Chapter 1 - The lurking shadows

"Is everything ready?"

In a dark hall large enough to hold a feast that featured a centurion of soldiers was a throne. In contrast to this large hall, the throne was quite small, insignificant and seemed capable of only seating a small teen.

Strangely enough, the throne was darker than the room itself and gave off a dark glow occasionally that was visible to only the keenest of eyes.

Above the throne with only a few half a dozen feet separating them was the head of a creature. The mouth of this creature was wide open as though it was roaring and several rows of huge and impressive teeth could be seen.

The most striking feature of this lifeform was the pair of blue eyes that seemed to glimmer. These eyes served as the only source of light in this depressing hall. Even though it was just a sculpture, the oppressive might of this creature could be felt by all who gazed upon its magnificence.

It radiated an air of nobility that caused anyone in its presence to feel the need to knee. This was no surprise since this was the sculpture of a Wyvern! This mythical creature was widely acknowledged to be the cousin of dragons. A creature that left destruction in its wake and terror in its slumber.

In contrast to this significant creature, the lithe figure on the throne seemed to draw no attention at all. Long black hair cascading down her shoulders that blended with the hall and deep black eyes that sucked one in if they starred too long, this black woman was the very embodiment of beauty Her beauty was so great that it could not be described. One could only understand her beauty if they were blessed enough to catch a glimpse of her.

The question asked came from the full and supple lips of this woman and was directed to the armoured figure below the throne. This figure was in a half bow with only one of his knees kissing the ground. His head was lowered in subservience and respect for the black beauty seated on the throne.

As though to compliment the bleakness of the hall, his dark-red armour clanged occasionally due to the slight trembling of his shoulders. He was shaking, but not from fear- no, not at all. He only had great reverence for the throned figure. He was shaking due to the dangerously low temperature of the hall.

"Yes my liege. All preparations have been completed. We eagerly await your command."

In contrast to the shivering hulk of a man who dwarfed the throne even when down on one knee, the woman seemed perfectly fine with the freezing temperature of the hall.

She lightly brushed aside a few strands of her hair which had fallen down her face mid conversation and shielded one of her big beautiful eyes and spoke,

"I see. Any news from James."

The kneeling figure showed a small, nearly indiscernible smile at her question. He had known the Ice Empress longer than most men and could detect a hint of emotion in her voice. She seemed anxious and excited. As one loyal to his leader, he was happy that she showed some emotion once in a while.

"Yes my liege. Everything is fine on his end."

The graceful figure rose up from her private chair and proceeded to retreat into her chambers.

"That is good to know. You may leave."

The kneeling figure voiced his acknowledgement and excused himself. Others may not have noticed but he had extraordinary senses. Even in the dark he could see the faint smile of happiness of his empress. Only few could bring her such joy. "Hehe, I can't wait to see them again."

"The coordinates have been prepared sir. Should we proceed?"

A young man dressed in a green camouflage apparel that identified him as a militant was reporting to a broad shouldered man who had his back facing him. This man was 9 feet 8 inches tall, almost 10 feet and had spikes protruding from his shoulders- one at each shoulder. The giant nodded to signify his consent.

The young man pulled a device connected to his hip and spoke into it, "This is Lieutenant Green. We are good to go. I repeat we are good to go."

The spaceship shook in acknowledgement and began to move at a light speed. Knowing his part was done, Lieutenant Green returned the device to a holder attached to his belt and stood silently behind the giant. The giant sensed his presence and began to speak,

"It is time to enlighten the rest of the universe. It is time to bless the universe with the gift of the Holy One. It is time to save the remnants of this dying universe. It is time we introduced the universe to the Revenants!"

As the giant ended his speech, he waved his hand to dismiss the young lieutenant. Green nodded his head in acknowledgement and exited his captain's chambers. As he closed the door, the young soldier waiting for him asked,

"Where are we going to this time lieutenant."

With a stoic expression that seemed plastered to his face he replied,

"Sector 7, Planet Zandor."
