Chereads / Pity Me / Chapter 29 - CHAPTER 28

Chapter 29 - CHAPTER 28

"But why?" Luna asked, her voice small.

"Because I like you, you're transparent and not two-faced." Joy replied matter-of-factly.

Luna kept her happiness at bay and said, "Thank you for the compliment but what I meant was, why would you want to play matchmaker with Haemin's life when he already has a girlfriend?"

"Like I said, I like you and I don't like Ella."

Joy checked her phone and put it aside.

"But Haemin likes her." Luna said dejectedly.

Joy slapped her hands on the table, making Luna jump slightly, and almost breaking her phone in her hand, "Trust me, he doesn't. There's nothing TO like, he's just too nice to break up with her."

Luna pursed her lips at this, should she believe that?

Joy went on heatedly, "She's a stuck up, ignorant and bratty bitch that thinks the world owes her. And I've seen her with Haemin, its like she's being forced to go out with him, she most definitely does not look like someone in love."

"She does sound horrible." Said a guy's voice and it startled both the girls.

A student had been quietly documenting the plants that were next to Luna and neither of them had even noticed him.

Joy rolled her eyes at the intrusion and continued, "So, Iv decided that I will set Haemin up with someone myself. So, are you in?"

"In what?"

"In for getting Haemin to fall in love with you?"

Luna bit her lip,

If Ella really wasn't good to Haemin then it wasn't wrong if she stole him away right?

So, she agreed.

Joy put her hands together, "Then it's settled. I'll have the plan finalized by tomorrow."

Luna gave her a tight lipped smile, still hesitant in deciding wether she should be excited or not.

"You're not in the cafeteria right now because you don't have money right?" Joy asked.

Luna commented in her mind on how fast Joy was and nodded slowly.

"I handed my phone and wallet to my butler before the party."

"Yeah, I noticed this morning when I gave you the outfit, and ps baby blue is totally your color, you should wear pastels more often."

Luna smiled and shyly rubbed her sleeve,

She herself liked the light colored crop top sweater Joy had kindly lent her.

"You keep it, and come, I'll pay for you." Joy hopped off the table and Luna walked besides her.

"Although, Haemin would've more than gladly bought you lunch." Joy said as she matched her pace with Luna who was gradually getting used to the crutches.

"Yeah, but, I dont want to be the damsel in distress ALL the time."

"Hmm, retaining dignity in the face of the man you love, is an admirable trait." Joy said with raw sincerity and Luna wondered if it meant more than just a comment to her.

She looked to around and they were standing on a small bridge above a pond with lots of water lilies.

She looked up and saw a familiar blue haired guy sitting on the grass patch next to the pond, writing in his notebook.

Luna remembered how Hyun had approached her at the party when she had fallen instead of his brother's fiancée and felt like she should go talk to him.

"Joy can you wait for a few minutes? I have to go talk to that friend of mine over there."

"Sure. I have a message to type anyway." Joy said and Luna walked off.

Hyun stood up when he heard the sound of her crutches, "Are you okay?" He asked, looking at her foot and hands before she could say 'Hi'.

"Oh yeah, its just a tad bit more severe than usual ankle sprain, the nurse overdid the bandage wrapping."

He nodded slowly at this still looking at it and Luna geared up for what she was about to say,

"Listen, Hyun.." she sighed, "I don't have a boyfriend. I only used Haemin as an excuse to get rid of you because of the things I heard about you but that was very hypocritical of me because I despise it when someone believes rumors and doesn't bother asking me." She let out desperately.

"So, what Im trying to say is.. Im sorry. I should've given you a chance."

Hyun looked at the ground, "Wow." He commented and Luna looked down in shame.

He took a deep breath and looked up, "Yubi must've told you, right? Okay well listen to this,

The first date Yubi and I ever went on was to a shopping mall, her choice, and I paid ofcourse. The second date was at a fund raiser. She insisted on going even though I had already bought us movie tickets. Im not calling your friend a gold digger but she definitely wasn't interested in my first name, or me for that matter."

