The next day, Kalvin woke up to see Erin eating breakfast with Jasmine. Kalvin quickly sat inbetween them as he also grabbed his serving.
"I thought you had no appetite." Kalvin said casually as he ate his eggs. Erin raised his eyebrows as he turned to Kalvin.
"Yeah I did not want to eat yesterday but today is another day. I gotta atleast store some energy before I head on out." Kalvin nodded.
"Do you want to go to the station before you go? Head chief called this morning. He says that General Morrison wanted to ask you some question." Jasmine said this casually as she ate.
"Nope." Erin said this instantly before gobbling up some sausages. Kalvin and Jasmine looked at each other when Erin heard this. Jasmine turned to Erin with a more serious tone.
"When the General says they want to talk to you....its an order." Erin chuckled a bit.
"Sorry but I am not a part of the government hierarchy. I am just a wanderer and as a wanderer, I would rather not get involved too much with Government officials." Kalvin tilted his head a bit.
"Why not? There is nothing wrong with making a good impression with people in the government. Who knows, maybe one they could come in handy." Kalvin suggested. Erin just shook his head.
"I have seen the way General Morrison looks at me and it is anything but good in my opinion. Anything she wants to ask will just make things worse." Kalvin was about to ask what Erin meant but, he was shushed by Jasmine. The rest of breakfast was very uneventful and soon Erin was putting his shoes and and wearing a new hood for the road.
"Um Erin?" Jasmine said softly as Erin was about to leave.
"Yeah?" Erin answered.
"Before you leave, I just you to answer this, are you a good person? Its just that, I don't want to turn on the news and see your face for some horrid crime and know that I had breakfast with a monster." Erin smiled as heard this.
"Well do you trust me?" Jasmine paused.
"Should I?" Jasmine inquired. Erin just smiled warmly. Jasmine and Kalvin watched as this mysterious man waltz out of their apartment to who knows where.
At the station General Morrison was notified by Headchief gaten that Erin had left the City earlier in the morning. Linda felt frustrated by this news but sadly she already had too much on her hands. If she did not wrap up the whole mess by the end of the week, it will all fall on her.
Back in downtown Mac city, the civilians were going crazy. There was ornaments being hung everywhere and Many people were dressed in black. It was December the 3rd exactly a year since the tragedy struck and half of Mac City was destroyed due to a A ranked dungeon emerging in the center of the City.
Although the ores and materials dug from the dungeon had increased Mac City's economy by a large margin, the lives lost still effected many. Today the civilians of Mac City decided to host a large memorial parade in order to celebrate and mourn the lives lost.
Erin slide through all this chaos. Since he was wearing a black robe and hiding his face, he blended in with the shadows.
Soon, there were back in the rocky forests and Mevern was finally able to pop out of Erin's hood. Erin could only laugh as he saw this.
"Why do you hide from people anyway?"
"Well, we were always taught to always hide from intelligent beings especially the greedy kinds." Erin could only nod at this statement.
"Well your teacher taught you well then. But, why did you not hide from me?"
"Well it is kind of hard to hide from you Erin. Your [Examine] skill somehow see through my transformation. When you first thought that something was wrong, you examined me and found that I was a fairy. Normally people would just identify a tree." Erin just nodded silently as he heard this.
"Well I am a special case. My [Examine] is...much to high for you to compare." Mevern nodded.
"It must be. You are the only one that has seen through me so far.
"And since, I am an outlier, why don't you come up with a more practical disguise?" Mevern tilted her head at this suggestion.
"Practical?" Erin sighed.
"Shapeshift into a human! Its perfect." Mevern eyes suddenly popped as she heard this.
"Yes! A human! A human would never want to steal the red elixir of a human!" Erin blanked for a second when he heard this.
"Uhh, you mean blood?" Mevern nodded happily.
"Ah yes, blood!" Mevern suddenly chanted a phrase as she lowered herself to the ground. Erin watched as Mevern transform in a little 10 year old girl. Once the transformation was done, Mevern looked up to Erin in anticipation.
"What do you think?" Erin just looked down at the little girl.
"Uhh, why so tiny?"
"Well in human years I would be around 10 years old and since I can't change my voice, I thought this would be the best way to hide." Erin agreed to her statement but he had to warn her of one thing.
"When we get to North Grove City, no talking. You may sound like it but talking will make it obvious that you are not a 10 year old child." Mevern's nodded seriously before her serious face could not help but form a smile.
"So we are going to Grove City." Erin smiled slyly at the girl.
"Why do I have a feeling that, that was were you wanted to take me all along." Mevern nodded happily.
"That is the whole reason why you wanted to come back to North America. The first S rank dungeon to ever emerge." Mevern said excitedly.
"Its so exciting!" Erin nodded in agreement.
"Yeah exciting but more importantly, why did it emerge there? There has to be a reason...When the great expansion happened, there was only D ranked dungeons and lower. I thought it was weird seeing how in most video games it goes from A rank to F rank missions etc etc. It did not take long though for me to realize that we were still on easy mode. Only 6 months later, C rank Dungeons started emerging, then B ranked dungeons and now A ranked dungeons.
Everything time a dungeon emerges though, it is due to a high concentration of mana activity. That is why sometimes, Cities with low mana activities like in many government run cities just create a increase mana concentration in a specific area for a period of time in order to artificially create dungeons." Mevern gasped.
"Do you think that is how that A ranked dungeon appeared in the middle of Mac City." Erin could only shrug.
"It would cost them a fortune to do but, the amount of revenue they get from selling A ranked lightning ores and other materials would allow them to gain the money quickly. Honestly It could be natural, it could be artificial. The civilians would not know the difference anyway right?"
"So you think this is also another artificially created dungeon." Erin shook his head.
"That is pretty much impossible. The amount of mana that would need.... No this was not artificially created, that is what got me curious. How much energy must have been in that area to create such a thing?" Mevern felt dizzy thinking about it.
"Wow, you are much more talkative then I thought." Mevern commented as she tried to think about what she heard carefully. Erin could only chuckle.
"Not anymore than you Meve." Mevern was too busy trying to do the number to react. Suddenly, Erin lowered his smile.
"Hey, Meve. How long are you planning to actually travel with me anyway. Don't you have a place to be?" Mevern paused for a bit as she heard this. She finally nodded and explained.
"Well, I just finished my mission and I should be going back to my teacher to get further instructions. Sadly, that is in another plane of existence and to find that would be another arduous journey. I would rather just travel with you till you die before I deal with that." Mevern laughed cutely as she said this which only made Erin speechless. After a few seconds, Erin could only laugh dryly.
"Is my life a joke to you?" Mevern thought for a second and was about to opened her mouth when Erin stopped her.
"You know what, don't answer."
