Back in Seoul.
Korea University, Administration Office.
"Identity card please."
Luna handed the lady behind the desk her card,
"Year?"
"First."
"Current major?"
"Mechanical Engineering."
"What major do you want to change to?"
Luna pursed her lips and as the women's eyes bore into hers, once again she had to shush her heart.
"Business Management and Administration."
She stepped out of the building and the cold wind calmed her nerves. She knew why she was doing this, and that reason was a valid one, but she wouldn't be able to see Haemin in class anymore, business department was on the other side of the university, basically a whole new area.
As she walked to Sajinsul, she recalled her late night conversation with her Grandfather back in Melbourne in front of the fireplace.
When he told her what she had already known, she replied with,
"I should change my major to bussiness management so that Im prepared for it."
Harold raised his eyebrows, kinda taken back by the lack of surprise.
"If you think it'll do you good then by all means, you know I'd never force you to do anything for the company. You're perfect as is."
"Why me though?"
"Well let me start with telling you about how you weren't the only contender for the throne."
"Oh I know, Francis," she counted on her fingers, "Cousin Dean an-"
"Wrong." Harold smirked and sipped his whiskey, "The contenders were you and René. You were one ever since you got into high school early, a genius is naturally a contender. And I had my eyes on René ever since her company went global, she is perfect for it so if you ever refuse she's next in line."
"Oh.." Luna smoothed her skirt, being reminded of René gave her a hollow and uneasy feeling, she felt restless knowing that Francis was the reason behind René leaving the family.
"What about everyone else?" The Piérces were all clever individuals, she was curious to know how she beat them.
"Oh I have the reasons right here," He took out his wallet and from inside it a piece of paper, "I add reasons to it whenever they arise."
Luna tilted her head in confusion.
After clearing his throat he began to read,
"Raymond is too heartless, he fires anyone who makes a mistake, whereas in a bussiness second chances enhance the loyalty in employees which is important for a fully functioning worker body.
Charlize is reckless, she acts before she thinks. Martha has anger issues and also spends money too lavishly. Her husband, gambles. Dean is too greedy, his greed clouds his mind in the face of money and the bussiness is all about money. Drew, also gambles. Bentley is all heart lesser brains. Francis is perfect in every way except he doesn't care for family. Family is the reason this company is surviving. Despite their inadequacies, all of these people are the wheels of this empire. And you will be the driver, the leader."
Closing her eyes for a second she couldn't even imagine the family who had ignored her for five years, accepting her as the new CEO.
"Why me?" Sheasked again, needing to hear a reason other than her genius, she wasn't even sure if that was still there, she hadn't gotten her results for their first exams back yet.
He answered her with patience, "The reason I picked you is that you were blessed with the ability to use your brain and heart both. You're compassionate and clever and even after all you've been through, you've managed to bounce back. That is why."
Luna pressed her lips together and watched the wood crackle in the fireplace.
"Grandpa." She uttered, "Were you aware that Grandma didn't love you back when you married her? Or was it something like, loving her enough for the both of you?"
He gaped, "Okay, ouch. Kid, come on, must you rub it in?"
She laughed, "Oh Im sorry I didnt know it was still a sore subject."
He chuckled, "Your grandma loves me, not as much as she loved her ex-husband but she does. But her regret is stronger and the day she accepts that death must come to all, the way they die is just an excuse, the day the regret diminishes, I'll be her number one. However, till then, yes, I'll love her enough for the both of us."
"That must be hard. I mean we all know that Grandma is difficult to deal with but this.."
"She talks to me more than she talks to anyone else ya know, it's not so bad."
Well shit, she said inwardly, I might never get over Haemin.
As she reached in front of Sajinsul, she took a deep breath and entered, keeping her anticipation to see Haemin, at bay.
