As I slid through a windowsill trying not to get caught, I couldn't help but look back at the boy who had stolen my heart. His dark hair was backlit by the moonlight; his scent, warm and strong, followed me as I left him behind.
It was hard for me to hold in my feelings when I thought of everything we were going through. Every day was a challenge; I'd run home from school, rush through my homework and secretly slide out the back door. Our parents divorced years ago, and my dad knew I had a lot of activities, so as long as I was careful about when I got home, they weren't a problem. His parents didn't lets girls come over, probably to make sure he would study, but that left me sliding in and out the window at all hours.
Getting caught by them wasn't the worst issue. They'd be mad, but I'd leave and things would be okay. The only person who would really make things a nightmare was my brother.
He was 18, and you could say he was the "star of the show." He did well at his school and girls loved him. He only hated one person, the guy who always outdid him and rubbed it in. They'd been friends, but after my brother failed to get into the university he worked hard to test into and his friend got in, his jealousy became overwhelming.
He cut ties, and he spread rumors that hurt his friend's reputation. Now, people thought his friend was dangerous, and he only added to the fire with a bold, alternative look. He had it out for my brother, too. They'd been in several fights, all of which added to his bad-boy image and my brother's victim complex. I heard most of this through rumors, since I'd just moved back in with my brother and dad. That's also why my boyfriend hasn't discovered my secret.
My brother is a challenge. Every night, I would whisk past his room to avoid him seeing where I was going. I would hide to make sure he couldn't follow me. Tonight was no different.
He knew I was sneaking out when I didn't have classes or work. I know that he'll catch me and follow me one day, and that everything will be over. My lover will know that I'm the sister of his rival and the person who is trying to ruin his life, and my brother will know I'm the lover of his enemy.
