Chapter 21 - Battle Lines (II): Making Enemies

CASSIE

School life has been somewhat dull and monotonous, but that was not entirely true. It was also exciting, and the chance to learn from the best of the best was a blessing in and out of itself. Anyway, even though we've all settled into a sort of routine, there was always one thing or the other that could drag the attention of the students, and today we were all going swimming in the lake, at midnight, after we've all been warned that swimming in said lake was a very bad idea. But what can I say, kids will be kids.

So far my Warband has been getting along quite well, we've not had a lot of time to train and spar amongst ourselves, but that's okay, we've been having enough training as it is with our school work, and we all felt it would be better to push any sort of team training back, until the moment when it's required. For now though we just contented ourselves with being students, and having fun.

"Make way for the Star King Warband! Make way you weaklings!"

By this point I think it should be known that it wouldn't be a story of kids in a school if there wasn't a bully around, or at least one of them. Aramis Lockheart, aka the Star King. The only person with a warband to rival mine, and as such he has the greatest influence within the students aside from me. Aramis belongs to a race of faeries called the Seelies. The thing is if he was just a fairy then there wouldn't have been that much of a problem; he was also an Orcish demigod.

Without a doubt, the magical talent of a fairy, especially the illusion skills of the Seelies and the brute strength and battle capabilities of the orcs all crammed into one body made one hell of a combination.

Aramis was strong, terribly so, but not just that, his war band had some of the deadliest fighters in our entire batch of students. So he was more than enough competition for me, however for some reason he really loved picking on Mike and Max.

As if to prove the legitimacy of my thoughts, Aramis and his war band made their way to the area of the lake where Mike, Max and lily were busy focusing on some sort of blueprint. They pretended as if they couldn't see him standing in front of them though, and I knew for a fact that Aramis hated that with a passion. He was someone who loved being the center of attention, he had the looks, the body and the power and the pedigree to command such respect. He was father, and orc god of war called Grolix Lockheart was one of the major gods in league with the dragon kings, and as if that wasn't enough, he was a major god from the fifth layer dimension, and Mike was pushing his buttons.

"Well what do we have here?" Raes; Aramis's second in command spoke up as he snatched the blueprint out of their hands, bringing it straight to Aramis like a loyal lapdog.

"Hey jerks! Don't you idiots have something else to do than to bother us?"

Lily shouted as she stood back up to her feet, squaring up to Raes whose icy blue hair seemed to be glinting under the moonlight.

All of a sudden the temperature around the lake seemed to drop a few hundred degrees as Raes had a dangerous glint in his eyes. This was a provocation on his part, he was looking for a fight, and Lily was playing right into his game.

"Back the hell away from me, or I'll be freezing your blood solid before you can say sorry."

Lily's reply to that was to pull out a gun from god knows where and point it straight at Raes's head, her eye furrowed and fingers around the trigger, ready to squeeze it at the slightest provocation.

The look in Raes's eyes seemed to falter a bit before falling back into the same threatening look he had shown a second ago. He smiled before pointing behind Lily, showing her a scene of five ten inch icicles pointed straight at the heads of a very relaxed looking Mike and a red eyed Max who seemed ready to rip Raes to shreds.

"You might be the daughter of a dragon king, and known as a fearsome fighter, you can definitely put up a fight against me, but what about the weaklings behind you. Can you protect them from me?" Raes asked his pearly white teeth exposed in a malevolent grin.

All of a sudden the temperature around the lake seemed to heat up. Already one part of the lake was partly frozen and covered with frost due to Raes taking action and utilizing his ability to manipulate ice. But now one part of the lake was boiling, and I was standing up with my spear clutched tightly in my right hand glowing red, while my left hand had a fiery rune beginning to take shape on it.

"You should watch what you say Raes, compared to those weaklings, you're nobody." I said to him with my blood already boiling and itching for a fight.

"Would you look at that, your sister is fighting your battles. You're not just weak, but you're also pathetic. A man hiding behind the skirt of a woman, you disgust me in ways I can't even begin to explain Michael. What do you have to say for yourself?"

Grolix finally said something, but instead of replying me, he just went straight to Michael. Obviously he knew there was no way he would win in a war of words with me, and it was much too early for him to be showing his cards in an impromptu battle by the lake. He might be a bit brutish, but he's definitely not stupid. So rather than face him, he went straight for my brother, and with the words he used he was aiming for Michael's pride. However Grolix was barking up the wrong tree, Mike might not be really powerful, but he has a mind that's next to none.

"Are you retarded or something? It takes great skill for a man to hide behind a woman's skirt. In that regard we can all agree I'm better than you. And besides I'm blind, how can a blind man fight? Are you so shameless and utterly ball less that you would pick on a poor blind kid, what would your mother say? You're such a mean bully that my sweet sister had to rise up to the defense of poor old me, shame on you?"

Everyone here knew Mike was playing games with Grolix, this was the first time he was displaying this side of himself to other people, and I'm sure they will all remember it for a good while to come. But he should keep me out of his games before I break his jaw, it's obvious he was also throwing shade at me for being a hypocrite, and maybe he was right. But I couldn't stop myself; I was already up on my feet and fighting for him before I knew it.

Mike got up from where he was sitting by the river bank and walked over to Lily, and then he pulled down her hand with the pistol pointing at Raes. Then he tapped Raes a few times on the shoulder before walking towards Grolix and standing in front of him before opening his mouth to speak, and this time the tone of voice he used was downright chilling.

"Grolix I've been ignoring your bullshit for the better part of a week and the half. Don't think I'm someone you can walk all over on. So if you want a fight, a real fight!, then brother bring it the fuck on!"
