Chapter 2 - A Fateful Encounter

"You haven't forgotten have you Kazu…?"

Startled by an ominous voice Kazuki woke up in a cold sweat

"It's been a while since I had that dream..." he muttered

Unable to fall back asleep, he got off the sofa and left the room quietly as to not wake up Akeno, who was sleeping in the other room

"You should join us big brother Kazu!"

Voices from his dream continued to haunt his mind but Kazuki just shrugged it off as he took a walk out in the dead of night

With only the Moonlight to guide his path he continued his walk until he saw someone sitting on the grassy floor in the courtyard, it was a girl looking up at the sky, curious as to why someone would be out this late he walked towards her

"Can't sleep?" He asked

The girl hearing this turned her head towards him

"Yeah...You too?"

As he walked closer he was able to get a good look at her, instantly he was captivated. Kazuki wasn't the type of guy who would find girls cute or beautiful but this was an exception. Her light blue hair that waved in the wind, her sapphire eyes that glitter in the moonlight. Put it simply if Akeno beauty was that of a model her's would be that of a goddess

"Beautiful…" Uttering the words he was thinking out loud

"They are aren't they" She replied to him thinking he was talking about the stars

"Well that too"

"That too?"

"Anyways, what's a girl like you doing outside at this time?"

"I was admiring the stars" said the girl

"The stars?"

"Ever since I was young I always admired the stars, the way it shines even in the darkest of times. It feels as if they are telling me to keep moving on. To find a reason I exist, a place where I belong. Ridiculous isn't it?" In a soft monotone voice she told him

"Ridiculous? Far from it"

Kazuki understood where she was coming from. A reason to exist, a place to belong. All of these were things he himself was looking for and as such he could never think of it as 'ridiculous'

"Follow the path you think is right"

The girl was surprised. She had expected him to laugh like everyone else but instead his face showed no signs of laughter rather serious in fact, like he was in some sort of deep thought.

"Hehe your a weird one aren't you?" letting out a giggle as she said it

The girl's eyes that was looking at the star strayed towards Kazuki's left arm, distinctly wrapped in bandages, curious of it she asked

"What happened to that arm of yours? Did you injure it or something?"

Kazuki who heard what she said grabbed his left arm

"That's…" His face showing it was something he wasn't proud off

Seeing this the girl shook her head and retracted her question

"You don't have to tell me if you don't want to"

"Yeah, sorry about that. I'll tell you the next time " He said with a bitter smile

The two of them continued to talk until the dawn began to rise as if they had known each other for years.

After their short conversations the girl stood up from the ground, patting the grass off her back

"I should get going now"

"Yeah I figured as much"

With that the girl began her walk back when suddenly she stopped, and without even turning around said to him

"You know, while it may be short, I really enjoyed the time I spent with you Realising this he couldn't help but let out a chuckle so thanks hehe"

Before continuing on without waiting for a response

Kazuki although unable to see her face knew she was smiling and so he couldn't help but smile a little and under the tone of his breath said as she walked away

"I should be the one saying that…"

As the girl disappeared into the distance Kazuki realised something

Come to think of it I didn't get her name did i?

In realisation of that he couldn't help but chuckle a little

"Don't forget!"

With the girl gone suddenly the voice from earlier haunted his mind once more, but Kazuki this time merely stood up from the ground and looked up towards the sky before mumbling to himself

"I'll join you when this is all over"
