It was a normal morning for Isaac Shaw, it was the 24th of October and it was his birthday but he had an off feeling ever since he woke up. He walked downstairs and found his dad making blueberry muffins it was tradition for the both of them ever since Mom had passed. Blueberry muffins were his favorite and his dad tried to make them every birthday as a little reminder that mom was still with them.
"Ok son, make a wish" he had just set the muffins on a saucer and stuck a candle on one of them. Isaac blowed and made a mental wish, 'I wish everything was different and we had more.' Truthfully they were hanging by a thread, the mortgage was up and the banks had given an ultimatum, his scholarship had fallen through because they could not make up the 25% left, ever since mom died and his dad lost his job there had always been a hidden danger looming.
"Care to tell me what you wished for" he smiled with his hands behind him while asking. "Dad, you know I can't tell you that, hey how was the interview yesterday did they like your presentation" he had hoped for a bit of good news as this was their last strand of hope if they were ever coming out of debt. "They liked it and instantly hired me" Isaac was ecstatic "Why didn't you tell me?", "Well when I came home yesterday you were fast asleep, thanks for dinner it was delicious, and another bit of good news" Isaac was already past that and hurriedly asked "What? What good news?" his dad knew suspense wouldn't help so he answered him, "They liked the presentation so much they made a down payment of 30% which came up to $80,000, next payment will be made in 3 weeks" "Wow, dad that huge" "It's not really a big project but they promised if I deliver, another big one will be handed to me and that's in millions", Isaac couldn't be put down "We'll get it done dad, am sure of it and we'll get the big one".
His father brought out a bag from under the table and passed it to him "Happy birthday son" it had been a while since he got gifts so he hadn't expected any so he was truly surprised, "You didn't have to dad" "Oh so I can return it back to the store, thanks heavens I kept the receipt", to Isaac dragged the bag away from him "I didn't mean that" they both laughed as he tore open the gift, it surprisingly was the new launched MMORPG Guts and Glory, he wanted it but he knew his boundaries, he knew it cost a lot and so he never requested for such, "Dad how did you..." "I saw the look in your eyes when we passed by the store last week and I knew you wanted it..." before he could finish Isaac had flung himself from the seat and into his arms and whispered "Thanks dad" "Anything for you son, now go on and play I know you want to, don't worry I'll clear the table and do the dishes, Happy birthday once more" Isaac was already headed to his room and shouted back "Thanks dad".
