Chapter 2 - Chapter 2

Well, initiation day, which was yesterday had been a rather normal experience all things considered.

That is, if you consider the teacher getting pranked by me; the resident pyromancer (there is always at least one of these kinds of people in a class, if not more than one) burning someone's blazer for touching her ass and both of them getting lunch detention afterwards for pyromania and sexual harassment in turn, or the fact that I've been told that each of us were going to be put into pairs of boys and girls by the teacher in order to share dorms together.

Oh joy…..

The only person I even know that I would even consider pairing up with would be Maxy.

But even then that's pushing it.

Especially when she won't stop trying to get closer to me, though it was only so we could talk

She obviously has never had a friend that was male before!

And she obviously never understood the importance of personal space!

Get your hand off my back and stop pushing our seats together!

I have literally only known you for two hours!

No you cannot lean against me!

Stop acting like we've known each other for years already!

Anyway, the teacher is just about to announce our dorm room placements.

I push away Maxy from me in order to focus on what was said.

"As this class is supposed to help bring about the next generation of famous mages and warriors, we thought it would be good to pair you each up with a student of the opposite gender in co-ed rooms in order to maximize trust and bonding with each other…"

Blah blah blah, we want you to have kids so we are forcing you into couples and all that is what she is really saying.

I see exactly what they are trying, and I can see so many ways this could go wrong.

One way it could go wrong is that, while their abilities and such would be a perfect fit and would make an awesome baby, the two could hate each other when it came to personality.

For example, you could put me with Brittany and, while our hypothetical child would be pretty powerful with illusion magic along with potion and alchemy skills, that doesn't change the fact that we would most likely absolutely hate each other.

They would be stupid to pair me and her together.

"And Steph Lyn along with Brittany Stratfordshire will be roommates in room 14." The teacher, Miss Ebony I learned, called out.

Well, never mind, the Academy is stupid.

Stupid, stupid Academy, never doing the smart things...

"I wanted to be roommates with Steph, me and him are friends." Maxy said out loud to herself.

Maxy, the adorable little social recluse that she is, of course is completely oblivious as to why they were doing this at all.

As was common for people who didn't have much time for socializing, she had no idea of what pairing up two people of the opposite gender into the same room was supposed to accomplish in the slightest.

What it was supposed to accomplish was a baby going 'wah!' all the time along with the parents ripping their hair out while trying to get some damn sleep at 12 o'clock at midnight so they would have enough energy to be ready for the exams the next day.

Damn Academy, never thinking things through.

Either that, or you're doing this to screw with us students on purpose, you sadistic bastards.

Meanwhile, in Maxy's adorable head...

What!?

I didn't get put with either of my friends!?

But I went through all the trouble of talking to them and everything!

Oh, why does everything socially have to go against me!?

This isn't fair!

I most certainly did not whimper at this moment at not being put with one of my friends, that would be very unladylike.

I tried to talk more to Steph, but he was pushing me away and complaining that I need to learn more about personal space is, and that I was getting way too close.

Oh come on!

5 centimeters away is a perfectly fine distance!

At least, I think it is, not sure though.

I'll have to read up on it some time.

Anyways, my roommate is a nice boy named Simon Winchester.

He is a magical scribe that can summon almost anything he draws with his quill.

He can even draw in the air.

This reminds me a bit of my teacher back when I was younger.

Several years ago…

"Why hello there, I see you have finally arrived." Said the Professor.

There is a sound of me sitting down in the chair in front of his desk.

"Ready for the lesson are we, little one?" The Professor chuckled.

The Professor waited for a response, but did not receive one from me.

The Professor's smile dropped from his face.

"Well, I guess I should get down to the basics then, hmm?"

The Professor gets my reaction through a very quick nod in his direction.

The Professor at least seems happy.

"Well, I think we should start off with the Persona of the body."

I tilt my head in confusion.

The Professor chuckles even more.

"What, did your dad never tell you about the Persona of the body?"

I shook my head viciously.

"With the way he's been teaching, I might have thought he didn't want you to know anything about Magic." The Professor sighed.

"Anyways, the Persona of the body is the one unique ability of a mage; no other mage can have that exact ability."

I nod along to his words, putting the information away into my head for later use down the line.

"For example, my ability is to cast shards of ice and control their positioning, no one else in the world can do this, except for me."

I nod along more.

"Well, there can be ones that are similar, but no Persona can be completely the same." The Professor added.

"Now, time to move on to more common magic!" The Professor says with excitement.

My eyes most likely have stars in them, or something.

"There are main types of magic in the world currently."

"The first type of magic I will talk will be Elemental Magic." The Professor reveals.

"This type of magic focuses on controlling the literal elements of the world, which include fire for pyromancy, water for hydromancy, earth for geomancy and air for aeromancy." The Professor concluded the sentence, letting it all sink in to my mind.

"Pyromancy mainly focuses on dealing harm to enemies; there aren't many uses for it besides setting things on fire."

"Hydromancy mainly focuses on things like healing and blocking the path of your targets."

"Geomancy also focuses on blocking your targets path, and also generally putting obstacles up for defense."

"Lastly, aeromancy focuses on pushing away your target and generally moving at higher speeds, keeping yourself up with as few steps on the ground as possible." The Professor finished off.

Elemental magic seemed very restrictive.

But that might be because it is easy to get into?

"Elemental magic is the easiest type of magic to start with, but the magic can be very restricting."

Huh, guess I'm catching on to the idea of magic better.

"Now, the next magic type is Matter magic."

This certainly sounds different.

"Matter magic focuses on creating objects from other pieces of matter"

This seems specialized.

"This is commonly used by magical blacksmiths and crafters for making objects imbued with magic."

So it's used for making magical artifacts, items and weapons.

"My robe was made using matter magic, you know."

My eyes piqued at that.

What properties did his robe have?

What was used to make it?

So many questions that I want answered now!

Oops.

A bit too much there I think.

I need to keep the weird parts of my mind on a tight leash, or else people will think I'm strange and not want to hang out with me.

Wait, people already think I'm strange.

Crap, crap, crap, crap!

What do I do!?

I'm screwed!

I won't be able to get a husba-

Whoa, that went somewhere weird.

"Um, Miss Ambersky, will you please stop having a social crisis within your head and focus on your learning." The Professor says out loud to get my attention.

I hold my head down in sorrow, why am I so useless at anything that doesn't involve fighting, or cleaning?

"Miss Ambersky, you are fourteen years old, you will have time to think about what will happen when you enter one of the academies later."

I blushed in embarrassment.

I need to calm down.

"Anyways, the last magic we will be talking about is Energy magic, which allows you to cast spells of pure energy, this is one of the most flexible magic types there is."

But what does it exactly entail?

"You know about spells like that magic missile?"

I nodded my head, that was the spell that sent one or more bolts of energy at a target and followed them until they hit something.

"Oh" I say in realization.

"Well, it seems you finally decided to say something, progress!" The Professor said in happiness.

I haven't spoken at all?

I forgot to speak, damn shyness, well, it won't happen next time!

"I do believe that is all we have for today, Miss Ambersky."

Back in the present with Brittany…

I was put with Steph as my roommate.

This is dreadfully not good.

Afterall, I know why they do this, and I can say, I certainly don't like the peasant!

Wait, why do I feel unsure?...

Nevermind!

I don't like him at all!

And I definitely won't be checking what clothes he wears.

That would be unladylike!
