Chapter 1 - Prologue: Days w/o Zero_

Ash is holding something in his hand, he leans against the window in his room, another hand holding a cigarette within his fingers. The smoke fumigates into the air, while the dense smell suffuses within his room, slowly dissipating along the hands of the clock ticks.

He stares into the shabby notebook in his hand, an old photo slips out and falls onto his bed. He quickly picks it up.

In the old photo, five of the FBI agents smile resplendently in their uniforms, disseminating an ambiance of a family with joy and warmth.

Ash flips the old photo around, there's a long sentence written at the back of it.

"If we had expected the twist in the ending, perhaps we won't choose to cherish each other since the very beginning. Are you like me? "

By the time Ash reads till the end, the photo burns down quietly, it turns into fragments and ashes, slowly vanishing in his palm.

Ash then looks up into the sky, he sees the sun burning bright, a face appears in it.

That is the face of one of the squad members from the old photo. She was a beautiful lady, and reliable squad commander of theirs.

"I can't always be guarded by you." she said, "I am your leader, it is time for me to protect you."

By the end of her speech, the sun burns vigorously, her face burns into ashes and disappears into the sky.

"Zero! No! Come back... Zero!"

Ash yelled at the sky, he then jumps out from the window and falls across the edge of the frame.

It is the twenty-first floor he's staying at, and now he has jumped off. He falls for a very long moment before he hits the ground.

"Ah! "

By the moment he hits the ground, he wakes up. It is at this moment when he found himself falling off his bed onto the floor, holding the shabby notebook in his sleep.

The curtains sway gently in the breezing wind and fall back lightly against the windows. The morning sunlight penetrates through the windows and shines onto his bedroom floor.

Ash sits up from the floor and looks up into the sky.

"Another day has begun... without you, Zero."