Luna listened to him with an open mind, devoid of any bias, she dared not do wrong by anyone.

"And you must've heard about me being a player right? And the 14 girls? Yeah, my friends showed me the powerpoint Yubi sent them and to the whole Botany Department. Well, let me tell you, girl number 6 is Hyuck's fiancée and girl number eleven is my youngest aunt."

Luna gaped and made a mental note to check.

"And I'm not saying that I'm not a player, heck I'll admit it but only in the sense that I date any girl that asks me out, I give them a chance because anyone of them could be my soulmate."

Luna raised her eyebrows, did he just say soulmates?

"What if one of them is the one?" He ended earnestly.

"Wow." Luna said, "I didn't know you were such a romantic."

Hyun chuckled lightly and touched his neck, his shyness surfacing, "Yeah, well, Iv come to recognize the need for love quite recently so I take every chance I get to look for it."

Luna made a mental note to ask him about his desperation for love some other time.

"And I wasn't playing with you or trapping you or anything, I genuinely like your company. You're an honest person and so cutely fascinated by everything, I loved hanging out with you"

Oh god Luna what have you done? Did you really do what everyone does to you? Misunderstand him and leave him?

"Okay, but why did you ditch your friends for me like that? It didn't seem right." She laid out all the doubts she had about him and intended on starting anew with him.

Hyun laughed, "What? I didn't ditch them, Luna. Im with them all day, in class, after class, after uni, and most of the time I sleep over at their houses, I don't even go home, and even now Chahyeon has gone to get us lunch and Rowoon has gone to get the juices. I never left them, I just took out some time for my pretty new friend."

Hyun flashed her a dazzling smile and she couldn't help but smile back.

"What are you doing here by the way?" Luna asked.

"Wow I cant believe we haven't talked about which major Im from." They both chuckled, "Im a Botany major, the greenhouse is basically our library."

"Wow." Luna remarked.

"Why?"

"You don't look like a Botany major."

Hyun folded his arms and smiled playfully, "What major do I look like then?"

"Uhh an arts major?"

Hyun's smile dropped for a second and Luna feared that she had said something wrong,

"Interbreeding individuals to produce new crop varieties is also an art." He joked.

Luna laughed out loud and thought about how she missed him.

He was fun and enjoyable company and maybe the only reason Luna had listened to Yubi about him was because Yubi was her only girl friend and she didn't want to lose her.

"Hey Pièrce, lets go!" Joy called her and her eyes widened.

It had been a while since any one had used her surname so casually.

"Coming!" She shouted back.

""Oh yeah, I heard you're a Pièrce, I almost forgot about that." Hyun said, "Very impressive."

"What else did you hear?" She asked nervously.

"The jail stuff and the conviction, you're parents disowning you." He said casually but right after he saw her frown forming he continued,

"I heard all of this from my mother so Im sure the gory detailed rumors were just a courtesy of the gossiping snakes community, so Ill let you explain in detail some other time because right now Joy is waiting for you and trust me, you do not want her angered." Hyun slightly pushed her in Joy's direction.

"Why does everyone keep mentioning her anger?" Luna said.

"There's not just one story, Ill tell you later." Hyun smiled and waved, "I'll call you."

Luna grinned, "Okay."

Joy spoke up as they exited the greenhouse,

"Although we'll officially start tomorrow, there's one thing I think you need to do today."

They stopped walking and faced each other,

"You should go back home. Now, don't take me wrong, I can take care of you for the rest of my life, I can even adopt you! But for our plan, this is necessary."

Luna nodded quickly she was already going to, she didn't like being a burden, "I'll do that but would you mind telling me the reason?"

"Well you see, if Haemin sees you around all the time, and he takes care of you, theres a chance of you completely slipping into the friend zone, or even.. the sister zone." Luna's widened her eyes as Joy's voiced dropped as she said the last part.

"And he may even take you for granted and you'll forever just be there and wont be special to him. So, there should be some distance."

Luna was fascinated by this information and how it all made sense.

She agreed to go home and mentally prepared herself to handle Jihoon and Changmin.
