Chapter 2 - After the Accident

I jerked awake, sweat covering my body, tears streaming down my face. That was the second time I had the same dream. After 10 years at 18, and I'm still traumatized over what happened. I pull the sheets of myself and sat at the edge of my bed, calming myself and gathering my surroundings. That's right I'm at a family friend's house. Ever since that accident, I had a hard time moving on. I had frequent dreams about the accident but eventually it subsided, until I no longer dreamed about it. Thankfully, during my hard times, my parent's friends brought me in and called me their own. They always supported me, sent me to school, and when I had one of my 'episodes', they didn't hesitate to step in and assist me. I don't know how I got so lucky but I'm definitely glad towards them.

I stepped out of my room, grabbed my towel and went to take a shower. I took my time, thinking about all that happened ever since that accident. Sally, the mother hugged me and accepted me in her life despite the circumstances. George, the father has supported me academically, and taught me how to fight, to help my anger issues. And their daughter, Emma, has been a great presence in my life. Never once doubting me and always having my back, I am eternally grateful for her.

Once done and dressed, I went down to have breakfast.

"You're up early," the clanking sound of plates and bowls could be heard in the kitchen, " Sleep well?"

"Emma..." I trailed off. She usually doesn't wake up this early in the morning unless she has plans to go out. " Yeah, just had a bad dream that's all."

"Again? I thought they were gone," A look of concern was plastered on her face. "Are you okay?"

"Yeah. Nothing serious I'm sure it will go away. Anyways, Sally and George at work?" I asked, redirecting the focus of attention from me.

We talked for a bit, and Emma left after that. Apparently she has a date in the morning and she was in a rush. This means I'll be home alone again. I sigh, ready to head back into my room when there was a loud knock on the door.
