Dylan Windell's POV
After I was out of the meeting and the unfortunate event of sharing my lab with a newcomer, I went to the house. It has been nothing but a place for me to sleep, eat, and work. I sighed as I was leaning against the chair before I was looking at the journal that I have in front of me.
I was thinking to let it sit in the library but I was intrigued to see what my father was writing about in it. So, I picked up the journal and I went to read it.
January 1,
The new chemical composition in the meteorite will be the discovery of the scientific community. I will be showing this information with my great friend, Jayson. I was happy to know that he would always be there to support me and I am thankful to be with him here.
I will be talking this discovery to my advisor as well and I hope that he would see this information like how my best friend described it to me: Intriguing!
I was happy to be a part of the Geology department at NYU and I hope that my name will be carried to the next generation and maybe, my sons will know it as well.
January 25,
I have conducted the experiment that showing it was indeed a new element as it was not responding like the ones that they have found and named. I have done it for a thousand time and I was certain that I will be doing this for a thousand more to show that I did not have any miscalculation.
I was happy to see that Jayson was helping me with the experiment. I was thankful for him to be supportive of me and I was relieved that his wife was not mad at him. She was due for another month, so I think we might be done by then.
I will show to the world that I am the one that discovered this and my name will be in the scientific journal after this. By then, my sons will be proud of me.
I was rubbing my hands as I was closing the journal. My father has discovered something in the meteorite that I was experimenting with as well. Maybe, just maybe, I will have some answers to it and I can conduct it as my father would.
I was looking at the clock and it was 8 PM. I need to get some rest as tomorrow will be another day at the lab. And this time, I will be sharing it with one Daisy Dyer. I smirked as I was shaking my head at the name.
I think I will be a handful after this.
I was going to the dining table as it has been served for me. Maxwell and Carol have moved out of the house, so It was just me and some of the servants that my uncle maintained for the house. I was happy that I don't have to take care of the family business but later on, I think I might have to do it as well.
I sighed as I was looking at the menu for today. It was Mexican Tacos and salsa. There is some stew as well but I don't know what it was. Some tortillas and enchiladas as well. I smiled before I took my seat and I ate my dinner. This will keep me full for tonight.
I wondered what we will be eating at Aunt Mia's house for family dinner.
Daisy Dyer's POV
I was staring at the bare apartment that my aunt got for me. I don't know how she got it but I was not the one to question it. I was looking around before I was sighing. I put my luggage down as I went to check the apartment.
It was a bedroom apartment and I was happy that Aunt Milly will be doing all the payment for the rental and all that shit. I was not responsible enough to do it myself. Also, the landlady was scary as shit.
I was looking at the bare bedroom without anything and the bathroom. I think I might get some supplements as well. I need to make sure the water and electricity were working. I sighed before I was looking at the kitchen.
The fridge was working well but the kitchen was bare. Only the stove, oven, and microwave were on the counter. I sighed. I might as well tell Aunt Milly to give me some extra allowance for me this month to start up my work.
I also had filled in the TA position at the campus. I hoped I will get chosen to look over one of the labs of Paleoclimate. And I hope that Lucia helped me to get it as well. As I was busy to make some plans for tomorrow, the bell rang.
I looked at the clock. It was 8 PM and I don't know anyone in this city yet. I was wondering who could it be. I went to the door and when I opened the door, I was surprised to see my best friends, Lea and Barbara were standing in front of my apartment.
"Oh my gosh! What in the world? How do you guys know that I am here?" I asked them as I was hugging them. I was happy over the moon before I invited them in and I was looking at them.
"We brought rosé. I hope you like it," Barbara said as she was showing me the wine. I was laughing before I was taking it and we went to the kitchen. Then I remembered.
"Oh shoot, I don't have anything in here. I don't think that this apartment will be empty," I said as I was looking at the girls. They were glancing at each other before they took my hands and we were out of the apartment.
"Now that we know your issue,'' Lea said as she was smiling at Barb.
"Might as well get some take out for dinner," Barb commented as we were inside the car and Lea drove to the city.
"But—"
"No worries. We know all the hot spots for cheap things. We have been waiting for this moment to know that one of you guys will be joining us. I just hope Ella will be coming soon," Barb said as Lea was driving through the traffic and we were parked in front of the Bed, Bath, and Beyond.
"I thought we were going to shop cheap?" I asked them as they laughed.
"Well, this is it,"
"I was thinking more of Thrift store if you don't mind," I said as Barb was waving her hand dismissively.
"Oh honey, no one wants to wear someone else's when you were going to stay in the city long. I tell you, this investment will help you later in life. Trust me," Barb said as we were inside the store and we shopped until we dropped.
Like literally because I was picking a mattress and the three of us were not strong enough to pick it up until the workers helped us. We were embarrassed but when Barb was around, it was much less awkward as she was explaining to them.
After that shopping, we went to this Chinese restaurant that Lea suggested and we went to take out for our dinner. I was looking at the menu as I don't know what to choose. I never had Chinese before.
"What are you getting?" Lea asked me as I was putting the menu down. I shrugged before I told her to get me what was best for a beginner like me.
"I got just the thing," Barb said before Lea was slapping her hand playfully.
"Barb, I don't think,"
"Oh, it's fine. Besides, Daisy can take it," she replied as I was looking at them before they were ordering for me. It was Orange Chicken with Fried rice.
"Spiciness?" The cashier asked.
"3,"
"5," Lea and Barb said simultaneously. They looked at each other before I cleared my throat.
"4 would be fine, thank you," I said as the cashier was putting the order down and calculated the price.
"That would be $39.58," the cashier said as I pulled out my card. My friends stopped me.
"It's alright. My treat, as a thank you for helping me out tonight," I said to them before I paid for our meals and waited 20 minutes for the order to complete. Then, we headed to my apartment.
"I have to tell you, that is the best Chinese food I ever taste," I said as I was putting the container down as I took a sip from the wine that they brought. We got most of the items for my bathroom, bedroom, and some cutleries for me to cook.
"I know, right? Silas showed to me," Lea said as Barbara was rolling her eyes at Lea.
"You still going out with that guy? I heard he was a groper,'' Barb hissed at Lea before she dismissed Barb.
"No, he was a complete gentleman," Lea defended him. I was hearing the conversation as I was sipping on the wine.
"Wait until you learn the truth about him. Believe me, you would not like it. So you might as well make a run for it," Barb said before they were yawning. I looked at the clock and it was 11:30 PM.
"I think it would be best for you guys to be sleepover for the night. Let me get the duvet for you guys," I said as I went to get the new duvet before I was spreading and we were settling on it.
"This is nice," Lea said as she was yawning again.
"I missed you guys, I hope Ella was with us," Barb said before I laughed.
"Me too. I hope we will be here next Christmas," I said as I was looking at the ceiling before I was closing my eyes.
