Chapter 1 - Prologue

Hi, My name is Pixie Roden. If that last name sounds familiar it's because your most likely thinking about the famous tag team pianists named Josh and Lily Roden. If your wondering, yes they are my parents.

My lifelong dream was to become a famous pianist just like them. I started playing piano when I was around 5 years old. After a month I could already play a full song. My parents said I was a natural. When I was 7 years old I could already play Für Elise by Beethoven. In school, when there were recitals, I played songs in them. I continued doing that all the way to middle school. I loved piano and thought I would continue to do it my entire life. But it all changed one tragic day.

I got really sick and was sent to the hospital. My left hand was killing me and I had a high fever. After a few days in the hospital, the doctors finally found out what was causing my sickness. Turns out my left hand was actually going to kill me. My hand had cancer and if it wasn't amputated it would spread to the rest of my body and kill me. There was no time for treatment because of how rapidly it was spreading; the only option was amputation.

My time at the hospital was a living hell. After my hand was amputated, I had to stay in the hospital for another month, always getting scans to make sure the cancer didn't come back. After I was cleared and my arm had healed, I was sent home.

When I finally got home I went straight to the piano, sat on the bench, and cried. My parents tried to calm me down by playing my favorite song Jupiter the Bringer of Jollity from The Planets by Gustav Holst, but that only made me more upset knowing that I couldn't play it anymore. I ran to my room and cried myself to sleep.

I was thankful that it was summer, but that soon came to an end. School was not the same but I got used to it over time. Everyone knew what had happened. Even though I couldn't play piano by myself, my friends and I played together, just like my mom and dad. Life was finally looking up, then another happened and changed my life.
