Chapter 6 - George's version of excitement

Excitement. For some, that means a near death experience, or a 'pretend' near-death experience, such as bungee jumping. For others, there is the excitement of looking forward to something. Or just being excited that you are now in the situation you were anticipating beforehand.

Simply put, there are plenty of ways to feel excited about something. For George, however, well... Let's just say he always had trouble 'feeling'. He forgot the very concept of excitement for a while, which kind of sucked for him. (AN: A while being a few years. Don't worry, I get it now. Kind of. Not really. Meh, how much longer could it possibly take to figure out...)

But for George, he does have a way to feel excited. Or at least, pretend he does. As he always does, he pretends he is enjoying something so as to not upset his family and friends. And today, what is he pretending to enjoy? Airsoft!

"Why did humans make this game where we shoot each other with what is basically an actual bullet, that will injure our body with ease, and cause a large amount of pain?!"

"Because it is fun, and look, die DIE DIE!!!!" Says George's friend, and current teammate.

"See, fun right!? Bunch of people now dead, can you feel the poweR-RUSH?!!?!"

"No, dude, I am incapable of it. Why did I let you drag me into this..."

[Ep + 0.05]

"BECAUSE IT'S FUN, NOW COME ON AND FIRE."

"Fine."

[Ep + 0.04]

BAM! BAM! BANG!!!!

"Yay, I pretend killed a person. No, wait, I missed. Now the tree's hurt. You made me hurt a tree."

[Ep + 0.05]

"YES! Good job George! See, isn't this fun!"

"I suppose so, I mean the idea of hurting another living being goes against a rule of mine, and against my general nature. However, I can see how by hurting another life form, the confidence in a person in themselves can increase to new levels. The power over another life form generally does that."

"I wonder, maybe that's why people like to pet dogs so much? Such an odd species. Humans, I mean."

[Ep + 0.08]

"Alright George, anyway, look, over there, there's a person, quickly duck!"

"Oh, right, wouldn't want to get shot."

"BANG!"

"Hmmm. That was a close one."

Say, system, do you think it would be a good idea to increase my coordination? As I am now playing this game, I might as well win it.

[Host, the system is not sentient. The system cannot decide if that is a good idea or not for the host.]

Yeah yeah, whatever you say system. Anyway, what is my current ability in coordination and such things?

{Coordination: low

Object spotting: high

Movement spotting: medium}

[This is based on the host's memories, as is everything else.]

So basically, I can see it, but not hit it, huh. How much Ep would it take to make my coordination a medium I wonder?

[1723.2 Ep would be required.]

Because it would mean rewiring my nervous system, and rebuilding my general muscle structure, right?

[Host is incorrect. All this would need is simply moving a few nerves to a better location, and removing a useless piece of spinal tissue that is slowing down the connection between the brain and spinal cord. This can be recycled to make another part of the host's brain to be more efficient in hand to eye coordination.]

Right... Oh yeah, I was meaning to ask, but would that hurt? I know the first upgrade I got didn't hurt, but then again, the brain can't feel pain.

[Yes, the host is correct in thinking that this would hurt the host. However, if the host is willing, some Ep can be spent on masking over the pain so that the host does not feel it.]

Sounds like a waste of Ep to me, but then again, I don't like pain. Unlike those webnovel characters, I am not incapable of withstanding my natural instinct and not succumbing to the pain. Well, not easily anyway. I could if I forced myself too, but then I would get mental pain instead, so there isn't much point.

BANG!!

"AHRR, DAMN it that hurts!"

[Ep + 0.9]

And I'm shot. All this time I was running from building to building, and shooting when I could see a glimpse of someone. Of course, also ducking whenever I could, and hiding my body if possible. I failed to hit anyone, however, I did get close.

"GEORGE, NOOO! I will avenge you!!!" Cried out George's over-enthusiastic friend, Fred.

"YES, I WISH YOU THE BEST OF LUCK, COMRADE!!!" Shouted out George's also overly enthusiastic voice, in an attempt to make his friend seem less out of place.

[Ep + 0.3]

Climbing over the foresty, keeping a hold of his sniper, Fred looks through his scope and spots the person that shot George.

"This is for George."

BANG!
