Chapter 85 - Meaningless Negotiations

"I knew you'd come, especially when it's a masquerade," Aurelius spoke with a smug look, smiling like he caught someone in hide and seek.

"Pardon?" What is this?

"What's going on?" Shin walked up to Aurelius, Fay in hand, but a guard stopped him before he got too close.

"I didn't know you had human friends, commander,"

Can people stop saying I'm a commander now? That was a whole 3 weeks ag- it was only 3 weeks ago? My internal clock is out of wack...

"I'm afraid you're mistaken your highness, now we have to-"

"There isn't a doubt in my mind you're a demon, Crimson Vil Damone." The boy cut me off.

Vil Damone? I did not make that up, who the hell gave me that title?

I glanced at where Damon was only to find him escorted by the guard dressed identically somewhere.

"I am as human as everyone else here, your highness and I am a human in a hurry to leave," I lowered my head and walked backwards to feel something spiking pointing at my back.

"If you'd come with me, commander," The boy gestured for me to go back.

"I am no commande-"

"Red hair with a white gradient, crimson eyes that burn brighter than any flame, a black mask fitting of a reaper and finally an inability to lie wholeheartedly, that is your description of her correct, Lord Phelix?" Aurelius looked through me, to the person pointing a sword at me.

"I'm not a commander," I bent my back further to get away from the point and looked at Phelix upside down.

"There is absolutely no point in lying, Crimson," Felix's aura burnt even brighter.

"Too bad I'm not. I wouldn't be able to lie that convincingly. You already got the second in command with you. Lord Damon's the commander and I have nothing to do with this anymore. Just a starving lady wanting free food. I have no army to lead so with that being said, ciao," I lower my head to Aurelius again and took a single step before a shiny blade swung to stop inches away from my neck.

"You seem to be in a hurry. I believe fighting Phelix would take longer than hearing me out," Aurelius said with certainty. The annoying thing is that he's right. I feel bad for the kid, but he sure knows how to annoy me right now.

"I command no army. What do you want?"

Felix moved his sword a little closer to my neck, practically touching it, "You, yourself is more than any army. We only ask for you to hear us out,"

Sighing, I rolled my eyes, "Let's get this over with,"

I started following Aurelius with the point of a sword still on my back like I'm some sort of prisoner.

Hospitality much?

"Hey wait for just a second!" Shin broke his attempt to be a calm and quiet person that doesn't ask questions. To be honest, though, I don't mind it this time. Placing his hand on my shoulder, Felix's sword brushed it off.

"Humans shouldn't risk touching demons like her," He said without any attempt in hiding his disgust when he uttered it.

What's wrong with demons anyways? They have such a bad reputation. I mean geez fantasy racist much? Demons made you an orphan or something?

"Take Fay and leave, you'll only drag me down," I couldn't look him in the eyes and say that though... so I looked away. Shin might be irritating, but what did to him isn't gonna be forgotten anytime soon, being overtly mean to him makes me feel even more guilty.

"You're not telling me what to do right now, Am-"

"Shut up Kirito-kun, come back when you're a main character," Don't say my name you idiot, he doesn't know...

"I'm going with her," Shin stared at Felix, but Felix only responded with an 'if you die, I told you so' shrug.

We walked past the main ballroom before Aurelius dismissed all the guards except Felix and lead us into a secluded hallway with a view of a garden similar to the one Misa found in the lower layers of the city. An indoor waterfall ran into a stream flowing down to a section I couldn't see.

Aurelius walked us to the waterfall and with a snap of a finger, the water curtain opened to reveal a smaller hallway, still decorated with gold and candle lighting every corner.
