---------Yue Xiang's room----------
A cool breeze had started up during the night as the autumn winds came to take away the heat of the summer. It was turning colder by the day as yet another season passed.
Under the glow shining from the lamp on his desk, a silver-haired man held a file in his hands as he read it slowly, taking in every word.
He sighed as he leaned against his chair in frustration. He brought his right hand up to rake his fingers through his thick, luscious hair. He briefly closed his eyes before opening them again, allowing one to see his dark blue eyes that were as mesmerizing as the deepest part of the ocean and held just as many secrets. His black eyebrows, that was as straight as a sword, were sloped downwards in a serious expression and his rose coloured lips were drawn into a hard line of displeasure.
If any girls could see him at this moment, their breath would catch and their heart would speed up as if they saw a god come down to earth, only for their pleasure.
Yue Xiang, the adopted son of Yue Yeager, was a mystery that you couldn't help but unravel. Although he was offered a high position within the Yue corporation, he had turned it down without a second thought. To the outside, this was simply crazy as the Yue corporation was involved in many different industries including technology, marketing, investments, and manufacturing. They could not be considered that big of a business on an international level, but within Country Z, they were one of the top 2.
However, behind the scenes, he was in complete control of every aspect of the corporation and was the one directing the CEO on what to do when. Instead, as far as the public knew, Yue Xiang had followed in his adopted father's footsteps and joined the military to become the youngest General in the history of the Yue family. He was the commander of his own troops that concentrated on domestic missions that no one else would be able to do. As far as anyone could tell, that is where his passion lay, and as such, many people respected him both inside and outside of the military. He was considered to be the number one bachelor in City A and many women wanted him for themselves.
As darkness started to drift into his office, he continued to read through the numerous reports on his desk. The tea that the servants had replaced for the third time had turned cold once again, ignored in favour of the files.
Nothing seemed to have disturbed the tranquillity of Yue Xiang's study and yet, his head snapped up from the file he was reading as he turned to stare into a darkened corner. "What happened?" he asked in a hoarse voice, putting down the file in his hand.
"Sir," a man stepped out from the shadows and saluted Yue Xiang. "It appears that someone spiked our Miss' drink." The man, dressed in a nondescript black suit was the head guard that Yue Xiang had trained to guard his sister from the shadows.
'Crash!!' an unexpected sound of something breaking was suddenly heard, echoing throughout the room. The guard did not move as the heavy desk was suddenly thrown across the room through sheer frustration by the Yue Xiang, almost hitting the guard.
The things on the desk were scattered across every corner of the room. Yue Xiang rose from his crouched position with a dangerous glint in his eyes that promised retribution. In a dry voice, he demanded, "Who was with her when she blacked out?"
"It was Miss Wei Wan that was near our Young Miss at the time."
The head guard knew how much his leader hated the Wei family. For the past four years because of the Wei's daughter, the Yue family was in a constant battle with Young Miss going against her father and brother over almost everything.
If only the Young Miss could find out about Wei Wan's deceptive heart, maybe then she wouldn't be used so easily against her family. Its constant conflicts were causing endless grievances to the Master and Young Master as they tried to clean up after the Young Miss.
"Don't tell Dad anything. I will personally talk to Yue Wan about this issue. Keep an eye on the Wei and Li families and let me know if there are any movements or anything else I should be made aware of."
Yue Xiang waved his hand to dismiss the guard after giving his final instructions.
When only silence reigned once again in his study, Yue Xiang sat back in his chair and massaged his forehead. He needed to figure out how to deal with those two families as soon as possible. There always seemed to be a wolf at the door and their other opponents were starting to close in. He let out a long sigh as he took out his cellphone to send a message.
'Complete the drug report as soon as possible.'
Confirming that the message was sent, he put the cell back into his pocket and left his room.
----Next Day----
Yue Wan bolted upright from her bed, her face was damp with sweat and her eyes were wide open in fear. The remains of a nightmare still fresh in her mind. Her ears still could hear those footsteps walking towards her, the rumbles of thunder, and the gusting winds during the storm.
Fear stuck in her throat, making it feel as if she couldn't breathe. It was her darkest nightmare. Every night since she woke up in her room she relived that time when she was buried alive in that coffin, her baby trying to be born, but to no avail. Her body shivered as she recalled how the blood pouring out of her, covering her as she was soon drowned in it. Her heart desperately cried out for help, but no voice came out.
"It's just a dream, Wan. You're alive. It's ok, you're alive." She gasped for breath, trying to calm down her erratic heartbeat. She could not overcome the fear in her heart.
