Chereads / Sweet Cafe / Chapter 100 - Afterglow

Chapter 100 - Afterglow

Long hugs, deep looks, and sweet kisses, that's how Killian and Selena spent their weekend.

And now that the triplets are back without their parents, the house was louder and messier.

Selena just woke up by the sound of the clasping metal. She was on her bed while Killian left last night to meet with his boss.

With her pajama on, she went downstairs and her jaw fell on the ground to see his cousin Danny in the kitchen with an apron on, standing and looking down on the floor where the half-cooked eggs were spilled.

Her eyebrow rose to see Alexa on the couch laying with her monkey.

(Where did that ape come from?!!!!) She wondered, when they came yesterday, Alexa was alone and she's certain and it would be impossible for her to overlook this kind of animal, its bigger than Alexa.

Head shaking, she turned next to the television and found Leo and Ethan playing video games. Selena looked at the clock to see that there are only thirty minutes left before their class starts and the triplets are still not dressed.

She heard footsteps from behind, she turned and found Louisa in her uniform and bag.

Her face softened, she's only ten but she's acting more mature than her sibling.

"Triplets get your uniform quick!" Selena yelled but no one listened to her.

"Louisa, help me," Selena walked closer to the girl and bent her body to level her face with her.

The girl nodded, took her hands and placed it on her ears.

"Ah!!!"

The screeching scream of Louisa has made everyone in the room to cover their ears, everyone bent with irritation while the ape embraced Alexa tightly.

When Louisa shut her lips, her face went emotionless and strode towards the dining table, picked up an apple and sat on the chair.

Selena slapped a hand on her forehead, wondering how would she survive a day without her auntie.

"Danny, don't you know how to cook?" she asked, walking closer to him.

"No," he replied short, cleaning the spilled eggs on the table.

"Let me make it," she smiled at him, he had an apron on and dark grey shirt under.

"Are we going to open the café?" Danny asked.

She nodded prepared the breakfast and asked Danny to bring the triplets to school while she opens the café.

--

After the triplets left for school, Selena decided to open the café.

It was quiet, she's wondering why no customer is coming.

The café was so peaceful, just like the graveyard, even the street was empty, there were some people she saw earlier that passed through but that's all, even the parlor next to them was not playing their usual loud music.

She signed and filled the shelves with cupcakes, sat on the chair behind the counter and played with her phone.

Killian hadn't called her, he said he will be busy but will definitely call her on his free time.

She lay an elbow on the counter and supported her cheek with her palm, starting to get lazy even though the day hasn't started yet.

Danny left to bring the kids to school, she's unsure why he hasn't come back.

Time passes but no customer came. She groaned in boredom and lowered her face on the counter.

Another hour passed by, Selena wanted to cry with boredom, she tried to call barney but he seemed to be in the crime scene based on the background noise she heard.

With no one to talk too, Selena raised her face and drummed her fingers on the table.

She got up, decided to make cupcakes even though their kitchen was full of it.

Soon, she heard the door opening, she rustled out of the kitchen and found Danny, perplexity registered on his face.

"I think you forgot to flip the sign. It says closed," Danny said, flipped the sign and proceeded to the counter.

Hearing that, Selena's face flattened, lips twitching in awe. Utterly speechless that she had wasted her time for nothing.

Minutes later, the café became busy. Danny and Selena helped each other and when the kids came back from school, they had dinner and call it a night.

--

Three weeks passed, Selena thought the life without her Auntie and Uncle would be hard but miraculously, the kids behave when their older brother is around.

Right now, they were all sitting on the dining quietly, eating all the food that Alexa made.

Seated opposite of Selena was Danny, the man was feeding Louisa with fish but, the girl kept on refusing it.

"Louisa, you need to eat this," Danny insisted.

Louisa shook her head, turned to Selena with eyes slightly wet with tears.

"Eat Louisa, your mother's going to kill us if she comes back and finds out that you didn't eat any meat."

Out of nowhere, Alexa scoffed, "If she's going to come back. It's the only dad that called us she didn't even bother to show up," she said, lips twitching with irritation.

Ethan kicked his sister's feet under the table, slightly glaring at her.

"What?" Alexa barked, "Isn't true? She said we moved here so we can be together and have a normal life and then after some months, poof! she suddenly left with dad. She didn't even call to check on us."

Alexa got up, harshly slammed both hands on the table and leaned forward to Ethan, "At least before, we get to do what we want but now, look, I even need to cook for myself. Aish!" she turned; anger reddened her face.

"I am not going to school!" she yelled and rushed upstairs.

Selena looked at Ethan, she could see the boy's eyes shining in guilt. She heard that the kids didn't know about their mother's situation and as much as she wanted to tell them, her father told her not too.

"Selena," Selena looked at Danny when her name was called.

"Yeah?" she asked.

"I am leaving tonight that must be the reason why Alexa is acting weird. She was fine the last few days, anyway I haven't told her that someone will replace me to look after them."

Selena nodded, wondering who would be his replacement.

She was about to ask who when three figures appeared from the stairs.

Selena smiled as she watched Louisa excitedly rushed to the three-person standing by the stair.
