
"Pretty fast looks like training with that kid paid off." Said Jiraiya before continuing. "But you're not even close to his speed."
He deflected the kunai and engaged him in a taijutsu spar. Jiraiya punched with his right, Raiden blocked using his left arm, but before he could counterattack he found a punch using his left arm heading to his right. He did the same and blocked with his right.
Jiraiya used his leg to deliver a kick that connected to Raiden's chest. He was pushed back for a couple of meters before doing a flip and stabilising himself. When he looked up he saw Jiraiya right in front of him. Jiraiya kicked his shin, but before he could fly from the kick, he gave him another one to bring him to the ground. He tried stomping on him only for him to stomp a log.
"Although your taijutsu is pretty good, you still lack experience against different styles. We'll work on that. since you used ninjutsu let's see your level in it." Jiraiya started weaving hand seals and did the Fire Release: Flame Bullet Jutsu.
Raiden did the same hand seals and released the same technique. the two Jutsu collided and exploded with no winner.
Jiraiya started doing hand seals again for the Water Release: Waterfall Jutsu. A huge amount of water flooded towards Raiden who used Fire release: Great Fireball Jutsu. A huge amount of water evaporated which made steam around them both.
Jiraiya immediately used Wind Release: Breakthrough as he knew this was an environment that favours Raiden. by the time the steam was cleared away, a few lightning coated shuriken came towards Jiraiya which he dodged by flipping sideways.
At this moment, Raiden flickered behind Jiraiya with a Lightning Release: Thunderbolt ready. Jiraiya immediately used Earth Release: Earth Dome, but unfortunately for him, Lightning is innately stronger against the earth, not to mention Raiden's enhanced lightning release.
The thunderbolt went through the earth dome, but Jiraiya used Earth Release: Hiding like a mole technique to dodge.
When Jiraiya popped back up he found Raiden looking right at him with his two tomoe Sharingan. He used Genjutsu: Sharingan, but it wasn't enough to hold Jiraiya more than a second. Raiden tried to make the most of that second by flickering behind Jiraiya with a kunai, but before he could hit him, Jiraiya's hair attacked towards him and blew him back.
"Ok, let's stop here." Said Jiraiya while looking at Raiden who was at the ground.
"You are definitely at Chuunin level, you excel in ninjutsu especially the Lightning release. Your Genjutsu also isn't bad and your usage of lightning release with ninja tools is great. and like I said before you need to face more styles in taijutsu, you've become too accustomed to those you train with. Do you train in anything else?"
"I started training Kenjutsu when I started the academy, but I'm still a novice."
"Good, Kenjutsu is good with lightning release as well. Your use of the body flicker is great. If I get you the lightning chakra mode you'd probably become one of the fastest ninjas in the shinobi world."
"Thank you, sensei."
"Okay, we'll start training tomorrow. Today, I'll treat you to lunch. follow me." Jiraiya took Raiden to the place he frequented with his last student the fourth Hokage, Ichiraku ramen.
they were walking down the street after finishing their meal when Jiraiya saw a kid with blonde hair, no more than three years old looking malnourished getting kicked out of a shop.
"I won't let a demon buy anything from my shop." Said the shop keeper holding a broom and shooing the child.
He suddenly became extremely angry "Raiden, take care of that kid. I have an appointment with the Hokage." Said Jiraiya before giving money to Raiden and flickering toward the Hokage tower.
