Having rested enough I figure its time to head outside. Walking downstairs I exit the house, looking upwards I no longer see the sun but a beautiful green moon.
Its rays arent bright so the street is swallowed by darkness.
Some people may fear the night, whether it be due to horror stories they've heard growing up or just hate the inconviniance that darkness brings.
I myself have always enjoyed the night, its peaceful. Subconsciously I close my eyes as a content smile slowly forms.
Lucas would be surprised if he were to see himself, his body has started fading as his figure becomes a shadow, making him blend into the night.
This unique phenomenon only applies to those who have the highest affinity with certain elements.
In this case it would seem Lucas has the highest affinity with the dark element.
Feeling danger, I force open my eyes and jump backwards. I fall to the floor as I roll a couple times, dirtying my white robe.
Seeing a large horse drawn carriage speed by the spot I was just standing in, I cant help but curse under my breath.
"Are you blind? cant you see a person standing here?" I shout, but the carriage had travelled too far away for anyone inside to hear me.
Frowning, I feel something isn't right. Although this worlds laws aren't enforced due to life being valued differently from person to person, but killing someone in the streets so brazenly absolutely isn't allowed.
"Strange" I create a model of my body and replay its actions for the past dozen seconds.
Something intriguing starts to happen as my model slowly changes, it turns from a human into a shadowy entity as it fades into the darkness.
"Elemental fusion?" I mutter as I scroll through my memories. Elemental fusion only applies to those who have 100% affinity with a certain element.
The higher your elemental affinity the stronger your attacks and the easier it is to understand its concepts when using that particular element.
I recall this ex host only having 20% fire elemental affinity.
"So the soul determines your elemental affinities, After passing through, my own darkness affinity came alongside me?"
"The darkness affinity is one of the Four peak elements, alongside light, space and time"
"But this isn't good" I'm slightly disturbed after learning my elemental affinity.
"I can't let it leak out that my elemental affinity is darkness otherwise I could get killed" Next to the blue feather kingdom is an empire called the holy nation.
The holy nation are a bunch of nutcases who are determined to wipeout all evil within the world.
They don't have a religion per say, but they have a collective body called the paladin council.
Everyone within the council and those they rule call themselves paladins, they hate being associated alongside other cultivators due to thinking that cultivators are innately evil.
Although the holy nation doesn't like cultivators, they don't dare to start a war with the cultivator world, only attacking and occupying the weaker influences.
There is an exception to this, The holy nation detains and even kills all of those who have the darkness affinity no matter their talent or background.
Due to the nature of the dark element, its variant elements are death and massacre. The majority of the Well-known Evil cultivators are those with the darkness element, making it frowned upon by the masses.
Unluckily, the blue feather kingdom borders the colossus holy nation and is unable to resist its pressure so it has allowed quite a few Temples to be built across the kingdom, they are called the Temple of light.
They find people who have affinity with light and "Send them to be educated at the main Temple" before officially becoming paladins.
The Paladin Council has a secret method to forcefully awaken the light element of a cultivator.
Having the light element awakened, they would also have their own elemental affinity, making them dual affinity cultivators, this makes them stronger than their peers within the same realm.
Outwardly the goal of the paladins is cleansing the world of evil, but its an open secret that the cultivation technique of the paladins needs the sin of evil to cultivate.
Every time they kill someone evil, they absorb their sins, purify the energy before absorbing it as their own.
Due to this, they don't need a lot of effort to cultivate while only using minimum resources, they can mass produce paladins.
The more they purify evil the faster they can cultivate.
This is especially so for cultivators with the darkness element, just Killing and absorbing someone with the darkness affinity will make their own cultivation speed skyrocket, its like a delicious tonic.
Light and darkness, forever fighting. The darkness can absorb the light, while the light brightens up the dark.
No one element is superior to the other in terms of strength, but unfortunately the light element gains the advantage of public opinion so the dark can only hide in plain sight.
"Sigh" putting on a wry smile I continue walking, as long as I don't reveal my affinity I wont be found, or at least buy time to gain some strength for self preservation.
I follow the route to the library within my memories. I had bought all my books there before, I'm also on good terms with the shop keeper, he's an honest old man with a gentle look.
While I'm travelling I experience the city for the first time, although I have the memories its different seeing it in person.
The street is smooth and clean, bins and benches can be seen from time to time while the closer I get to the east city centre, the more outstanding the houses become.
They're made of exquisite stone, finished with a polish. The gardens and fences are kept in top condition, the flowers and statues inside some of the gardens are especially pleasing to the eye.
"But not many people are out, I guess most are sleeping at this time" I notice the lack of people, plenty of rumors go around about murders and assassins roaming around at midnight, even Lucas was afraid to stroll the city at night.
I've seen some guard patrols on the way, they would look my way and stare as I walk past them.
They would narrow their eyes as they watch me suspiciously before moving on. I don't know if its just coincidence but the closer I get to my destination the more guards can be seen patrolling the area.
I only put a little thought into it and think of two reasons as I don't have enough information.
There is two possibilities, its coincidence or this area is dangerous! perhaps a criminals den is located around here.
I don't think anymore on the matter, due to my darkness affinity I feel safe within the darkness. It makes me calm and worry free.
I had strolled along as I wanted to take in the cities scenery, It had taken me 30 minutes but I've finally reach my destination.
The Oldman is one of the few people who would keep open his shop through the night.
Its not a big shop, being only two stories high. The sign outside looks to be made of high quality oak, its got a book and quill carved into it.
The name of the shop is painted above the entrance.
"Fu's Books" is the name of the shop.
