Chapter 8 - Chapter 7 Come Fly with me

Apparently, my newly resurrected friend has learned to use his wings.

As Kalis flew above the trees doing loop de loops, I was stuck walking. Woe is me a pigeon who can fly.

"Hey, hey Soros. You should try to fly sometime, it's actually pretty fun. Who knew birds could get to do something so awesome!" Kalis said as he began to descend next to me.

"Well if you remember how we first met, you'd know I don't know how to fly" I say flatly.

"Oh yeah. Why is that?" he said looking at me bewildered.

"Well I wasn't always a bird, I think I was human before coming here" I replied.

"Strange, anyways, want me to teach you how to fly before we get to where we're going. By the way where are we going" Kalis asked.

"Sure I'd want to learn to fly one day, but about where we're going, I..... have no idea" I said whispering that last part.

Suddenly slithering in front of me and blocking my path, Kalis had a stern look on his face.

"What do you mean you don't know, do you mean to tell me we've been travelling aimlessly for the last day!?" he said flailing his wings in the air like a mad snake.

"Sort of.... I guess? I mean I'm just following my gut so to speak. My beak is sort of pulling me this way"

I shrug casually.

Putting his wings together in front of him and breathing in deeply, he uttered one word at me "Boi!"

"Hey at least that's something, both of us know nothing of what's outside this forest, so at least my beak's a start" I say continuing to walk forward.

Just as I spoke these words we were both suddenly pinned on the ground. A mesh of wires surrounding us.

As I push the net around us we hear a laughter emanate from above.

"Ho ho ho, what have we here, a snake and an eru not in the snake's belly, what a surprise. If you won't eat him well I will" the man said smacking his lips and licking them as he raised us into a dingy cage.

The cage was so small that as soon as I got in I hit my head and immediately passed out.

------------------------------------

"Hey, you, you're finally awake. You were trying to cross the border, right?" I heard slowly waking up.

Standing up I almost immediately fell. My head was throbbing. Rubbing the spot that kept on ringing like a

bell on Sunday.

Finally standing up, I notice I was on a cage on a moving cart. Looking around I see a few more cages.

Peering out of my own imprisonment, I find that every cage had different animals ranging from the smallest bird to one cage that held a predator similar to the one we fought.

"Yoohoo, over here" I hear in front of me, as I look in said direction, I'm surprised to see another eru equally trapped.

"Oh thank goodness, another eru! Where the heck are we?" I ask rattling the cage bars.

"Where do you think. On a one way ticket into a stew where else man, at least we're not in the belly of a snake" the eru said in a tone of defeat.

Suddenly remembering I had a friend with me "Kalis!" I suddenly blurted out.

"If you're looking for your friend he's probably stuck in another cage like this one. You'll probably get to meet him just before we get cooking on an open fire" the eru said sarcastically.

"We have to find a way out of here, I have to find Kalis" I said shaking the bars once more.

"It's no use, these bars are to hard for us, not even my illusions could bend one" said with a hint of despair.

But I heard something strange with what he said.

"Illusions?" I ask craning my head towards him.

"Yeah, illusions, the kind every chick gets taught once we learn to fly" he replied a matter of factly

Biting my beak, I hold back a reply.

"We have to get out of here, I....whoa!" I exclaimed as the car we were riding on suddenly lurched and jumped, our cages almost falling of. Peering over the cart's edge I find we were on a narrow

"Ohohohoh, just a few more potholes and we'll be out of this joint, thanks Esir for getting our "roadwork" approved" the eru said enthusiastically.

With another lurch our cages finally flung themslves

off the cart and we fell onto the grass at the side of the road.

The cages' fall was rough but I at least wasn't hurt more than before. The eru I was talking to had probably cushioned his fall with something, I don't know what, but he came out looking fine. Better than me at least.

"Glad to be finally out of that hell hole, when I get back, the council better give me a raise" he said stretching his limbs as if readying for a jog.

As the eru began to flap and rise above the ground "Wait!" I scream.

"Shhhhh, not to loud or else the humans'll hear us!" he said akin to scolding a child.

"Wait we have to free the others. We can't just leave them there to die, or worse, and we have to get Kalis" I say pleading.

"Firstly we are not to interfere with the actions of other animals lest it be pur job, or so the council says. Secondly I don't really care for other animals aside from eru. So go ahead and try to "save" them, maybe become a martyr. So good bye and see ya around" and with that the stranger flew off the ground in a rush of air.

Turning back to the cart, I see that it had stopped and the humans were getting off, and I began to return to my former prison just to save my former captor.
