The next day the priest was awake early and making breakfast when he heard the child suddenly talk. It was the first time, and he was startled because of this.
"This smells good, what is for breakfast." The child said who just woke up. After saying this, she climbed up from the basket to get out of it and see the food.
She then went and sat next to the old priest. The child stared at the priest with the most adorable and pitiful expression that she could muster, as if she was begging for food from the old man.
Feeling helpless, the old priest smiled softly, "You know that the puppy face isn't helping, as I already made a portion of food for you. So with me, you don't have to beg it, child. If you are wondering why we can talk now, it is because you received a blessing from my goddess Rodona. She blessed you with her last powers." The priest said solemnly. Despite that, he still handed the portion of the breakfast he made to the child.
The girl started to eat the food very slowly, savoring every taste before she asked the priest, "Who are you, mister, and how did you find me?"
"My goddess Rodona gave me a divine command to follow the trail to your carriage and find you from there. For my name, it is Griswold, and I'm your teacher now. So when we travel. I'm going to teach you at the same time. You just have to sit in the basket and listen carefully." The priest continued to explain as he ate his proportion of food.
"Then I call you just a teacher, mister, and thank you for the food." The child said, expressionlessly despite really feeling grateful.
"Your first lesson starts now. In this world, since you have accepted the blessing from a goddess, you cannot be lax. You need to strive to be strong to protect yourself." The priest said seriously, then added, "You can only depend on yourself to do this."
The girl nodded her head as if she really understood what the priest had said. However, in truth, she was concerned and did not like the idea to only depend on herself. She was asking herself if the priest plans to leave her as well soon.
"So for your first lesson, I'm going to teach you is about your class. Everyone has one, and every human has a different one and different statues. As you see, my class is a priest, and you are priestess because you have received power from a goddess. I am not part of any organization, but when you join one, they will get your other information like name, job, age, alignment, and current strength. I think I don't have to explain more about them. The higher your tier class, the better benefits you will get. There are low, mid and high tiers or levels of class." The priest started to explain. He was telling the girl many things and failed to notice that she was already falling half asleep.
Who knows how many things the priest had already told her when he realized that she already dozed off?
Because of this, he unhappily flicked her forehead that caused her to wake up instantly.
"Child, how dare you sleep when I am telling you something important?'' He said with arms crossed over his chest.
The girl rubbed her forehead before she apologized sincerely. "I am sorry, teacher. Can you repeat what you have said earlier?"
What could the priest do? Can he refuse? Of course not. So he had no choice but to explain the things again to the child.
"I am now a low tier priestess then, teacher?" The girl asked the priest, curiously.
The priest shook his head, "You are still way below that child. Though our goddess Rodona had given you her blessing, it still not enough to completely open your ability. You haven't unlocked them yet. Maybe when you find an opportunity, then you may rise immediately to the low tier and unlock all other abilities given by our goddess. You just need to work hard every day. But for now, the morning is almost over, and we still have a long way still to travel. So do you want to walk, or do you want me to carry you?"
"I can walk. I want to walk and feel the earth under my feet, and I don't want to burden your back at all ." The child said as she waited for the old man, who was packing up the stuff and cleaning the fireplace.
When he was ready, they quickly started to travel. The old priest slowly taught the child about the basics at the same time.
Their relationship, who knew what it was for now, but it seemed that they were getting closer and closer gradually because of these small interactions and pauses.
