Chapter 157 - The Fire Fades

Logan: "What now?" Logan asked Magus as the homunculus gathered around.

Magus: "Now, we take Remnant away from their control." Magus said as the rest of the homunculus came around.

Logan: "How?" Logan asked as he glared at the Brother Gods, hoping this would severely hurt them.

Magus: "They have a piece of Remnant's ether inside of them." Magus began to explain. "We need to rip that out and use it. From there, we can take back Remnant."

Logan: "Okay, where do we begin?" Logan asked.

.

But before Magus said anything, the Homunculus surrounded Logan and used magic to encase Logan into a bubble of pure mana. Logan slammed his hand against the bubble and swore when nothing happened to it. Logan then glared at Magus.

.

Magus: "First off, you need to leave." Magus spoke in a no-nonsense tone. "You weren't meant to be here. With your presence, you've derailed the plan. You must leave.

Logan: "What's going to happen?" Logan asked, knowing that there were gonna be side effects.

Magus: "I didn't want for it to happen, but there was no way around it." Magus sighed. "The downside to this way, people are going to die. Those with Silver eyes are going to become the foundation of the new world. Those with mana still left in their veins, are going to become -"

Logan: "Stop." Logan said cutting off Magus, "I don't want to hear any more nonsense." Logan sighed and opened his [Inventory]. "There is another way. One that I've long since kept quiet about."

Magus: "If you have a better way of dealing with this, I'm afraid it's too late." Magus spoke sorrowfully. "I began the ritual right before you got here."

.

Logan sighed and pulled out two things from his [Inventory]. A diamond that looked like it had a living lightning bolt inside it and a glowing orange ticket.

.

Tai: "Summer?" Tai asked when he saw Summer sit up.

.

But something was different about Summer. When Tai approached her bed, Summer's head turned a full 180 degrees, and stared at him with soulless eyes that reflected the void. With an unholy screech, Summer twisted around and lunged at Tai. Her fingers elongated into sharp points. Her face stretched beyond what a normal one should allow. Her body turned lanky from the transformation.

Tai reacted purely on instinct as the deformed Summer lunged at him. Rolling to the side, Tai got ready to punch what was once Summer in order to defend himself. As Tai got to his feet, ready to strike Summer, he lost sight of her. The door to the room remained closed and the window untouched, but she wasn't anywhere to be seen.

.

Tai: "What the hell?" Tai asked himself as he scanned the room for Summer. "Where the hell did she go?"

.

{With Weiss}

.

Weiss, along with Willow and Winter, rushed towards Ruby's room after hearing a monstrous roar that shook the whole manor. Wiess and Winter were the first to make it to the door. Winter, having just got back from work, was still armed and entered first. Only to be thrown back out. Weiss looked in, only to see nothing in there.

.

Weiss: "Winter, you okay?" Weiss asked after making sure the room was empty. "What threw you?"

Winter: "It was Ruby." Winter said as she stood. "At least, I think it was her."

Weiss: "Ruby?" Weiss asked then looked around the room, finding nothing. "Wait, where did she go?!"

Winter: "I don't know, but that thing that threw me looked like her." Winter spoke, "But she looked like someone took her and deformed her."

Willow: "What's going on?" Willow asked as soon as she arrived, a saber in hand.

.

Winter quickly explained what happened. When she finished, Willow slowly walked into the room while keeping her guard up. After finding nothing, not even a hint as to where Ruby went, she came back out. Willow then asked Winter what exactly the Ruby she saw looked like. After being told, Willow told them to follow. Following along, Willow took them to the manor's library, where she brought them to an old corner that was hardly touched except for the hands of the manor's servants.

.

Weiss: "What are we doing here?" Weiss asked as she watched Willow start examining the books.

Willow: "We'll find answers here." Willow told her before pulling an old book off of one of the shelves.

Winter: "What do you mean mother?" Winter asked, just as confused as Weiss.

Willow: "These books contain insights into the past." Willow spoke. "About creatures that were not Grimm, but beasts. Like you, I, or wolves."

Winter: "Beasts?" Winter asked. "Are you saying Ruby somehow devolved into a mindless beast?"

Willow: "Not all beasts are mindless, but I fear that Ruby may have turned into something more dangerous than a mere beast." Willow spoke solemnly as she put the book back and grabbed another. "Help me look. We're looking for an old, handwritten diary."

Weiss: "Will this diary tell us what's wrong with Ruby?" Weiss asked as she began to help look.

Willow: "Possibly," Willow spoke, 'but with the way she is now, I doubt we can help her.'

Winter: "I think I found it!" Winter called out after an hour of searching.

Willow: "Let me see," Willow asked and was given the diary. "Yes, this is it. Now, we only need to find what she has turned into."

Weiss: "Lanky, elongated fingers..." Weiss said as she began listing what was wrong with her and what changes Ruby had undergone.

Willow: "Aside from what wasn't wrong with her before her transformation," Willow dryly commented, "I think I found what she turned into."

Winter: "What is it?" Winter asked, ignoring what Weiss had said.

Willow: "From the darkest depths that humans have lived in, these creatures were once human, but now no more." Willow started to read out. "Mutated by raw Dust, these beasts crave the flesh of the untainted. Whatsmore, from what I have observed and tested, these creatures are resistant to conventional weaponry. Requiring heavy ordinance infused with dust, it's the only way to bring these creatures down."

Weiss: "What are they called? And is there a cure?" Weiss asked when her mother stopped talking.

Willow: "These creatures are no longer Human or Faunus." Willow read. "For they lost the one thing that makes them human, their humanity. There is no cure that I have been able to find. And if there is a cure, I don't know how long it will last or if it will. I've come to call these things 'Verfluchter Mensch', or cursed Humans." Willow spoke. "By Doctor Van Schnee."
