Chapter 1 - Chapter One

That Guy

~Levi's POV~

"Work it Levi!" Miranda yelled as I danced around my boutique with Caleb.

We were listening to 'last Friday night' by Katy Perry. I know you probably think it's wrong for me to be dancing around an expensive boutique, but it's not like we got anything better to do. It's the first 20 minutes of the day and no one ever comes in this early. We have at least another hour or two till our first client gets here.

As we are dancing around the shop, Caleb takes Miranda's hand and twirls her around. She starts laughing when she smashes into the sink and turns it on, soaking herself and Caleb. That's it. I burst into laughter as they slip on the water slowly seeping to the floor.

I haven't seen anything this funny since that time Caleb slipped on a banana peel. That thought makes me laugh even harder. Miranda turns to me with an evil grin plastered on her face. Uh oh.

"Miranda...why are you smiling at me like that?" Just then I realize Caleb is missing from the picture.

I turn around just as large hands grab me around the waist and I'm lifted into the air.

"Ah! Caleb put me down!" He chuckled in response.

He chuckled! Oh, I am so gonna kill them later for this.

We were slowly getting closer to the sink when the bell rang signaling that someone came in. Caleb turned us both around and dropped me on my face.

"Ouch!" I yelped as I hit the ground.

"Oh get over it." He said and walked over to the two guys standing in the doorway looking at the three of us amused. I don't recognize either of them. They're both wearing suits and they look very important. I wonder what they want.

They want a room for two. My inner voice said. Oh, shut up. I'm you remember. I mentally facepalmed myself before looking back at the men taking inventory.

The one on the left was tall with dark brown hair put into somewhat of a pho hawk. His eyes were a nice shade of brown. He kinda looked like a teddy bear. No judgment! He really does look like a teddy bear. The other was tall with light brown hair sweeping over to one side. He had the bluest eyes I had ever seen, and when I looked in them I was lost and I couldn't find my way back out. He was also very tan. On his left hand, he had rings on each of his fingers. To say he was hot would be a major understatement.

It was just then that I realized the three of us were soaked, panting from laughing so hard, while 'Rusted From The Rain' by Billy Talent blared from the speakers (the song must've changed in our little scuffle), and let me tell you. We looked like a mess.

"Hello, I'm Caleb. I am the assistant manager of Savvy Salon what can I do for you today?" Wow, he sounds like an uptight professional. I snorted in my head.

"Uh...Nathan here needs his hair cut, his salon was just recently shut down. So we need the best person you've got to do his hair." The one on the left said nodding towards who I assume is Nathan. But what really caught my attention was that he said it all in one breath! I just stared at him in awe until I remembered I was sitting on the ground.

I got up and walked to the back of the shop and turned down the music so it was a low hum. I grabbed the mop from the supply closet to mop up the water. It was then that Caleb decided to seat them both and tell them to wait a moment.

He walked over to me and took the mop out of my hands. "You're up." Was all he said.

Oh yeah, did I forget to mention that I am the top hair stylist in the world? Well, I am. It was confirmed just last week by...well just about everyone.

"No, you do it," I said taking the mop back. I was not gonna touch that hunks hair.

"They asked for the 'best' that's you" he took the mop back.

We continued to do this for at least 10 minutes before we heard laughter at the front of the salon. We both turned to look at the two men laughing like there's no tomorrow. What's so funny? I thought, or I thought I thought it. {wow I apologize. That's a lot of I thoughts...}

"You guys! That's what's so funny!" It was Nathan who said it. He was still laughing so I just waited till he composed himself.

"What are you guys brothers or something? Cause you act like it." This time it was lefty that responded.

"No, we're not brothers. We opened this place together, and I am seriously regretting it." I mumbled as I walked towards Nathan.

"Hey! I heard that you little schnitzel!" I turned to stare at Caleb.

"Little what?" I asked incredulously

This has the two men laughing again. Great! Might as well close down now cause it's going to take the rest of the day just to get them to shut up.

"Hey, Nathan. Shut up and sit there." I said pointing to a seat across from the one I'm currently standing at. He grumbled but got up and moved towards the seat.

The one I'm at is Miranda's. Our names are stitched into the backs of the seat as well as labels on all our stuff. Speaking of Miranda where is she? I turn to Caleb.

"Hey, where's Miranda?" He just shrugged and continued mopping.

"How can she just disappear and no one knows where she went?" He just shrugged again.

Oh, one day I am going to kill him because of his uselessness. Sighing I picked up her hair dryer which was neon green.

"Do you think she'd mind if I–" I was cut off by Miranda stomping into the shop coming straight for me.

"Uh-oh" I heard Caleb saying.

"Levi Bloom Jackson! You put down my blow dryer unless you wanna lose your balls!" Where did she come from?

I shrieked and put the dryer down walking over to where Nathan sat. "Jeez, woman. No need to get your panties in a twist!" I said while turning Nathans chair around. So he was facing everyone and not the mirror. I started to grab my supplies.

"Wait–" lefty said. I looked up expectantly. Did I do something wrong? "You're Levi Jackson?" This time it was his turn to look at me incredulously.

Why are people always so surprised to hear that I'm The Levi Jackson?

"Last time I checked yes. I'm Levi Jackson. I'm sorry I'm not trying to be rude or anything but who are you?" I couldn't help but ask. I can't just call him lefty. Nathan snorted when I asked. I poked him in the shoulder. "Don't laugh. The only reason I know your name is cause he said it already." That shut him up. Ha.

"I'm Kyle," Lefty said while snorting at what I said to Nathan and I nodded.

"So Nathan. What do you want to be done? Just a trim, the whole thing off, something funky, something professional?"

"Something professional, but I want to keep the top, but I want it trimmed." Damn, he's picky.

I nodded and got to work. When I was done, I turned him around so he faced the mirror. "Something like that?" I asked as his eyes bulged.

This is what I did. I shaved the sides so it looked 'professional' I trimmed the top so it swept over better, and I used my special gel so that it would stay in place without it making his hair look wet or greasy. It was really quite simple.

"It looks great." He said and for the first time today he looked at me straight in the eyes.

The world seemed to stop as we just stared at each other. Neither of us moving. Neither of us breathing. He slowly moved closer. We were mere inches apart as the bell rang and we snapped out of our daze. Snapping away from each other.

He shook his head as he stared at me trying to get the rest of the daze to leave. I turned to the door to see Hazel, my regular from before I became important, waiting patiently. She was an elderly woman and by far one of my favorite customers. I walked up to the desk.

"Hello, Mrs. Hazel. What can I do for you today?" I asked her.

"Oh, Levi. How about a slight trim? Do you have time for that?"

"I always have time for you Mrs. Hazel. Please come sit." I turned around to see Nathan standing in front of my chair still staring at me. "Excuse me, Nathan," I said. He just shook his head again and walked to the desk waiting to pay.

"Please sit Mrs. Hazel. I'll be right back." I turned back to Nathan.

"So, that'll be...$30.87," I said handing him the debit machine.

He stuck his hand in his pocket and pulled out a hundred dollar bill. He handed it to me.

"Keep the change." He said as he walked out with Kyle following behind him. Looking just as confused as I was.

What the hell? Who is that guy?
