"He's done well, I should prepare a little reward for him," I thought as I put away the Remnant.
"Thanatos, Thanatos, Thanatos, what is it that you desire? Is it souls? Energy? Power? Power. He loves powerful items, despite not needing them. I should go check my Lair for something to give him." I walk towards the far corner of the ruins and move a bookshelf to the side, revealing an enchanted door.
This door can only be opened by stating the pass code aloud. The pass code changes only once every millennium, the general life span of an Omega. Unfortunately, the last Omega died prematurely. I can't know or change the code for another three centuries.
Oh well, the pass code is only needed for those who don't have the power of the Omega, I just need to present my power.
I press the back of my left hand against the door to scan it, then I remember.
"I don't have the power of the Omega because the Alpha died!"
The light around the door suddenly turns red as it activates it's defence mechanisms. I try to pull my arm away but it was stuck to the door. I feel immeasurable pain in my hand as cracks starts forming on it.
"It's no use! C'mon Valdus! Think! Think! Think! There HAS to be a solution!" I stop for a few seconds to think, "Amputation. I have to amputate my arm or else my whole body will break. Blade, is there a blade anywhere?" I scan around the area, "I'm the Omega! What the hell would I need blades for?"
I forcefully pull myself from the door and accidentally dislocated my shoulder. I guess there's only one option left.
"Oh dear, this is going to hurt," I tell myself as I prepare for the worst.
I bite into my skin to make the first opening to tear my arm off. My teeth dig deep into it before my body reacted and pulled away, screaming with blood in my mouth. My heartbeat escalated rapidly, especially around my shoulder, the blood from it running down my arm to paint the door and floor a deep red.
I gather the last of my strength to tear my arm off just as the cracks reached my elbow. This is my last chance and if I hesitate, I'll be killed. I pull my body backwards and pain starts rushing through my body quickly. My skin is being ripped apart layer by layer as blood continues to spill out. I'm just about half way through when the cracks were centimetres away from my body.
"So...this is the end for Valdus the Omega. Well, I had a good run, despite it being only half a decade. I accept this fate and hope there will be a better-"
"Why don't you shut the f*ck up!"
Right at that moment, the cracks reached the shoulder but didn't spread any further. I don't understand what happened, but I'm still alive.
Just as the tension started to die down, lights began emitting from the cracks in the arm. It began expanding at a rapid pace.
"Oh no," is all I could think of. It's going to explode, I know that. The ruins were built to withstand the power of an Omega but, I'm not. I'm as weak as a mortal, I can't survive this! I guess all my effort is wasted...
...
...
...
What? I can think? So that means I survived the blast. How, though? I'm a mere mortal and that explosion had enough power to blow up a moon.
"Valdus, wake up!"
I snap out of unconsciousness and immediately sit up as I look around. My eyes stop their erratic journey on a familiar face sitting across the room.
"About time you woke up. It would be bad if my employer died while I was in the area."
"Eros? Is that you?" I ask the man.
"It's Thanatos, have you lost brain cells in that explosion?" he gestures his finger in circular motion parallel to his ear.
"You can't fool me, Eros. I recognise your voice, it's been a while," I look at his figure and realise something wrong, "What happened to your leg? Are you alright?"
"It's nothing, Valdus. I should be asking you that. The door shouldn't have reacted that way." I feel his gaze on where my left arm used to be.
"No, it's the way it should've reacted," he looks at me in confusion. I guess I haven't told him about the connection between an Alpha and an Omega. "Eros, the Alpha died."
"I've heard, but what's that have to do with what happened?"
"There's a special bond that Alpha's have with Omega's, "I see him straighten his back, I guess he's ready to listen. "It's good that you're willing to listen, this is a long story."
He nods and pulls his chair closer to my bed.
"Are you familiar with The Author?"
"I've heard it before, but what's so important about it?"
"Well Eros, The Author is the one that created our universe, and many believe he created more," I pause for a few seconds to push my body on the wall to make it easier for me to sit, "When He created this universe, He gave it five deities to govern it: the Overseer, the Alpha, the Omega, and the Alpha and Omega's Champions. The Overseer sees all and is responsible for writing books to fill up the Library of Existence. As you know, only the Overseer and The Author can enter the Library."