After pacifying herself, Yue Wan took a long hot shower to clear her thoughts. To divert her mind away from the nightmare, she thought about various things.
'What should I wear today?' After going through her wardrobe, she picked up a white dress that she had never seen before. Looking at the dress, she couldn't help but wonder. 'Who bought this for me?'
It looked custom-made and was an imported dress! 'I should wear this today.' Yue Wan smiled to herself as she got dressed.
Once she checked herself out in the mirror, she went downstairs to find the rest of her family.
In the dining room, Yue Wan spotted her father who was sitting down at the dining room table.
"Good morning Daddy."
Suddenly hearing her voice, Yue Yeager turned towards her and was dumbfounded by what he saw.
Yue Yeager, the current Master of Yue family, he was the biological father of Yue Wan. He had lost his wife during childbirth, so he loved Yue Wan more than anything in the world and spoiled her lot. After all, she was the only thing left of his deceased wife and the love of his life.
"Good morning, Little Wan," his voice was loaded with joy and wonder, as he looked over at his daughter.
Before her rebirth, Yue Wan always acted like an egotistical lady and never listen to anyone.
There was never a peaceful morning in Yue manor because of her behaviour. The majority of quarrels always seem to surround the topic of who would become the heir to the Yue family, and Yue Wan was never satisfied with the answer.
Yue Wan felt guilty as she saw her father's happy face.
'Daddy always said that he would do anything for my happiness, but I had made things very difficult for him. I don't remember the last time I saw him look this happy. All he wanted was for his family to sit together at the table and eat a meal in peace, but I made it difficult for him to even have that small dream. Due to all the fights I started, big brother wouldn't even join us, and even dad started to skip his meals in order to avoid the conflicts that I brought.'
She felt guilty as her memories took over.
She knew that she was the cause of her father's early death. The fact that he did not take care of his health combined with constantly trying to clean up after he and the conflict between her and Yue Xiang resulted in her father dying within a few years. This time, though, she wouldn't let that happen.
'I promise dad, I will take care of you.'
"Have you had your breakfast yet, Daddy?" she kissed her father on his cheek as she sat down beside him to the right. The spot across from her was where Yue Xiang was supposed to sit, but he never bothered to eat with them anymore.
Being kissed suddenly made her father somewhat dazed. He put his hand on his cheek and grinned at her. Though he was tough and cold in front of others and never bothered to talk to outsiders, he acted like a pile of goo around his daughter, who had him firmly wrapped around her little finger.
"Not yet Little Wan. Dad needs to go to work, so I will have it later."
He affectionately rubbed her head and was prepared to leave for work. Yue Yeager also worked for Country Z's military like his father and adopted son did. His job was more administrative after all these years, managing the technical side to a few teams. However, outsiders were not aware of what exactly he did, or his rank in the military. All they knew what that he was high up and a Yue, which meant that he was not someone to be trifled with.
Yue Wan held his hand and swung it back and forth in a spoiled manner. Her lips turned into a small pout and with depressed eyes, she gazed at him, "Daddy please eat with me. Little Wan feels lonely."
Seeing his cute daughter making such a rare request, Yue Yeager couldn't say no.
"Oh My Princess, of course, Daddy will eat breakfast with you."
He embraced her and continued: "Come on, how about we eat your favorite? I have just instructed them to bring in some of the stuff you love."
'His love for me is still the same as before my rebirth. In the past, chefs constantly arranged my favourite food. Since I had faith in my phony best friend, I was blinded to what I had. I always believed that since I am the real heir, the chefs did all those things just to try and impress me.'
Thinking about her brainless actions in the past, Yue Wan wanted to do nothing more than slap herself for her stupidity.
Yue Wan knelt by her father's side and looked him in his eyes.
"Daddy, in the past I acted like an irresponsible person. Please forgive me, I made a big mistake and hurt everyone. I know that my words cannot justify my actions but give me this one chance daddy. I will uphold our family name and I promise that I will always respect your decisions from now on."
Yue Yeager gazed into his daughter's eyes and saw the assurance that he was looking for. He smiled at her with an open heart.
"At long last, you understand what I was trying to do, Little Wan."
Yue Yeager held his precious girl in his embrace and cried tears of satisfaction.
"It's ok Honey. It was all in the past. Now I am just happy that you finally understand me. My only wish is for our family to always be together."
Yue Wan nodded her head while listening to his words.
Yue Yeager looked at her with a complicated expression.
"Please don't hate your brother, he lov--."
"Father," a firm, masculine voice interrupted him in the middle of what he was about to say...
