Chapter 65 - The den

65.

The veil of trees gave way to a slight slope. Green grass carpeted each of my steps. Wildflowers swayed in the gentle breeze. The wolves had disappeared with their alpha. Wolves had restless energy and had to run it out of their system.

Haze surrounded me. A strange sensation. I let out a deep sigh. My stomach rumbled and I frowned at it. Food. I licked my lips. My nostrils flared, my powers rushing forward in a radius. Trees, rocks, soil. I could see the pulse of small animals. Sensed the larger ones flee away from my touch. I wasn't like the wolves, wild, untamed. I was worse.

"Renesme?" called Jacob before I could launch myself in my hunt. I've felt a habitation a couple of miles away. Easy, sleeping, warm blood. PREY. I tore my attention from the drumming hearts. Renesme! His voice was a command.

"I'm hungry," I frowned at him. A slow smile spread over his lips. His scent slammed into me. For a second, I lost myself in it. He was back in his human form. A pair of torn jeans barely hung from his hips. The top button was undone. His tan torso glistered from the moonlight. He extended a hand.

"Our house is waiting to welcome you," I took a step forward. His voice sounded like music. His blood pulsing. I blinked and was blinded with the vision of the taste of his rich blood coating my tongue. My lips parted and my canines extended. My whole body trembled with the need. "Come, my love," I reached him in a flash. The speed of the impact almost threw him off his feet. He anchored one foot to brace himself. He grunted against the violence of my power. Our power mingled and burned around us.

"Feed," I growled. I threw my head back flashing my canines and pulled on his hair to expose his delicious neck.

"Here?" he chuckled. I didn't give him time to add more. A sharp breath escaped from his lips as I dug into his skin. My mind exploded into a million tiny shards. His blood tasted like drugs. His hands tightened around my waist. I drunk and drunk. I lost myself.

"Enough," he smiled. My eyes fluttered open. I didn't let go. "You're a bad girl," his steel grip caught my jaw and pry me away from him. I licked my lips and hissed at him. His wound was healed in seconds. I wanted to lick the remaining blood smudged on his skin.

"You need to learn some manners," his eyes were gentle.
