"I'm getting out of here," murmured Alice as she glared at the wall of vegetation facing the group. They were hyped to kick some butts. However, this forest kept shifting and they found themselves running in circles.
"I can't smell a thing," commented Emmett. His nostrils flared and he took in a deep breath. Still, he couldn't detect what was wrong with this place. It was a nightmare of a labyrinth. A prison for the mind. Whatever power was at play here, it was ancient and vicious. Bella and Edward exchanged a knowing look.
"Can you two share with the group?" groaned Emmett, he was growing frustrated with the uselessness of his powers. He discovered how much he relied on them in everyday life, particularly his nose. As a vampire, his senses are constantly scanning his surroundings for threats. Bella and Edward nodded at each other before answering them.
"We've been thinking about it for a while and have tested the theory for the past hour," explained Edward. Bella nodded in agreement. "Since we are stuck in a sort of illusion. It's trying to mess with our senses to get us lost."
"Bah!" snapped Rosalie. Emmett narrowed his eyes at her. She snorted back. "What? It's nothing new. We have been running in rounds and I can see frustration rolling over your shoulders." He rolled them to make a point.
"Hey!" Edward snapped his fingers to get their attention. "This is what I'm talking about. This place is trying to tear us apart. So stay focused. It's watching us." They are peered at the rustling foliage. "Right now." Silence settled among the Cullens. They are pushed against the power blanketing this place. Underneath the heavy pressing presence, there was something else. Emmett suddenly took a sharp breath. His pupils dilated as he hung on the second presence.
"Jacob," whispered Bella. Edward nodded. "He is out there fighting for our girl." Warmth bloomed inside her chest and tears clouded her view. Edward laced his fingers with hers. She squeezed back. Hope spread among the members of the Cullen family.
"This way," said Emmett as they marched toward the faint scent floating like a fragile rope leading them through this impossible labyrinth.