I feel my throat drying up so I gesture to him to get me a drink. He brings out his scythe and pulls out a vase of water then hands it to me with a pill. I push the pill back into his hand, "I can't take that, you'll understand soon enough."
He sits back down on his chair as I drink the water. I put the vase down as I finish drinking half of the it.
"Where was I? Oh right, the Five. The Overseer rarely shows himself, even to the other deities. For this current Overseer, not even myself has seen him. All I know is he's doing his job as the All-Seeing Eye still has information of current events. The Alpha has the duty of ensuring that Creation continues to occur in the universe as it is needed for the universe to progress. The Alpha's Champion is responsible for Preservation, to ensure that creations such as planets and people stays as long as it needs to. Then there's the Omega, responsible for destroying creations as needed. The Omega's Champion's purpose is to prevent Creation from occurring at too fast of a rate."
"But then, where is the Omega's Champion? I haven't seen him at all."
"Neither have I. I don't know if it's because the previous Omega died prematurely or because I've barely served as the Omega for 5 years," I explain to Eros.
"It is strange, but what's the connection you were talking about?"
"All of the deities, apart from the Overseer, are connected by one string of fate. If one of the deities were to fall, the rest will lose their power."
"I see, but what's all that have to do with the door?"
"Eros, the door to the Omega's lair can only open by the Omega's power. Since the Alpha died, the Omega's power within me disappeared with him. In that moment, it thought I was a mortal and activated it's defence mechanisms to protect the treasures it holds." I stare at my shoulder, it looks like Eros has bandaged it while I was unconscious.
Eros gets up and walks slowly towards me, "So does that mean that you're no longer the Omega?"
"No, of course not. I'm just having a bad day. I'm still the Omega. I am the Omega."
Eros changes his route to that towards the window. He stops in front of the window and let's out a deep sigh, "Okay, I get it now. So that's why you want me to train the girl, to get your power back."
"No, it's so that the universe doesn't fall into Chaos. As I said, I'm just having a bad day."
Eros locks gazes with me then nods, "Alright, then I'll go ahead and plan the next stage in training her. You should get your arm checked out, I'll see you when I get back." I stand up and nod. He gives me a faint smile then disappears in a cloud of dark feathers.
I sit back down, bring out the Eye and activate it.
"What is it that you seek?"
"What? No "Omega" at the end of your sentence?"
"You are no Omega, you may be powerful, but you don't have enough power to be called an Omega."
"I am the Omega and you will refer to me as such!"
"I am not obligated to give someone a title they do not deserve. Now, what is it that you seek?"
This Eye is already pissing me off. What does it think it is? I AM the Omega! I'll tolerate it for now, but when this bad day ends, I'll destroy this thing!
"Where is the nearest universal blacksmith? I need a temporary replacement for my arm," despite me hating the idea of hiring someone for help, I will need this for the tasks I'll need to do.
"The nearest blacksmith that can make a proper prosthetic arm for you is a mere three and a half light minutes away, right next to the planet Zelanov."
"A mere three and a half light minutes? That's closer than I thought, this will be easy." Ive travelled lightyears in the blink of an eye before, how hard can this be?
"I sense there's more you wish to accomplish once you get your arm," it states in its signature monotonous voice.
"I seek to fulfill my duty and keep Creation in check," I explain to it.
"With your current power, you can only keep Creation in check in three different planets at most."
"Shut up and get back in my pocket," I deactivate it then put on my coat, "This Remnant seems to be malfunctioning, I guess that's what a few trillion years will to do any machine."
I put the Eye back in my pocket and step outside the Ruins. I look at the blades that were dropped by those baboons the other day. The swords seem to be made of some of the best metals in the universe and as a matter of fact, I recognise them as the best swords in the market a few years ago.
"It may be beneficial to have one of those on me in case of dangers on the way," I think for a few seconds, "Nah, I'm the Omega! What is there to fear?" I kick them off the edge of the Ruins and see them drifting in space.
"I know the way to Zelanov, this journey will be done quicker than I initially anticipated," I say as I jump off the Ruins and dash toward the direction of Zelanov.
