Chapter 35 - Chapter 9: The Ignorance

Daisy Dyer's POV

I was looking at the clock before I was knocking on Ella's room. I know that she has the tour at 8 AM but it would not hurt to raise her early.

"Ella! Wake up. Time to get ready," I said as I was knocking on the door before I went to the kitchen as I was preparing for breakfast. Since I have been living on the ranch my whole life, I have known how to make some dishes. Not to brag but I can go by to make meals for 20 people.

"Why are you being so noisy in the morning?" Ella said as she was yawning before she went to the sink and washed her face. I laughed at her before I was putting the meal on the table.

"Come, I made breakfast," I said as I was setting the omelet and sausages on the table. I poured the orange juice into the glasses before Ella's eyes widened.

"Well, I never knew that you can cook, Ms. Dyer," she said as I smiled cheekily at her.

"Not every day I'm willing to cook except when we were on the ranch. But since you're my best friend, I am willing to make an exception," I said as Ella was shaking her head.

"I am honored then," she said before we were eating our meals. Ella was scooping some omelet into her mouth before she moaned.

"You don't tell me that it was that good!" She exclaimed as I laughed at her eagerness to fill in her mouth with more.

"Well, not that I wanted to toot my own horn here but you did not taste anything that I cooked at the ranch yet," I said before I was sipping on the orange juice.

"What time is it?"

"Almost 7 AM, why?" I asked her before she was scooping some more food and she was drinking the juice in a rather hurried fashion.

"I have to get to the campus at 8 AM sharp. I cannot waste any more time," she said as she was scooping some more before I think that she might choke on the food.

"You know I can drive there if you want," I offered again as Ella has refused it last night. Maybe she would reconsider but she shook her head.

"No need, I will go there by myself. Thank you for the offer though," she said before she was running to her bedroom and getting ready for a shower. I shook my head before I was sipping on the orange juice and I was eating my breakfast wholeheartedly.

Later, Ella was hugging me before she went out on her journey. I was looking at the clock before I saw that it was only 9 AM. I sighed before I was cleaning up some of the apartment stuff that I don't like.

I have labs in the afternoon before I have to make a stop at my laboratory. I just hoped that Dylan Windell was not there. I sighed before I was looking at the papers that my father claimed he wrote.

I don't know what to believe now!Should I believe that my father was stealing something from his best friend and took the fame and the glory that came with it? Should I do some investigation for it? I can ask aunt Milly if I want to but I don't want her to think that I have some problem now when I was close to discovering what was the real truth.

I sighed.

It looked like I have to continue my researches and maybe proved to Dylan Windell that my father did not steal his father's work and fame. If he did, I think I will withdraw from this and maybe have a peaceful life back at the ranch.

I smiled before I was looking at the picture that I have in my purse. Aunt Milly asked me to keep it before anything happened to it. You need to remember who you are, she said as she gave me the photo.

It was my last family photo when my parents were still alive. I was smiling before a few drops of tears were dropping onto the photo. I was smiling in this picture as my mother was holding me and my father was standing beside us.

We were smiling as it was before the time that they went out and before all it happened…

I wiped my tears away before I was putting the picture down and I was breathing hard.

Don't be such a cry baby, Dyer. You are stronger than this, I said as I was standing up and I went to prepare for my lab as I wanted to stop by my office and got the papers that I needed to give to the students.

I sighed before I went to pick the bag and headed out of the door. I locked the door as I texted Ella if she finished and had come home, I have the keys in the pot. She knew how to find it. Then, I was off to campus.

The ride was solemn as I was looking at the city passing by. I was listening to my music as the morning was starting to shine with its rays. I smiled as I was gazing into the sun. it was nice weather.

If only my day was like this.

I have been to the office and I have some organization on my papers. Thankfully, I don't share my office with Windell since his research was more towards physics so he was in the physics department for his office location.

I was thankful for that.

I was looking at the lab that I will be giving to my undergrads before I was smiling as I was taking some notes for the answers and I have done the presentation that I will be giving to the students as well.

What a day!

I looked at the clock and it was noon How time flies. I don't even feel like I was doing much of the stuff but the time was going by so fast. I stood up before I stretched. It was good to be walking again.

I smiled before I was looking outside the office. I think I might get some of the beef pho that Barb liked so much. I should give it a try then.

I went to the cafeteria and I was alone again. Not that I was not used to it but I kind of like the serenity that it gave me. I was smiling before I was eating my pho because my lab will be starting in an hour.

After my lunch, I went back to my office and I was taking the labs that I will be distributed to the students. I smiled before I went to the designated lab for my Paleoclimate lab. I looked at the students that I will be teaching for this semester. I was happy but also nervous.

I put up my slide and I was looking at the student before I smiled and I was waiting for the time to get started. Ten minutes later, the clock was at 1:10 PM. Time to get busy.

"Well, hello guys and welcome to Paleoclimate 101. My name is Daisy Dyer, I am a third-year Ph.D. student and for the next semester, I will be your TA for this class. If you have any concern or anything to talk about the lab or Paleoclimate in general, feel free to contact me via email or stop by for during my office hour,"

"My office will be in the Geology department, room 1302 on the first floor and I will be seeing you guys throughout the semester. Now, let's get started, shall we?" I said as I was passing the lab around and I was happy to know that I will be free of that overwhelming Dylan Windell and his accusation during this time.

Once my lab was over, which was 3 hours, I went to my office to put my stuff before I was heading out to the laboratory to check on my progress. I don't have time to work on the new mass calculation and chemical reaction today as I was busy with my labs

Tomorrow, I will get to that.

I unlocked the door of the lab as it will be automatically locked when we closed it. Dylan and I both have our key. I was unlocking the door before I went inside and thankfully, the lab was empty as the lights were out.

I switched it on before I went to my table that was on the other side of the lab from Dylan. I don't think that he was putting this on purpose, right? I mean, if he just accused me that my father was stealing his father's work, maybe he would have moved out of the lab 2 years ago.

I shook my head before I was putting on my stuff on the table as I was making my way to organize my stuff for the experiment the next day. I was also thinking of what I should get for dinner tonight.

"Look who's come back for more," I closed my eyes when I heard the door closed and sighed. I was not in the mood to be with him in the same room, let alone talk with him. So, I did what I did best.

I ignored him.

I was doing my own business like nobody's care before he was putting the papers on my table. I turned to look at him as he was smirking.

"You know this will never be passing through the scientific board review. So I suggest you do something else other than stealing someone's work as well," he said as I was narrowing my eyes at him.

Nope, not this time around.

"Listen here, mister," I said as I was stepping closer to him as I was pointing my hands at his chest, "I don't know where you get the notion that my father was stealing your work and if he did, the scientific community will know, so if you still have a problem with that, why don't you show it to the jurisdiction so that this thing will be clear for once and all," I said as I was breathing hard before I was getting away from him. It was too overwhelming.

As I was walking to the door because I cannot work with him around me, I was determined to finish it tomorrow morning, something that he said was punching through me.

"Like father, like daughter," he said.

Then, all hell broke loose.
